Henry embraced Megan once more in the morning, kissing and hugging and licking everywhere. It started at 6 AM on a monday and slowed down by 7: 30 AM. He had classes at 8 AM and she had an event at 8:30 AM. She agreed to drop him off when they had breakfast and showered.
"Bacon, bread, eggs, and bean?" she asked.
It sounded good to him so he agreed. Ten minutes. After that would be a fifteen minute shower, two minutes of kissing again and then driving until they were on campus and late because nobody cared if you showed up. The only people who cared were the professors who would grade your stuff and as long as you passed, that was good enough for them. They had also been late themselves. Being early didn't offer any kind of benefit, meaning rushing was pointless.
He got and stared at her. She was even more life-like compared to his dreams. She changed into the same black shorts. The same pink tank top. The same long flowing pink blonde hair. The same ocean blue eyes. She had noticed his stare and returned her own. She was blatantly confident about where she wanted to look and it turned him hot real fast. He turned around to cool down only to hear her laugh.
The broken door. He now remembered what happened but he didn't care. He looked around before making a decision. The unconscious, dead men in his apartment caught him by surprise. He had thought that they would regain consciousness and leave. After what seemed like ages had passed by, he realized that it was a miracle that no one had come to check in on him. Thinking about the different scenarios that could have been, he settled on the one that seemed to be the simplest. They were scared and didn't dare to come up.
That worked out in his favor. He just had to explain the loud noise. He didn't have to explain anything else. Feeling satisfied, he searched each body thoroughly before totaling up his spoils. Several thousands of dollars in unmarked bills. Unmarked? Why would they be unmarked unless they did more than just loan money. Maybe, he could use these bills for something else? He dragged each body to a closet and propped them up inside. She had been watching him since who knows when. He eventually realized she was there and when he stared, she smiled and winked.
"Mister Ruthless"
The way she said him gave him more strength. It was slow and drawn out. There was a slight inflection of romance in it, like she wanted him to do her right now. But he didn't. She wasn't disappointed and kept smiling. Instead of dragging the remaining three bodies, he tossed them. He didn't bother to hide anything because she saw it already. His strength that is. After that, he explained the situation to her.
"Those unmarked bills could come in handy. I can loan you some debt-free cash"
Debt-free meant that he didn't have to pay it back. Better then a loan and from the girl he loved. The rich girl who probably didn't care for most men. Wouldn't care for him either if it wasn't… it was best not to over think good things. A young, attractive, and rich girl was lusting after him for reasons she couldn't comprehend and that was fine to him. He took the bills, kissed her, and stepped into the hallway. He didn't close the door because there wasn't any.
The supervisor was still lying on the ground, dead. Nobody had moved his body over night. That made sense because none of the other bodies were moved either. He searched the body thoroughly and put it back into the closet before taking the elevator down to the first floor. The door he was looking for was at the end of the hallway.
Mr. And Mrs. Pearhut
They opened their door before he got halfway down the hall. Looked him straight in the eyes.
"I can see eight hundred dollars in your hands Henry. The perfect amount to fix most damages. We'll need to talk about why it happened and how to prevent it from happening again, lest you should choose to find a different place that's more accommodating to… damage. We can cover for you once but not twice"
The Pearhuts were good with their hands. They could use tools in a way that he thought was similar to a magic trick. Ordinarily, fixing a frame would cost several thousand, but because their specialty lay in their technique instead of the material, the fixes lasted for years and were much cheaper.
As for what covering meant, it meant saving his ass from a good lecture and pricey negotiations. The landlord was insufferable but caring. He had seen her once before. A petite and slightly curvy woman who always wore stockings and a cashmere. Susan, that was her name. Susan was a scientist who eventually got into real estate. When she approached her parents for a business deal, they instead attacked her as though she was a rival. Feel bitter and resentful, she eventually got over the fact that they were her parents and battled against them bitterly. She eventually won half of their properties before they begged her for mercy. When she asked them why they did all that, they claimed it was to make her a tougher person in a tough world. She did not buy any of it and they moved into one of their cheaper properties.
This was why she let him rent a room on the tenth floor in a commercial heavy part of the city for cheap. She felt pity for him the way she felt pity for herself in the beginning. Now that it was damaged, it would be a different story but he wasn't worried. If it was before, then he would be worried.
"Thanks. I'm not afraid of a negotiation"
He handed the money for the repairs to the Pearhuts before continuing to the end of the hallway and making a right. There was another door at the end of this hallway and also the entrance to the building. He walked casually up to it, faced it, and breathed in before kicking the door down with his foot. It didn't fall but flew across the room and out the window.
