Chereads / A Luna For The Hybrid / Chapter 8 - Rage

Chapter 8 - Rage

Ava's POV

"What the hell, Emily!" I shrieked in surprise, as my eyes caught the sight of my blonde bestfriend, locking lips with Freya under a large, oak tree. Freya had her arm wrapped around Emily, making out with her while I run laps around the woods. I didn't even know either of them were attracted to each other until now.

"Oh, Ava! Didn't hear you approaching." Emily muttered shyly, her face turning a slight red. I just stood there with my jaw literally hanging open. Emily was blushing! Since when does Emily blush?

"Get your sticky paws off my friend, you... you.." I refrained myself from calling Freya names, seeing how amused she was. First, my mate and now she's hooking up with my best friend? Somebody better stop this bitch!

"Hey! Calm down Ava. No need to get so worked up." Emily said, running over to my side and trying to avert my glare from Freya. She was now standing between me and a tall, dark, smirking, alpha female.

"Yeah.. no need to get so worked up, little bi..." Freya started to tease before I let out a low, warning growl. At this point, I was surprising myself with how stupidly bold I was being. Where's all this anger coming from?

"Ava, look at me!" Emily pleaded, placing her hands on my chest and trying to distance me from Freya, from getting my ass thoroughly whooped. All I could think of was how to wipe that smirk off her face. After all the recent training, I should be able to take her, right?

"You had me running around the whole woods all morning, only for you to stay here, making out with my friend?" I seethed at Freya, totally ignoring Emily's fading pleas.

"Honey if you wanted to join us, you could have just said so." She replied, looking down at me smugly and enraging me even further.

That did it for me. In one swift motion, I sidestepped Emily, moving past her and landing a punch on Freya's smirking face. I felt the snapping of a couple bones in my fist but I was too mad to care. Freya on the other hand, didn't even flinch. If anything, I saw a crazed look in her eyes and that made a gasp escape my lips.

"Now that's more like it. That's the kind of boldness that gets you killed." She chuckled darkly, making me back away slowly. The whole woods around us seemed to have fallen into complete silence and even Emily was cowering in a corner.

"I love it." Freya said, exposing her fangs to me. Like the speed of lightning, she charged at me, making me sink into a defensive position.

Her fist collided with my stomach, instantly causing me to gasp, as my body soared through air. I heard Emily screaming in horror at a distance, just before I fell to the snow with a thud. Just one hit. It took just one hit from Freya to send me to the ground. A frustrated groan escaped my lips, as I lay on the cold, snowy ground. I wasn't wearing a coat like the both of them, so I felt a shiver run down my body immediately.

"Aww C'mon! Don't tell me you're no longer mad." Freya teased, obviously enjoying this too much.

She had been training me for over a month now and if she wasn't making me run ridiculous distances, she'd be beating the absolute shit out of me. This was the first time I was a really attacking her and for some reason, she was excited about it. Jared is definitely going to be mad when he finds out that Emily now knows of our training sessions.

"You want to be a Luna? Well you can't do that if you're too much of a pussy to keep fighting. Let me see what you've got." Freya suddenly growled at me, making me frown in determination. She was right. I had to keep fighting.

She attempted to slam her feet right into my chest, as I lay on the ground but I was quick enough to roll out of the way. She didn't stop there. As soon as I was trying to get up, she delivered a spinning kick to my face, making me hit a nearby tree. I felt my vision get blurry for a while, before shaking it off. Time to stop messing around.

I reached into sheathed pockets, drawing out my pair of daggers and flashing it at Freya, who seemed a bit impressed. I had been practicing different strokes, so I was feeling really confident with the weapons in my hands.

"Don't hold back, little bird!" Freya grinned widely.

"I won't." I said, with clenched teeth.

From the corner of my eyes, I saw Emily biting into her nails and watching with a worried expression. Freya also seemed to have noticed her and I took advantage of the momentary distraction.

Kicking a large quantity of snow at her face, she instinctively closed her eyes, tensing up in defense. I went at her, dagger aimed for her chest. Somehow, she was still able to sense my attack, effortlessly sidestepping me and causing my blade to miss her narrowly. Damn, she was fast!

I looked back at her to see one of my daggers in her hand and my eyes widened. She took it from my hand without my knowledge? Her only eye was still even closed.

"Emotions will get you killed in battle. Get rid of them." She instructed, tossing my dagger aside. What emotion was she talking about, rage?

I was about to charge at her again, before an ear piercing howl reverberated through the woods, instantly bringing me to a halt. Howling sounds were a pretty normal thing in a wolf pack but not this one. This was different.

"Rogues." Emily breathed out, clearly noticing it too.

"A pack of them." Freya added, sniffing the air with her eyes closed. She was trying to gauge the direction they were coming from.

I felt panic gradually take over me because I had heard stories about rogue wolves before. Vicious, mindless and bloodthirsty savages that no longer had their human side intact. I've never seen one before and I didn't know if I wanted to.

Freya suddenly let out a snarl, making me look at her with widened eyes. They were getting closer to this part of the woods, obviously bypassing the border security already.

"Take Emily with you. Go!" She said to me, before shoving Emily in my direction. Was she planning on taking on all of them by herself?

"Let me help." I blurted out, suddenly feeling the urge to stay and fight. I didn't want to go ahead and run off like some coward. I wanted to defend the pack too.

"For fuck's sake, Ava you take Emily and get out of here. You're not ready." Freya growled at me in annoyance. I could see her eyes were totally darkened already and she was probably going to shift anytime soon, so I decided not to argue further.

"Take your weapons with you. Kill any of them that try to attack you on the way but don't stop running till you get to the pack." She said to me, making me nod frantically. I grabbed Emily's hand as instructed and started dragging her along with me. Her eyes still kept lingering on Freya, as we ran away.

The animals in the woods also seemed to be disturbed by all the sudden commotions and howling. I and Emily ran as fast as our legs could carry us, not stopping to even look around. We seemed to be getting closer to the Pack lands and that made my heart beat faster. We were already so close but alas! A body roughly slammed into me from my side, shoving me to the ground with a pained groan.

I looked up to see Bailey, one of the pack warriors who had always hated me so much. She was glaring down at me like I had just stolen something from her.

"Leave us alone, bitch!" Emily screeched, charging blindly at Bailey. The latter just casually smacked her across the face, sending her falling to the ground. I snarled but she just ignored me.

"I know Luna Freya has been training you." Bailey suddenly said to me, making my glare harden. Was she really bothered about something like that right now? Our freaking pack was literally under attack and this was her problem?

"And I know she's not Alpha Jared's mate. You are!" She grinned maliciously, taking me by surprise.

"What?" I managed to whisper.

"Luna Freya was just a cover up for your weak ass but no more." She suddenly popped out her claws, slowly walking towards me. I didn't back up, didn't avert my glare. I didn't show her how scared I was.

"You will not touch me until an official challenge has been fixed between us." I hissed at her advancing figure. She chuckled wickedly at me.

I could have pushed myself up but I couldn't move. I think I broke a couple ribs from her rough tackling earlier and I was literally helpless. Whatever she does, I hope she makes it quick because I'd hate to beg her for my life.

She was soon directly above me, smiling down at me and readying her claws to take a swipe. However, just as she was about to slice through me, a dagger protruded out of her stomach, making her eyes widen in shock. Bailey's hands were now shaky and clutching onto her stomach, as the metal burned inside her; silver. Blood dripped from her mouth onto my face and I scrunched up my nose in disgust. Emily was the one who stabbed her from behind and I was also quite shocked.

Bailey's body soon dropped to the ground, right beside me and Emily glared hard at her.

"She should have left us alone."
