After all the mouth he had made, the "newbie" finally left our class.
Probably because he feared that Emeka could have been to a cultist due to his gigantic statute.
It was after some minutes that he left that Tobi and our class teacher walked in.
"Good morning sir," We all stood at attention to greet. Everyone made sure to stop their activities as well.
"Good morning," Our teacher replied.
"Science students, you know that new teacher in the school. He came to report you people to me. You guys should take it easy on him for now and simply obey him. He will adjust to the system later."
"Yes sir," We agreed without hesitation.
Our class teacher, Mr. Segun, was a lively handsome young man and many of us admired and respected him. He was not a kind of teacher that commanded respect by tying billions of canes with him everywhere he went.
He related with us as if we were his younger siblings. He was the only one who could control the carefree behaviour of our class and that of SS3.
In almost every Nigerian school like ours, the SS2 and SS3 classes were pretty much free from most laws that applied to the juniors.
Even SS1 were not given as much freedom as the other senior classes.
"Chairman na because of you o," Emeka's deep voice rang throughout the class.
"You do well," Mr. Segun smiled. "You guys should behave well for my sake. No more noise please. Your next teacher will be coming in soon."
"In the meantime, Tilda follow Tobi to the library. He'll instruct you on what I asked you two to do," He added.
I had long lifted my head from the table so I slowly nodded. Looking confused and lost, I managed to mutter a "yes sir."
I moved out of my seat and immediately followed Tobi while our class teacher went back to the staff room.
The school library was another building seperated from the main building for classes. It was a rather huge building that stood beside our block.
"Hi, I haven't really got to talk to you today," Tobi took the honour to start a conversation I didn't want to.
When did he start talking to me everyday?
"Yeah..." My voice trailed off after which I replied with a "hi" as well.
"So what exactly are we going to do at the library?" I quickly asked in order to prevent the usual tension in the air between us.
"Oh yes, Mr. Segun wants us to grab some chemistry textbooks for him," He answered after facepalming himself.
"Oh ok. Like how many textbooks?" I further questioned.
I was ready to do whatever it was in my power to sway Tobi from hinting at his feelings towards me. There was no way I was going to let that happen.
Besides, why couldn't he get the books by himself?
Even if they were too many for him to carry, why did Mr. Segun pick me of every one in the class?
"The chemistry textbooks in the locker at the corner of the library."
"Ah ok..."
My mind instantly went blank. I was trying to come up with more questions but then, the speed of my brain had suddenly become slow and Tobi ended up saying something before me.
"You look really pretty with this hairstyle," He remarked, his eyes moving through my face for a short while.
I had my hair braided and decided to wrap it into two neat buns for school today.
"Thank you," I forced a smile.
Soon, we reached the library building.
The library was an imposing structure, its high ceilings and massive windows filling the space with light. The bookshelves were endless, stretching from floor to ceiling, and each shelf was filled with books of every colour and size. The scent of paper and leather was everywhere, and the floor beneath my feet was polished to a high shine. The quiet sound of pages turning filled the room, punctuated by the occasional hushed whispers of the library patrons. It was a place of infinite knowledge and infinite possibilities.
It was a typical library that could be found in british movies.
Many of our facilities were almost similar or similar to ones that you could find in british movies. Perhaps the founder of Nexus Academy was a hard core fan of english movies.
The locker that stored chemistry textbooks was at a corner and Tobi and I didn't waste time in doing what we were told to.
Since the library was empty, it made things easier to do except that it gave room for Tobi to continue a conversation.
"I plan to see a movie this weekend and I was...um... wondering if you would like to join?" He asked and not for once did he gaze at me from the books he was moving out of the locker.
"I'm sorry, Tobi but I have other plans for the weekend," I answered with hesitation.
A small sigh escaped his lips.
"It's fine," A smile broke out on his lips. "Perhaps some other time we can both go see a movie together or just simply go out and have fun?"
I swallowed hard.
"Mmm," was all I could say.
Thankfully, the awkward moment came to an end as soon we returned to class after handing the books over to Mr. Segun.
By the time we got to class, our geography teacher was already present.
"Tobi is so fine," Kiki sighed as soon as I took my seat next to her.
"Focus Kiki," I rolled my eyes and took out my geography note from my bag.
"Those lips...that well chiseled body... Everything about him is just so perfect," Kiki sighed once again.
"Please," I chuckled lightly. "Let's keep it down before the teacher catches us."
KiKi did keep quiet but it happened that the rest of the day was dedicated to fantasizing over her crush.
