Chereads / The Rise of the Blood Mosquito / Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: First Flight

Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: First Flight

The sky was pitch black, and in the vast expanse of land, only the rhythmic chirping of crickets and birds echoed.

But, that was just how it sounded to human senses!

In reality, the night was bustling with activity!

Birds chirped, mosquitoes buzzed, and various nocturnal creatures were on the move.

Jia Yan stood on the water's surface, gazing at his completely transformed body through the faint moonlight reflected on the water.

Rugged features! Sturdy skeleton! Plump wings!

He looked quite imposing!

"Indeed, it's a male mosquito, and it's a Chinese mosquito!" Jia Yan nodded.

The Chinese mosquito, a species of the mosquito subfamily, thrived in areas across the country except for Xinjiang.

With slightly white wing veins, most of its body covered in tiny scales, and a 'T'-shaped white spot on its ventral membrane!

These were the main characteristics of the Chinese mosquito.

"Speaking of which, this Chinese mosquito is quite oversized." Jia Yan marveled at his own body.

"If it weren't for some subtle details that I can still vaguely discern, I almost wouldn't recognize myself!"

Marveled as he was, Jia Yan understood that these were the results of his long-term training. If it weren't for this effect, he would have been frustrated.

Jia Yan stood on the water's surface, attentively observing his surroundings while waiting for his wings to harden so he could fly.

At this moment, coincidentally, another newly transformed Chinese mosquito beside him struggled to crawl out of the water.

Compared to the petite Chinese mosquito in front of him, Jia Yan was a giant, nearly half again as long as the other, with a black exoskeleton that appeared much tougher.

Seeing Jia Yan's large figure, the other mosquito was momentarily stunned, then startled, and promptly flipped back into the water!

Its three pairs of long legs kicked frantically in the air as it fell back into the water!

"Pfft!" Jia Yan burst into laughter!

"Hahaha, hope I didn't scare you, buddy!"

He was very amused.

After waiting a few more minutes, Jia Yan attempted to control his wings.

The feeling of manipulating his wings was strange, or rather, any action for Jia Yan now was a unique and novel experience.

Not only did he have wings on his body, but he also had three pairs of long legs, or six legs in total. As a human brain, controlling such a body was almost as difficult as walking.

Sometimes when he wanted to move his left front leg, it was the left middle leg that extended.

Sometimes when he wanted to flap his wings, one of his hind legs flapped vigorously instead.

He couldn't control it properly at all!

"Hmm, it seems like my wings are hard enough!" Jia Yan's heart rejoiced at another attempt.

He began to flap gently.

Buzz buzz buzz...

His wings flapped faster and faster!

Finally, he felt his feet leave the ground!

He was really flying!

Jia Yan was very excited!

As a human, one of his dreams was to try hang gliding or skydiving, to experience the thrill of flying in the sky.

But even after being reborn, none of these wishes were fulfilled. He hadn't even been on an airplane!

Never did he expect that as a mosquito, he could experience this feeling!

It was even more thrilling than those, as he was the one controlling the flight!

Jia Yan controlled his body unsteadily, rising into the night sky.

Buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz...

As a human, he found the sound of mosquitoes buzzing very annoying, but now, as a mosquito himself, hearing the sound of his own wings propelling him through the air was a different feeling altogether!

It felt like riding a helicopter, super cool!

The water surface gradually receded, and the surrounding scenery became smaller.

Mosquitoes also have a heart, but it's formed by some large tubular arteries. At this moment, Jia Yan felt the pulsation of these arteries, which seemed to have intensified several levels.

It was what they called accelerated heartbeat!

Truly exhilarating!

As he flew higher, Jia Yan realized that the pond where he had lived all along wasn't as large as he had imagined. It was probably the size of a basketball court.

Inside, it was dirty and messy, with some humans even dumping garbage in one corner of the pond.

Even the organic matter he ate every day might be the decaying residue of some human food.

Jia Yan dared not continue to think about it; he was afraid he would vomit!

So this was the true appearance of the world he had lived in...

He surveyed the pond below, controlling his body as he hovered in the air.

My 'nest' seems to be in that corner over there...

No wonder that area is relatively clean; there's a trickle of water flowing into the pond from there.

Jia Yan sighed.

At this moment, the mosquito brother who had been struggling in the water for some time also crawled out!

Without even looking at the big brother flying in the air, this fellow flapped its wings and displayed a much more powerful flying ability than Jia Yan, the human.

Directly shooting into the sky!

Jia Yan watched as this mosquito brother flew towards a vast open area in the distance.

There, a column of mosquitoes formed by countless mosquitoes danced wildly!

There were countless of them, hundreds or even thousands.

"Well, if I remember correctly, that's where all the mosquitoes waiting to mate are. That's none of my business!"

Jia Yan looked into the distance and shook his head.

He was a human, although now it seemed that there was some instinct in his body driving him to enter that column of mosquitoes and find some 'beautiful mosquito ladies' to start a family with, would he do it?

Impossible!

Jia Yan spread his wings and flew in the opposite direction of the mosquito column.

He found that his wings were powerful enough to fly faster and higher than an ordinary mosquito.

What Jia Yan cared most about was his proboscis!

His proboscis had obvious male mosquito characteristics, relatively slender overall, with a subtle upward curve at the front.

Compared to the robust proboscis of female mosquitoes, the proboscis of male mosquitoes was much thinner, and the evolution of the upper and lower lips had not reached the level of female mosquitoes, making it difficult to pierce animal skin.

So generally speaking, male Chinese mosquitoes indeed did not meet the requirements for blood-sucking.

But Jia Yan was different!

His proboscis was also relatively slender, but only relatively!

Like his enormous body, his proboscis was also quite large.

In terms of proboscis alone, there was still a certain gap compared to female mosquitoes, but it was not comparable to ordinary male mosquitoes!

"Indeed, it doesn't have the slender and powerful proboscis of female mosquitoes, but after twenty days of training, this proboscis has also been affected!"

"Although it still can't compare to female mosquitoes, compared to ordinary male mosquitoes, it's definitely much stronger! But I wonder if I can suck blood?"

"Since pupating until now, I haven't eaten anything. The loss of nutrients is too fast. I can feel that now, even moving around is consuming my vitality. I must find food quickly!"

Huff huff—

Just as Jia Yan decided to look for

food first, a strange wind suddenly sounded behind him.

It was the sound of a fast-moving object flying from the air!

The sensitive 'ears' made up of fine hairs on Jia Yan's body quickly caught the sound, and then, he felt a surge of panic!

"It's an animal hunting mosquitoes! Run!" he cried out in his heart!

The giant Chinese mosquito abruptly made a vertical descent in the air!

Jia Yan felt a terrifyingly large creature barely grazing past his head!

It opened its mouth to bite, but missed the evasive Jia Yan!

So big!

Jia Yan was dumbfounded!

To know, after being reborn as a larva, the largest predator he had seen was just a water scorpion, but now this creature, its size far exceeded that of the water scorpion!

This monstrous creature had a ferocious appearance, with wings devoid of a single feather.

Its dark body moved agilely in the night, truly a natural nocturnal killer!

It was a bat!

Jia Yan was so scared that his six feet almost went limp. With a vigorous flap of his freshly grown wings, he sped up even more, diving downward!

This bat seemed to be particularly fond of Jia Yan's large size as a Chinese mosquito. After gracefully turning in the air, it swooped towards Jia Yan again.

This time, Jia Yan made a sharp turn to the left!

Having the soul of a human, his dodging wisdom was undoubtedly much stronger than that of an ordinary mosquito.

The bat once again grazed past Jia Yan's body, and the gust of wind it stirred up caused Jia Yan to somersault several times in the air.

This time, the bat seemed to give up and flew into the dark night, quickly disappearing from sight!

"Really terrifying!"

Jia Yan's heart was still pounding as he lowered his flight altitude.

Just coming out of the pond and growing into a mosquito seemed to have made him forget that the world outside was possibly even more dangerous for a mosquito than the world of the pond!

There were more predators here, often springing out from places you least expected, ready to devour you!

"I must be extremely careful!"

Jia Yan flew unsteadily, his stomach growling with hunger. But seeing how dangerous every place seemed, he almost dared not land in the grass to suck on nectar and plant juices.

What should he do...
