It took a while to stop crying. Even longer to get the nerve to let my mom go. Mom looked good like this. She was always a strong woman. "Lora, how did you get here?" Mom asked, looking at Dawn.
"That's Dawn. He was a regular horse, but changed into a magical beast. I wrote a letter to you about him, but the school hadn't been sending them." I explained it wasn't the best excuse.
But mom seemed to relax about that. "That's good. I wanted to write to you to stay there. About everything happening outside the academy. But didn't want to risk them finding you."
"Well, how about we eat something and chat?" Mom said, leading me to a tent. She wasn't living int he temporary homes I had seen but a large tent. There she got to work cooking. Watching her, I couldn't help but feel bad. Would she be here if I hadn't been a witch? My father build their home when they got married. Mom picked out her own kitchen. But now she was making things over a small fire pit.
