Lu Yu took immediate action, showing no signs of hesitation. His sword, which had evolved into a bronze-level weapon, was sharper than ever before. It was so sharp that it could easily slice through a person's throat, or even sever their head.
The woman he was dealing with was named Zhou Lan.
She belonged to a family whose six-storey building was slated for demolition by the government. The elderly couple didn't work much and relied on their pensions and rent collection for their livelihood.
However, they lived in Yancheng, a third-tier city, and their house was located in a remote area, making it difficult to rent out. To supplement their income, they often found reasons to deduct from the tenant's deposit. Damaged walls, broken light bulbs, and cracked floor tiles were all reasons for them to withhold the deposit.
The deposit was usually not much, just a few hundred Yuan, but they took advantage of this situation, leaving the tenants helpless.
On this particular day, Zhou Lan went to the supermarket with her friends to buy groceries. As she was walking downstairs of the Rhine Hotel, she was startled by the sudden appearance of thick fog, followed by a cosmic storm and a monster invasion.
She, along with others, sought refuge in the hotel. Initially, everything was fine. But as time passed and a monster managed to enter the hotel lobby, they were forced to run upstairs. Eventually, they found a safe place in a guest room on the top floor, only to be kicked out.
Zhou Lan couldn't understand why they were being asked to leave. The outside was dangerous, and the room was safe.
Why were they being forced out?
She felt that the younger generation lacked respect for their elders. How dare they threaten her with a knife?
Did they think she was scared?
She reminded herself that they were still living in a lawful society and that her son was a powerful figure. But then, she suddenly fell silent. She noticed the bright red liquid on her hand and felt dizzy. Then, she heard another woman scream.
Zhou Lan looked at Lu Yu in disbelief.
Did he really dare to kill?
She couldn't believe what she was seeing, but her vision was getting blurry. She collapsed on the sofa, and everything went dark. The bright red liquid continued to flow from her neck, draining her of her remaining body heat.
Lu Yu coldly looked at the screaming woman and told her to shut up. Terrified by his icy voice, the woman quickly left Lu Yu's room as if she was running for her life. After she left, a frightened voice echoed in the corridor outside. But no one opened their doors to check on her. They had heard similar sounds too many times while running up to the 8th floor.
Back in the room, Yan Yun was terrified. She covered her mouth and looked at Lu Yu fearfully. She couldn't understand why Lu Yu dared to kill. Wasn't he just an ordinary rich second-generation before this?
Shi Lei was also stunned. He thought of Lu Yu as just a rich second-generation who liked to show off at school. Even if he had let himself kill Chen Fei before, he just felt that the other party was not strong willed. That's the reason he didn't dare to kill himself.
But now, Lu Yu had killed someone. Xue Li and Ding Feng were the most surprised. They had worked in the Lu family for a long time and knew Lu Yu well. They knew that even they wouldn't be able to kill so decisively, let alone Lu Yu. But Lu Yu didn't hesitate. He was really ruthless.
But at this time, they didn't have time to think about it. They quickly followed Lu Yu's instructions and acted. Before the end of the world, dealing with corpses was very troublesome, and murder was punishable by law.
But after the end of the world, it was enough to just throw the corpse on the street outside. In a minute, Zhou Lan's body was thrown downstairs, becoming food for the monsters. The blood on the sofa was cleaned up by Xue Li and the others.
Xue Li and Ding Feng took Shi Lei back to his room. Lu Yu and Yan Yun were left in the room. Yan Yun sat on the bed, not daring to make a sound. Lu Yu sat on the newly replaced sofa. He leaned back against the sofa, looked up at the ceiling, and let out a sigh of relief. He wondered if this was what it felt like to kill.
Killing two people in a row made him feel a little uncomfortable. But he was not a bad person, nor did he desire to die. But if the other party didn't listen to his persuasion, Lu Yu didn't want to waste time talking nonsense with her.
After calming down, Lu Yu turned his gaze to Yan Yun, who was so frightened that her face was pale and her hands and feet were shaking.
He asked her if she was afraid of him. Yan Yun panicked and hesitated, not knowing how to answer.
A fleeting glance at the blood-soaked T-shirt of Lu Yu sent a wave of terror coursing through her. She was acutely aware that merely an hour ago, she was a model citizen, a radiant university belle basking in the sunlight, a pampered princess.
Lu Yu, on the other hand, was nothing more than a frivolous rich kid, a typical second-generation wealthy youth who spent his school days in hedonistic pursuits, shunning any form of serious work. Yet, in a shocking turn of events, this same rich kid had just committed a murder right before her eyes.
Could he really have done it?
The image of Zhou Lan's blood gushing out as she lay dying was etched in her mind, causing Yan Yun's stomach to revolt. She hastily clamped a hand over her mouth and sprinted towards the nearby trash can. When Lu Yu left to clean the hallway, she was left alone, her fear magnified.
The sight of the chaos unfolding on the street outside the window had already caused her to vomit multiple times. But witnessing Zhou Lan's death up close was a visceral experience that no ordinary person could stomach. However, having skipped breakfast this morning, there was little left in her to bring up.
Just as she was on the verge of retching, the faint sound of Lu Yu's voice reached her ears.
"Are you aware that her demise was a consequence of your actions?"
"Perish due to my actions?
How… how could that be conceivable?"
Yan Yun, while delicately dabbing the edge of her mouth with a nearby tissue, heard these words.
She raised her gaze to meet Lu Yu's, her expression painted with a profound sense of disbelief.
What was this man babbling about?
Lu Yu, with an air of calm, explained his perspective - had she heeded his words and not allowed them entry, Zhou Lan would still be alive. Yan Yun vehemently disagreed with Lu Yu's viewpoint. She believed that if they had not let them in, they would have fallen prey to the monsters.
Lu Yu chuckled, remarking that it appeared Yan Yun had yet to grasp the gravity of their current predicament. He set aside the sword he had gathered, rose from his seat, and strolled over to the window.
He beckoned her over, urging her to take a look outside. He informed her that the world outside was in turmoil, and no savior would come to their rescue. Survival, he emphasized, was a matter of self-reliance. He then posed another question to her
what did she think would have been the outcome if he had been pursued by monsters and she had failed to open the door for him in time?
