Chapter 18 - Example Of Things To Come

"Gah! This damn bird monster is too slippery! Captain! What do we do?" A guard called out, hurriedly reloading his weapon.

The Guard Captain was about to give an order but... What the captain saw after turning around shocked him to his very core. It was a small bird monster flying in from the side, it had no panic nor unease in its movements.

Once it was close to the guard, it turned itself such that its wingspan was vertical. It cawed out as it made its approach.

"Watch out!" Another guard called out towards the other one...

But...

His call was too late...

The bird opened its beak as it passed by the panicked guard's throat...

The bird ripped the Guard's throat out from his body as it flew past him. The guard's neck spurted blood everywhere, in a truly gruesome display. The look in his eyes, screamed for help, but he could speak no longer... He then fell sprawled on his back in a pool of his own blood.

The Guard Captain's face grimaced at the sight. So this is how gruesome the bird monsters can be... He thought.

"Keep firing until that bird is dead! You three get the City Lord to a safe place on the double... Triple!" The Captain ordered. Picking up the shotgun that had slid over to him.

Three Guards quickly moved to action, practically dragging the City Lord. Along with them was the City Lords Butler.

Hmm, those ones over there are leaving? Those three are guards, the city lord and...

No way! Really!

"Mother! Mother! I found one of those things! It's the Butler!" Vitaliana said in a panicked voice message to Eternia.

"Don't attack it yet. Let your big sisters or I deal with it. You're not strong enough yet. Let that city lord go for now." Eternia replied, doing her best to remain calm while calming Vitaliana down.

"But..." Vitaliana tried to talk back but stopped on her own after seeing the appraisal and analysis results.

"You see why now, don't you? It's alright my dear. Those things are not strong enough to pose a threat to me, your beautiful mother. You've already done a good job. Go ahead and kill off the rest of those guards to increase your level a bit more. Exposing such heinous creatures as those... You've performed admirably already. I'll give you extra nuzzles later." Eternia continued, giggling a little at the end.

With a bit of excitement welling up hearing her mother's words, Vitaliana began flying at a speed that no regular guard would hope to keep up with.

Time for me to begin using all the skills at my disposal! I am now a Proud Bird of Prey! Feel my wrath!

From this point on, it wasn't even a battle. The bullets that were flying through the air were hitting, well, nothing but air. Guards began boiling away, Screaming in abject agony. The Screams could be heard from all over the city, courtesy of the still functioning sound transmission system.

Vitaliana, using her high speed combined with low-tier spatial magic... It was nothing but a one sided brutal take down. The once seemingly peaceful city square was now made into a bloody hellscape. Guards melted into puddles of boiled away human remains, and grotesquely torn apart bodies.

The regular citizens that had been killed in this battle, all laid there, not a single one with a wound inflicted from the Vitaliana. The dead guards numbered in several dozens. However, Vitaliana, hovering in the air after the battle, looked at the dead citizens.

I killed dozens of guards... And in the process those guards had killed more citizens than they themselves numbered. All of these poor souls who will never know peace, for their future is now shattered to pieces. All because of those damn fiends. Even demons are more honorable than those bastards.

Seriously, who kills over a hundred of their own people in the process of attacking a monster? Totally stupid, the armament faction really is insane...

There are even young among the dead here...

Several more Guards came running over. However, this unit seemed to be mostly comprised of young women. They were clearly new recruits from the looks of their equipment. None of them had a firearm either.

The group of guards stopped running, their mouths agape at the sight before them. Some cry without sound, instinctively. Others fall to their knees. And the rest locked eyes with the hovering Bird Monster.

I probably shouldn't kill these ones just yet. They don't seem to be hostile, merely wary of what my next move may be.

"Consider this a warning to all the city! Soon this place will become entrenched with the vengeful wrath of my sisters and I. Consider this your lesson for raising your hands against Mother! And learn of the folly that you all have by fighting us. Your Guards could do absolutely nothing to keep me out of the city, nor could they kill me while extensively outnumbering me. And on top of that over a hundred of your citizens are dead by the guards' own hand." Vitaliana spoke, forcing a confident and domineering tone.

The guards that had come over began scanning the wounds of the dead. And then looked in total shock at each other upon realizing that the wounds they saw on the citizens could only ever be made from firearms.

"""It's true, our citizens were killed by weapon fire!""" They said, just loud enough that it was caught by the voice transmission system.

"Remember this, I am the weakest of my sisters. And I only completely outclassed an entire company's worth of your guards. I remain uninjured, while your guards are dead lying in pools of their own sinful blood. Killing those whom they have sworn to protect and declaring intention to rebel against the gods... Their blood couldn't be more sinful if they tried." Vitaliana continued. "Soon, this whole city will be turned into a sea of flames, to sooth our mother's soul. You may choose how you wish to spend your final moments. Repent, and beg for forgiveness, or, foolishly arm yourselves with weapons that don't work against us. Only to die in a futile slaughter. The choice is yours." Vitaliana finished speaking with a truly blood curling tone of voice. And then she vanished from the area without a trace.

The city was now in chaos as the citizens panicked.
