The moonlight shimmered in the raven's silver eyes, an eerie contrast to its shadowy feathers.
There was a small note tied around with a crimson thread at its feet. Silence stretched all around them as Alyssane cautiously watched the raven and it stared straight into her soul.
'They remind me of mine.'
She slowly reached towards the tiny scroll with cold fingers and untied it as the raven feathers fluttered and the creature flew away as soon as the thread came undone.
Something fell when she opened the note.
