Chapter 77 - Just call him

"Stella's point of view,"

"Stella, you need to look into this immediately." Avery put the news on the international financial market in front of me as I was working on my laptop.

"Oh no, this is a big story." I grabbed the tab out of her grasp and read the entire news report.

"Oh crap, I knew this was going to happen." As the call flashed on my phone's screen, I muttered.

"Then what will happen?" She was looking at me with a curious and perplexed expression in her eyes.

"I don't know, Avery; let me take this call first." I said this while holding up my phone.

"What did they say, exactly?"

"They have scheduled an emergency meeting to address the issue as quickly as possible, and I must go."

"What? But where? After all, in which American city is this meeting being held?" Her voice was distinctly apprehensive and shocked.

"Avery, the meeting has taken place in China, not the United States."

"What?

So, you're visiting China? When will you be back?

How are you going to travel there by yourself?"

"Relax, I'm not some young child who will be abducted if I leave the house alone, Avery."

I don't know what's causing her to be so anxious.

"I'll accompany you as well." As she rose from the couch, she said,

"Avery, I'm sorry, but you can't go with me."

"I am your assistant; why can't I accompany you?" She asked me while placing her hand on her waist.

"I'm going there as the financial head of Global Markets, not as a business person; therefore, I won't require a personal assistant to manage financial advice." I gave her an explanation of why I wasn't accompanying her there.

"Okay, I get the problem, but as your friend, I'm willing to travel to China with you and promise not to interfere with your work." In front of my face, she flashes her adorable puppy eyes.

"We can certainly accomplish that, but who will manage Parker Industries without me?" I asked, arching my brows.

"What? When you're not here, you want me to run Parker Industries." In shock, she widened her eyes.

"Yes, of course, you understand perfectly; I want the same thing." Seeing her astonished face made me giggle.

"But I'm incapable of doing it since I lack your level of business acumen."

"Do not undervalue yourself so much, P.A. Darling. Parker Industries will be in better hands with you than with me, I'm sure." I put my hand on her shoulder and attempted to encourage her.

"But I also wanted to accompany you to China." She muttered while pouting.

"Oh well, the real reason is that." I put my hand on her shoulder.

She answered in a quiet voice, "Hmm."

"Ok, so let's do this: you handle the crucial meetings and projects here, and I'll call you to China as soon as I finish my work so we can have a great time together."

"Yes, it's a fantastic idea, but Stella, you still haven't told Mr. Woods." She posed a fresh query to me once more.

Ethan and I haven't spoken in over a week. I have had little time to talk to him because I've been so busy with work since I returned from California, and I don't want to bother him either. Or should I say I don't want to.

Why endure the formality of daily phone calls with him when there is just one contract between us?

"Please, Avery, call his PA and inform him I will leave the country for a short period without giving him any other details about me."

"Okay, but I believe you ought to make your call to Mr. Woods." As she placed my luggage in the car's trunk, she said,

"You're probably right, but I'm not sure how he'll feel about learning such a significant fact about me. He still doesn't know that I work as a financial counselor for the global stock market."

"You ought to now tell him the truth." She cranked the car's engine and said,

"Okay, I'll try." I saw Ethan Woods' phone number flashing on the phone screen and wasn't sure if I should call him or not.

Perhaps he is preoccupied with his girlfriend when I call and don't pick up.

Why are you holding onto this option without even calling him? You should call him first to confirm anything before making any judgments. My subconscious compelled me to call him. I called him after listening to my subconscious, but what I had been fearing happened: he did not answer. Now I can say with confidence that he will undoubtedly spend tonight with his girlfriend.

Should I call him again and disturb him?

No, I don't believe that would be a good idea.

However, you can't keep such big news from him; he has every right to know that you won't be in the country for a few days. I tried to contact him again after paying attention to my subconscious, but Mr. Chang's call had already been shown on my phone's screen.

After Mr. Chang and I had spoken for a while. It was time for me to board my flight, so I had to turn off my phone. To call Ethan, I simply didn't have the time. When I was on the phone with Mr. Chang, about a new project, he called me multiple times.

I could not attend Ethan's call because I disconnected Mr. Chang's call midway.

For us to have an in-depth conversation regarding the new project, Mr. Chang requests we meet while I'm in China.

Does Ethan miss me?

He must spend all of his time with his girlfriend, so I doubt he would miss me in the least.

Would he continue to play N.F.'s Most Wanted? I want to completely erase his memories from my mind because I don't want to think about him any longer.

My current focus is on my work, and if I even slightly let my attention wander, it will harm both my profession and my business. I need to get off the plane and go directly to the Global Share Market headquarters.

I take a little nap during the flight to refresh my brain because I know that the next few days will be extremely busy for me. I closed my eyes and slept soundly.
