Chapter 23 - Chapter 2

The following day, everyone searched for Kelly and the others. While searching, Zack and Cody went to get water from the river. Then the river glowed green, and Zack and Cody wondered why. Then, a ghost resembling their friend Rachel came out of the water. Then she flew towards them, and Zack and Cody ran away screaming. Then they ran right by Lou, and Lou wondered why they were running. Finally, Lou turned around and saw Rachel's ghost coming. Lou screamed, "GHOST!" Lou ran for her life and hid with Zack and Cody. Lou, Zack, and Cody climbed the same tree to the top when the spirit flew by them. Once they reached the top, they waited for the ghost to leave.

After the ghost left, Mike and Zoey looked up and saw Lou, Zack, and Cody in the trees. Zoey said, "What are you guys doing up there?" Lou said, "Hiding from the ghost." Zoey said, "What ghost?" Zack said, "So it's safe to come down?" Mike said, "Yes. There's no ghost." Zack started to climb down, but Cody stopped him. Zack said, "What gives?" Cody pointed down and covered his eyes. Zack looked at where Cody was pointing and saw the water in the river bubbling.

Then, a hand rose out of it, and more hands started to climb out of the ground. One of the hands grabbed Zoey's ankle, and she screamed. Then Mike began to climb up into the tree, reached his hand out, and Zoey grabbed it. Then Mike pulled Zoey up, and she broke off the hand holding her ankle. Then zombies rose out of the ground and chased after the other kids. While the zombies chased the kids, they all climbed into the trees so the zombies couldn't get them. Lou said, "I think we're safe. Zombies can't climb as we can. Then, one zombie threw his head at Lou. She caught it and screamed at it. Then she threw the noggin back at the zombies and held onto the tree while shouting. Mike said, "Lou, calm down." Lou said, "I can't. I'm too young to die." Kristina said, "No one is going to die. So, look on the bright side; things couldn't possibly get worse." Then it started to rain, and Kristina screamed. All the kids spent the rest of the night in the trees while it was raining because they were too scared to come down. When morning came, all the kids came down and stretched out because sleeping in trees filled their body parts with pain. Linda said, "I didn't know how raccoons slept in trees, but I think I understand now." Carl said, "They must have their way of survival."

Once they got down from the trees, they searched for the others. Finally, Sam said, "Maybe we all just had a bad dream last night." Then they started to hear growling, and a pack of bears came to their campsite. Then they all ran for their lives, screaming, and the bears chased them. Then, they all hid in a tree and ditched the bears. After the bears left, the wind started to howl, and a rainstorm started. Since it was raining, the kids stayed in the trees until it stopped. Once it did, all the kids climbed down from the trees, continued their search for the others, and hoped nothing scary would happen while they searched.

While searching, they came across a cemetery in the middle of the woods. Once they found it, they walked into the graveyard and hoped their friends were somewhere in it. While they were looking around, a guy with a rifle pointed it at them. The guy said, "Who are you? Zoey said, "Just a bunch of kids looking for their friends." The guy said, "Oh really? I'm Bobby Bellwood, and you're trespassing on my property." Bobby tried to shoot the kids, but they ran off, and Bobby chased after them while trying to shoot them. Then Bobby ran past many trees, and the kids peered out from behind them and saw they had lost him.

After they lost Bobby, they all split up and continued their search for the others. Mike, Zoey, and Lou then hopped over the river and didn't see anything scary. Once they got to the other side, they saw an old house. Mike said, "Who would be living out here?" Zoey said, "Maybe it's just an old cabin." Zoey walked up to the house, and Mike followed her. Lou said, "Guys, I wouldn't." Zoey said, "Stay here if you want, but we're going inside." Zoey knocked on the door, but no one answered, so she turned the knob, opened the door, walked in, and Mike followed her in. Once they got in, the door slammed shut behind them, and they looked around.

Mike opened an old trunk, and a bunch of bats flew out. Then he looked at what was inside it and saw a bunch of clothing. Zoey looked at the table and found a brown book with a skull picture. Zoey opened the book and skimmed through it, hoping it would give her a clue about what was happening. Mike walked up to Zoey, and she looked through the book and saw what it was. Mike said, "Zoey, that book seems kind of evil. Maybe you should put it back, please? Zoey turned to the next page and saw a picture of The Dead Woods. Zoey said, "Hey, this book shows a map of The Dead Woods." Mike said, "Maybe there's something in there that will tell us where our friends are." Zoey skimmed through the book but needed help finding something to help them. Then the house started to shake and got lifted in the air. Lou saw the house grow giant chicken legs when it hoisted itself up and saw a witch on the roof. The witch pointed at Lou and said, "You stay away from Baba Yaga's house. Stay away, or you will meet your doom."

Bana Yaga walked downstairs, and Mike and Zoey hid with the book when they heard her coming. Mike and Zoey peered out of their hiding place and saw Baba Yaga mixing something in her kitchen. Baba Yaga put in some werewolf hair and then a pinch of hot sauce. Zoey opened the book and found a recipe that matched the ingredients she had put in the cauldron. Zoey said, "It says here she's putting together a locator spell to track children." Mike said, "Children like us." Zoey said, "Uh oh." Baba Yaga put in the final ingredient, and it showed Mike and Zoey in her house. Baba Yaga said, "So, I have intruders in my house." Zoey skimmed through the book and tried to find a spell to help them. Then the book closed and got pulled away from them. Then it levitated up in the air and floated toward Baba Yaga, and she grabbed it. Baba Yaga then found Mike and Zoey and said, "Intruders, you dare steal my book." Mike said, "Um, we were just leaving." Mike grabbed Zoey, and they walked to the door, but Baba Yaga pulled a rope and caught Mike and Zoey in a net. Baba Yaga said, "You'll never escape."

Meanwhile, the others gathered back at their campsite and saw Mike and Zoey were missing. Zack said, "Where's Mike and Zoey?" Lou said, "Last time I saw them, they went into a witch's house that grew chicken legs, and it ran away with them." Emma said, "Now we have to find Emma, Hannah, Cindy, Nick, Kelly, Mike, and Zoey." When night came, they all gathered around the fire and roasted marshmallows before they slept. When they finished, they all went to sleep around the campfire. While they were asleep, a man in a black cape hung upside down in a tree, and Zack saw him. Zack said, "This can't be good." Zack looked up, and the guy in the black cape moved his cape away and showed Zack his face. The guy showed Zack he was a vampire by showing him his fangs. Then he jumped down from the tree and snapped his fingers. Then, an army of vampires surrounded Zack and grabbed him. After they seized him, Zack screamed, and the vampires brought him into the trees. Chris woke up and saw Zack was gone. Chris said, "Where's Zack? Not him, too."
