When Kaito arrived at the city gate, Yūrei was no longer there.
Only a few small demons huddled together, crying miserably.
They kept muttering, "So scary, so scary, so scary..."
"What happened?" Kaito walked over and asked, "Where's Yūrei?"
"Eek!!!"
Hearing Yūrei's name, the little demons immediately shuddered and trembled all over.
"Gurē, what's going on?" Kaito, with sharp eyes, spotted Gurē hiding at the back and pulled him out.
"Pfft! Hahaha..."
He looked at Gurē's bald head in amazement, clutching his stomach and laughing uncontrollably.
"Hahaha... You've turned into a vulture..."
Gurē quickly covered his head with his hands, looking at Kaito with a resentful expression.
After finally stopping his laughter, Kaito asked again, "What happened? Did you guys get into a fight?"
Gurē was stunned and didn't speak, still haunted by Yūrei's terrifying face shrouded in black energy.
The devil's whispers still echoed in his ears.
"Don't tell Kaito, or I'll pluck all your feathers!"
He shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts.
"Not a fight? Then who bullied you?" Kaito asked urgently, seeing Gurē shake his head.
Gurē quickly nodded.
"Someone really bullied you?" Kaito frowned.
"No... no one!" Gurē quickly denied, "Who would dare bully me, hahaha..."
"Alright then."
Kaito felt that Gurē was acting strange, but didn't delve further because he had more important things to do.
"Do you know where Yūrei went?"
"No... no idea!!!" Gurē shook his head frantically.
"Okay." Kaito turned around. "I'll go check her house."
Yūrei's residence was near the forest where Mao lived, amidst a lush sea of flowers.
Kaito stood outside the dense flower field, watching the fluttering butterflies.
"Lady Yūrei, are you there?" He called out, but there was no response.
Not here? He turned to leave and search elsewhere, but stopped.
"Yūrei is very angry," Chiri seemed to have said that.
Since she's angry, she might not want to talk.
Kaito turned back, tapped his toes, and leaped into the air.
He spread his arms, his wide sleeves billowing, lightly flying over the sea of flowers, landing in front of a small building in the center.
"Lady Yūrei, are you there?"
Kaito gently knocked on the door but got no response.
"I'm coming in."
He pushed open the door and walked in, scanning the first floor without seeing anyone.
This was a house without stairs.
He stepped outside, looked up, then jumped up to the second-floor terrace.
"Lady Yūrei?"
Kaito pushed open the door to the second floor, peering inside, and saw a figure sitting with her back to the door.
"Lady Yūrei." Kaito removed his wooden sandals and walked barefoot into the room, approaching Yūrei from behind.
"I'm sorry." He bowed apologetically.
Yūrei remained motionless.
Kaito sat down and pushed her back gently.
Yūrei's clothes immediately collapsed, and countless butterflies flew out, their shimmering powder obscuring his vision.
Kaito quickly covered his eyes with his sleeve.
When the butterflies flew away, he lowered his sleeve, finding only Yūrei's clothes lightly falling to the floor.
"Lady Yūrei."
Kaito sensed for a moment, then leaped out of the open window, stepping on the terrace railing and flipping onto the roof.
He silently crossed the tiles, climbed over the roof ridge, and saw a colorful figure from behind again.
"Lady Yūrei, so you were here. I'm here to apologize."
Kaito approached Yūrei and gently pulled her sleeve.
The sound of wings flapping filled the air. Butterflies once again obscured his vision, and Kaito quickly covered his eyes.
A few seconds later, he was left holding only a light piece of clothing.
"Is this a game of hide-and-seek, Lady Yūrei?" Kaito called out loudly, a playful smile on his face. "If that's the case, I play along with you!"
Jumping down from the roof, Kaito returned to the second-floor terrace.
Entering the room, he threw the clothes in his hand next to the other ones on the floor, then walked across the room and opened the sliding door.
"Got you!"
Kaito dashed forward, once again appearing behind Yūrei and patting her shoulder.
"Huh?" He blinked. "Why didn't you transform this time?"
"Although I always knew you were a big idiot, I couldn't help but get annoyed with you."
Yūrei turned her head, looking at Kaito with a cold gaze.
"Wh-what's wrong?" Kaito laughed awkwardly. "So it wasn't hide-and-seek after all."
"Never mind." Yūrei's tone was somewhat resigned as she pointed to the cushion on the tatami mat in front of her. "Sit down."
"Okay." Kaito circled around her and sat down facing her.
"Actually, you has no idea why I'm angry, right?" Yūrei lowered her eyes, her long lashes trembling slightly.
"Sorry." Kaito bowed his head in apology.
"No need." Yūrei stroked Kaito's hair. "If you don't know the reason, there's no point in apologizing."
"Although I don't know why you're angry," Kaito held Yūrei's hand and looked up at her, "I know I made you angry, so I want to apologize."
"Pfft." Yūrei covered her mouth and chuckled.
"It's also fine like this." She leaned over slowly, caressing his face. "That's also part of Kaito's charm."
Kaito watched as Yūrei's face got closer and couldn't help but say, "Lady Yūrei, you're cute too."
A pink blush spread across Yūrei's cheeks, but her eyes remained cool.
"It's the first time you has sincerely complimented me."
"How could that be? I compliment you all the time," Kaito said, slightly blushing as well, trying to look away but unable to break free from Yūrei's gaze.
"Hmph, those were just empty compliments, weren't they?"
Yūrei withdrew her hand from his face and sat back, her gaze softening as she looked down.
Kaito felt a slight sense of loss but didn't know why. He simply held Yūrei's hand tightly, unsure of what to say.
A fragrant breeze blew in from the window, making their long hair flutter, with a few strands intertwining in the air.
Kaito cautiously asked, "Lady Yūrei, are you not angry anymore?"
"I haven't been angry for a while." Yūrei leaned forward, resting on his chest. "I should have gotten used to it by now."
She rubbed her face against his chest, feeling the warmth through his clothes, her cheeks quietly blushing.
"Since I already know what you were like, I've been mentally prepared. Otherwise, I'd have been driven crazy long ago."
Kaito felt like he couldn't respond, so he remained silent, gently stroking her long hair.
