"Mother, is it alright to expect little sister to walk all the way over here? She must have been scared not knowing if she would survive." The eldest sister asked worriedly.
"Oh, it's no matter for this little one. She's the one that saved the eggs after all. Or have you not seen it yet?" The human-form bird monster answered unbothered.
"Hmm, Oh my, how does little sister have this many skills already? She's so young, yet so strong. Even more than that... She's level 9 already." The eldest sister chirped in shock.
I guess I should have known they would figure me out... I hope they don't try to hurt me after finding out I'm a reincarnation... But how did they see past my concealment?
"Don't worry about those trivial things. You're my daughter, I'd never bring harm to you. So long as you're a good girl. Now be a good girl and come to mommy's hand." The human-form bird monster smiled, with a tear falling.
I can't walk very well... I guess I have to teleport... No, this is my mother... I heard that watching their baby's first steps is a happy experience for the mother... I have to stand on my own talons!
"Mother, she's so cute! The way she's struggling to walk. She really wants to be cute. Even though she's capable of teleporting, instead of taking that way she's actually walking." The 2nd eldest sister chirped happily.
Step, step, flop.
Ouch! get up! Come on! Make it over to mommy!
Step, step, step... flop...
WAHN! Mommy! Mommy! Must reach Mommy!
The little tori struggled to stand back up again.
This time for sure! I'ma make it to mommy's hand! I refuse to give in to this! I'll make it there! GO MY LEGS GO GO GO!
Step, step, step, step, step, Chirp! CHIRP!
Another step, left, another step, right! Left! Right! LEFT!! RIGHT!! Woah! No wobbling! Only balance! And STEP!
Step, step, step, step... The little tori reached the next big challenge. A step up! This step would put the tori in her mothers hand. Leg up! And forward, flop. The tori flopped into her mothers hand.
By comparison, it was obvious at a glance that the tori was just barely the size of the woman's hand. Yet, the woman stood up with her newly hatched daughter in her hand, a smile on her face with the tears rolling down.
Is mother happy or sad? It looks like both... but I can't look at her mana for some reason, I wonder why? This feeling... I...
Chirp chirp... rub rub... The tori rubbed against the woman's thumb sensing the pain from within.
"Aren't you adorable? I don't know what you did in your previous life, and it doesn't matter. You're my little girl now, family. You helped protect your sisters as well? That's what I'm doing for you." The tori's mother smiled, wiping the tears away, putting them into some sort of hyper dimensional storage space.
"Oh? So that was you! You really saved us there little sister. That little healing magic was just enough. But teleporting all your sisters away was a great help." The 3rd eldest sister said.
"It won't take little sister all too long before she evolves into a tori niao, with skills like that! She might even catch up with us elemental falcons!" the 4th sister said, chirping away.
"Don't worry about them, little sister, they are just excited to see such a talented little sister. Please, don't blame them. Not, after what the humans did... That was too far..." The 5th eldest sister said, starting to cry.
Does this have something to do with the big explosion I heard before, I wonder? If it did, then I have a pretty good idea about what it might be...
"My daughter, my family have been thinned out quite a lot this time. I want revenge for my children's deaths. Humans will learn the true meaning of suffering. But first... we must take the unhatched ones home..." The little tori's mother said, stopping after saying those words.
"""Home...""" My 5 sisters said in a tearful voice.
It was one of those weapons then... An anti-mana bomb! Those damn bastards! How dare they kill me to turn to such a weapon! DOWN WITH THE IRON CENT EMPIRE!
"Oh! You were killed by those imperial humans before? Hmm, that means you must have been a magic wielding human of some kind. No wonder, they were all killed about two days ago. All of the people in the Empire were tested for magic power. Those that had even the slightest, were killed on the spot." The tori's mother explained.
"So then, that's why those humans were so weak and tasted awful. They were too weak to have any flavor." The eldest sister grumbled.
"In that case, let's have our little sister eat some of these guys? If they are too weak for us, they might still have a use for her, right?" The 2nd Eldest suggested.
"Only if she wants to. If not, we can go hunt a few orcs to feed her until she's satisfied." the mother butted in, to defend the little tori's flavor palate.
Hmm, these humans don't have much power at all. They relied on weapons to do the job for them. This is in contrast to the will of the world. So they are bound to taste rotten no matter what. But... I still feel like eating them... I have to test this feeling at least once or twice. I'm a monster after all.
The eldest sister had already gone over and picked up a small piece of meaty flesh. The mother took it in her hand, and then held it in front of the tori.
Then the tori pecked at it, eating a small amount of the flesh...
Ugh gross! It tastes like the smell of rotten eggs and diarrhea.
"I guess that's a no go then. Alright, children, burn those bastards to ash. We're going to build a new nest elsewhere. And then feast upon some orc!" The mother said, completely incinerating the flesh in her hand. "I'm sorry my girl, I shouldn't have let you taste something so foul. We'll get something tasty to make up for it." She added.
