Chapter 16 - Absolute Demonic Font

The figure, known as Enkidu, made a vivid entrance by confidently stating his name to Fujimaru and Mash, piquing their curiosity with a cryptic message about understanding the purpose behind their visit—a mention of "the tainted Holy Grail." With an air of mystique enveloping his presence, the stranger hinted at his affiliation with the esteemed King and made it known that he was dispatched on a mission by Gilgamesh himself to escort the duo to the legendary city of Uruk. Throughout their journey, his guidance was quietly assured, almost as if he had an invisible tether to the land, showing them the physical and emotional scars that marred the once-thriving region and shedding light on the sombre truths that lay buried beneath the desolation. Each step forward revealed more fragments of the sorrowful tale that led to the land's ruin, weaving a tapestry of betrayal, loss, and yearning for redemption.

As they pressed on, making their way through the rugged terrain, he shared with Fujimaru and Mash the harrowing truth behind the extensive destruction they witnessed, stating, "It was the handiwork of the three goddess alliance, who had allied themselves in a bid to wreak havoc upon the land." With each step they took towards their ultimate destination, the tension in the air thickened as they stumbled upon a formidable fortress looming in the distance. The once-imposing structure now bore the scars of a recent onslaught, its sturdy walls battered by a relentless horde of demon beasts that had descended upon it in a frenzied attack.

But just as the situation seemed dire, a ray of hope emerged in the form of the fortress's valiant general, a seasoned warrior who had single-handedly led his troops in repelling wave after wave of the savage creatures for the past six gruelling months. His unwavering determination and strategic prowess kept the Demonic Beasts at bay, preventing them from breaching the fortress's defences and wreaking further havoc upon the already war-torn land. As our intrepid group stood witness to this awe-inspiring display of heroism, they couldn't help but feel a renewed sense of courage and admiration for the general and his loyal soldiers, who stood as the last line of defence against the encroaching darkness threatening to engulf their world.

As Fujimaru and Mash strolled beside the enigmatic figure, Mash's observant eyes noted a peculiar deviation in their path while saying, "Please correct me if I am wrong, but it seems we are going further away from Uruk'' Expressing her concern. only to be reassured by the mysterious man, as he explained, "There should be a boat up ahead, and once we get there, we can take the boat using the stream that leads directly to Uruk." Unexpectedly, amidst the dense foliage of the surrounding woods, they came face-to-face with an unexpected encounter: a mage and a formidable warrior. The mage walked out of the shadowy woods, stating, "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you," while walking towards them. Eager to establish a connection, Fujimaru and Mash cordially introduced themselves to the mage, relaying their recent encounter with Enkidu and their valiant rescue efforts. However, to their astonishment, the mage's countenance darkened as they mentioned Enkidu's name. Upon learning of the news, the mage's suspicions were immediately aroused, sensing a discrepancy in their account due to having prior knowledge of Enkidu's unfortunate demise.

The mysterious man who claimed to be Enkidu lurked menacingly in the shadows, his eyes gleaming with malice as he plotted his assault on Fujimaru. However, his dark intentions were swiftly thwarted by the potent protective barrier conjured by the skilled mage, rendering his attack futile. With malevolent laughter in his tone, he stated, "Fujimaru, incompetent fools of Chaldea. I was so close; if we'd gone further, I would have gotten to see something very fun. It's useless to try and flee; you all are already doomed." while walking towards Fujimaru, then, in a dramatic unveiling, the mysterious man revealed his true identity as Kingu, son of the ancient goddess of creation Tiamat, who had cunningly taken possession of the lifeless body of Enkidu. With a chilling declaration, Kingu proclaimed his malevolent intentions, sending shivers down the spines of all who stood witness to his dark presence.

He prepared himself to unleash another devastating blow on Fujimaru. The mage, with a commanding voice, urged his companion, Anna, to join forces with them in combat. Together, they glared resolutely at the sinister foe, their combined resolve ready to meet the impending challenge head-on. Seizing his moment, Kingu unleashed a torrent of shimmering golden chains that lashed out towards his valiant adversaries, seeking to ensnare and overcome them with his glittering malevolence. Yet, in a dazzling display of cunning and skill, the resourceful mage deftly employed illusions to mislead Kingu, leading him to believe his foes were within his grasp when they had already slipped away, evading his wrathful grasp in a daring escape. Defeated but not vanquished, Kingu, in a reluctant acknowledgment of his setback, retreated into the depths of the enigmatic woods. As the party continued their journey towards the grand city of Uruk, the wise mage introduced himself with a mysterious aura, identifying himself by saying, "I am Merlin; the girl who aided you is Anna; we are actually servants."

In a solemn tone, Merlin enlightened them about the formidable adversary they faced in the form of Kingu, emphasising the being's nigh unbeatable nature due to inhabiting a body meticulously crafted by the divine hands of the gods themselves. This intricate vessel bestowed Kingu with an unparalleled power, known as the Chain of the Heavens, interwoven with ancient forces beyond mortal comprehension.
