Chapter 22 - A week away

Alright now, today here I was laying lazily on my bed on a Saturday morning.

Alone.

Kiki wasn't coming over today nor would I be going over to her place since a funeral came up in her family.

And Miles?

I had still not heard from him. Maybe all I needed to do today was do things that would certainly keep me busy from worrying about Mr. Sassy.

Getting out of bed after three hours of waking up accompanied by a short prayer, I took a shower and slipped my self into comfy clothing before I ate a breakfast of cereal.

Mum and Richard weren't home - I mean, that was worth celebrating.

It was only Miriam and I in this big house.

Poor Miriam. I saw her mopping the floors of the house and I felt a tinge of guilt inside of me. I know it's her job but I wasn't that kind of spoilt child, you know.

"Abeg Miriam make I mop this side. You do the other side," I told her.

At first she was hesitant but later gave up to my insistent being.

Making sure I had my headphones on, I delved into taking the mop across the floor, polishing the tiles with grace.

As I mopped the floor, I sang my heart out and danced to the melodious burst of tunes that filled my ears.

Kissin' and hope they caught us

Whether they like or not

I wanna you show you off, I wanna show you off

"Ehhh," I hyped myself as I twisted my hips to the song.

Twin, where have you been?

Nobody knows me like you do

Nobody gon' love me quite like you

Can't even deny it

Everytime I try it, one look in my eyes you know I'm lying, lying

And with the last song...

Soco

Sufrey with this body, make we run am on a low-keey

Baby you know me, e get as you dey move wey I nor go gree

Come make I drive your mh

Come make I drive this your Jalopy...

I finished my work on time then retired to the living room to continue listening to music.

I was dancing and exploring the melodies of my own little world when one mugu, one idiot came from nowhere.

Even the volume of my headphones were incomparable with the pitch of her voice.

And yes, Sharon was at home too. I didn't mention her at first because I felt like I didn't need to - At least, you should know by now that I don't see her as human.

At the end of the day, I had to take my headphones off my ears and placed them around my neck.

"So guys, I don't really like wearing simple outfits that usually don't give me the vibe I want them to," Sharon pouted her lips as she held her phone with a selfie stick.

Obviously, she was on tiktok live as usual.

"Would you wear Nike shoes over Puma shoes?" She squinted her eyes as she read the new comment.

"Nike shoes, of course. They're my faves and a classic at that, pulease," She rolled her eyes and placed so much emphasis on ' Please ', making it sound the way it did.

All the while she pretended like she couldn't see me nor the glare on my face.

"You should be a model! Oh my god, you're so pretty!" She read another comment deliberately louder than the first. I knew she wanted me to hear that.

"Aww thank you so much," She squealed in response and blew a kiss.

God knows that I couldn't take it anymore. I was not going to leave the living room just because she was here. Besides, her father wasn't the owner of the house.

"Shey room don finish for this house abi?" I barked at her.

I have a right to speech and space yet this girl was intentionally getting me pissed off and still, mum would support her in everything.

"Excuse me?" She turned her head in my direction, pretending an accent she felt was American.

"You heard me the first time," I bluntly replied without batting a lid.

"Oh my goodness," She returned her gaze to the camera. "Is this the type of house helps that are now sold in the slave market? They don't know their boundaries anymore, I can't believe this."

While saying this, she made sure the camera captured me from the best angles.

And then stupid comments started flooding in and as she read them, I knew that her fans were equally as stupid as she was.

"As in, there's one like that my grandma hired."

"For real girl, I don't know where they see this kind of girls from."

"See how rude she is."

Unbelievable!

Contradicting myself once again, I left the living room for my room. I didn't have the strength to fight and the best to do was to go to my room.

Nonetheless, I could hear Sharon laughing and mocking me once she was done with her live.

*.*.*.

Seconds passed away.

Seconds turned into minutes. Minutes turned to hours and hours into days. Days into a week of school and another Saturday came.

Miles was nowhere to be found.

What if his mum was in a critical condition considering the fact that he said she was suffering from a brain tumour? He didn't owe me any explanation but I was starting to get even more worried than I was last week.

I sent him a text but to no avail. I called his number several times but there was no response to any action I took.

Jobless as always on a Saturday and Mum and Richard not being at home as usual, I made my way to the living room to settle.

Sharon was there already but we simply ignored each other. The days we talked, we fought and the days we didn't fight, we didn't talk.

Just then, the doorbell rang and Sharon's eyes met with mine. None of us were willing to stand up.

I was the older one even though it was only by a year, and she always expected me to do stuff that she didn't want to.

As always, I ended up getting the door.

"Yes?" I lazily moved my eyes to look at the face of the human at the door.

"Hi," A smile flashed across his face and my eyes widened.

"Miles!"

I didn't know when I threw my arms around him for a hug.

Please trust me on this one, it was the work of my inner man and not me.
