Chapter 3 - Get me the manager!

"Where are we going?"

That was what Lin Li Zi kept asking when we went into town, but I didn't respond since…I had no idea where we were going either.

I did say that we were getting breakfast, but I really didn't know any good stores since there weren't any memories about restaurants in my head.

The original owner and Lin Li Zi had been orphans after all, so it wasn't as if they had been eating at restaurants all day.

After arriving in town, I turned to Lin Li Zi to say, "Where does our Li Zi want to eat? You can pick any store you want."

The look on her face made it clear that she didn't want to pick a store at all, but Lin Li Zi was a smart girl. She could see that even if she didn't pick a store, her brother would have chosen one.

In that case, she should pick something inexpensive to curb her brother's spending.

In a cute voice, Lin Li Zi said, "Big brother, Li Zi wants some mantous. It's been a long time since Li Zi has had some."

I revealed a faint smile when I heard this.

I wasn't a fool, so I knew what she was doing, but was there a big brother in this world that needed his little sister to care when he was spending money on her?

Besides, I needed to spend the big money to finish my first quest from the system.

The first quest was to spend at least a thousand taels of silver in a single day. It had to be spent in a manner that was befitting of a prodigal, so I just couldn't use it to buy things that I wanted.

However, the way of the prodigal was my life, so of course I had no problem doing that.

After hearing her say this, I looked around until I found a restaurant. Pointing at that restaurant, I said, "How about there then? That place should serve mantous."

When Lin Li Zi followed his finger, she saw the restaurant that he was referring to.

She couldn't help revealing an ugly look when she saw this before quickly saying in a cute voice, "Big brother, Li Zi wants the mantou that Uncle Wang makes at his stall. There's no need to go to that restaurant."

But I wouldn't take any of this as I said, "Nonsense, you're a growing young lady, you need your nutrients. Come, don't be picky. We're going in for breakfast."

Lin Li Zi had a look on her face that seemed like she was about to break down.

This should be the first time that I had someone this resistant to me treating them to a meal…but how else was I supposed to complete my quest?

So I had no choice but to pull her in by taking her hand.

When we came in, the first reaction that we received was…

Disdain.

The first gaze that the waiter cast at us was a look of disdain, but he still came over and said, "Is it just the two of you? You can take a seat at a free table."

I just simply gave a nod and looked around for one before pulling the girl who still had an unwilling look on her face to a table in the corner.

The waiter came over and dropped two menus on the table without even saying a thing to us. It seemed that they didn't care about us since they didn't think that we would have any money in the first place.

I just ignored them before picking up the menu and saying, "Li Zi, what do you want to eat other than mantou? You can't just eat mantous, you need a balanced diet or else you won't grow."

Lin Li Zi shook her head as she said, "Mantous are good, mantous are enough."

I couldn't help shaking my head before saying with a sigh, "This little girl…When your brother is treating you to a meal, you should just eat happily."

Lin Li Zi lowered her head a bit and she didn't say anything in response.

When I saw her like this, I reached out and patted her on the head to say, "Just enjoy the meal and don't worry about money. Your big brother will take care of it, alright?"

Though she still had a worried look, she slowly looked up and gave a nod before picking up a menu as well.

Seeing her like this, I shook my head again before opening up the menu.

The moment that I saw what was written in the menu, I couldn't help knitting my brows.

Lin Li Zi saw the look on my face and said, "Big brother, how about we leave now? As long as we leave now, we won't be in any trouble."

I shook my head with a faint smile and patted her on the head before saying, "What trouble? Why would we be in trouble?"

Before Lin Li Zi could reply, I raised my hand to get the attention of the waiter.

The waiter gave me a look of disdain, but he still came over to say, "What? What do you want?"

There wasn't a single trace of respect in his voice as he said this.

I narrowed my eyes to look at him before saying, "Are the prices on your menu correct?"

As soon as he heard this, the waiter suddenly revealed a smile of disdain as he said, "That's right, those are our prices. If you don't like them, then you can scram right now."

I shook my head and said with a sigh, "I want to speak to the manager. I don't want to bother with a little waiter like you."

The waiter was caught off guard by the tone of voice that I had before his face turned red.

It was clear that he was losing his patience with me, but I just didn't care at all as I raised my voice and said, "I said that I wanted to see the manager."

At this, the others turned to look over in our direction which made the waiter calm down.

It was fine to take care of some beggars, but to cause a commotion and hurt business…he would lose his job if that happened.

So after glaring at me for a few seconds, the waiter said, "I'll go and get our manager right now."

A moment later, there was a middle aged man with a handlebar moustache that came out. As he walked over, he casually stroked his moustache and looked at me with narrowed eyes, as if he was sizing me up.

However, there was the same look of disdain that was in his eyes.

After coming over, he asked me, "You are the one that was asking for a manager?"

I gave a nod before saying, "That's right. I wanted to ask about your prices. Are the prices on the menu correct?"

The manager's look of disdain became even stronger, but he still spoke in a respectful voice since he could tell that everyone was looking over now, "Yes, those are our prices. If they are too expensive…"

Before he could finish, I cut him off by saying, "Expensive? Who says that they are too expensive? I wanted to say that these prices are too cheap!"

There was only silence that followed after I said this.
