Chapter 137 - Are we going to be locked up here forever?
"Where are your parents?"
The police officer stared at them, his gaze no longer as gentle.
First, they were tagged as suspicious, and now they weren't answering any questions.
Under the intense stares of the two officers, Irina and Xenovia were about to cry.
Parents?
Xenovia was a natural-born holy sword wielder adopted by the church; she didn't even know who her parents were!
As for Irina, what good were her parents when they were so far away?
To top it off, they were broke and didn't even have a cell phone.
Irina glanced at Xenovia, her eyes filled with resentment and helplessness.
If Xenovia hadn't come up with that crazy idea, they wouldn't have gone to the shopping district and gotten caught by the police.
Xenovia, however, remained unfazed. Her eyes were firm, conveying a message to Irina—this is a trial from the Lord.
"What's that?" The police officer eyed the sword wrapped in cloth behind Xenovia.
"It's a painting, a painting!" Irina blurted out hastily.
Hearing this, the two officers gave Irina a strange look.
A painting that looks like a cross? Seriously?
"No, I mean, mine is a painting," Irina quickly corrected herself, pushing forward the oil painting wrapped in white cloth.
She lifted the cloth slightly to reveal a corner of the portrait inside.
"Unwrap that and show us," the officer said, staring at Xenovia.
Reluctantly, Xenovia unwrapped the cloth around Excalibur Destruction.
Seeing the sword, the officers probably figured these two girls might be cosplayers.
"Alright, come with us."
The police stopped wasting time.
These two were too suspicious with their outfits and behavior. Plus, they didn't have any ID, so they had to be taken in.
"Xenovia, what do we do?" Irina whispered anxiously as she leaned closer to Xenovia.
"They probably have food inside, right?" Xenovia pondered for a moment and replied seriously.
You're such a genius.
Irina was on the verge of tears. People said she was an idiot, but clearly, Xenovia was the real idiot here.
"We'll escape after we fill our stomachs." Xenovia suddenly came up with a "perfect" plan for a free meal.
Irina didn't know what to say; she couldn't keep up with Xenovia's thinking.
"Escape from the police station?"
"Then what about our mission?"
"Are we going to become wanted criminals in Kuoh Town?"
"The two of us are holy sword wielders; we don't use magic, so we can't just wipe their memories!"
"We're just taking you back to cooperate with the investigation. It's nothing serious. If you know anyone here, you can have them come pick you up," the police officer said, not minding their whispering.
Although they looked suspicious, they were just two girls around sixteen or seventeen.
Their attire and behavior were odd, but they probably weren't too much trouble.
"Can I bring this with me?"
Irina held up the pot and asked pitifully.
This was Excalibur Mimic, but she couldn't transform it in front of normal people, so it had to stay disguised.
The officer chuckled. It's just a beat-up pot, but she's really attached to it!
"Sure."
Then the two officers escorted Irina and Xenovia into the police car.
Seeing them taken away, Mahiro couldn't help but burst into laughter.
The esteemed holy sword wielders of the church, arrested for begging on the streets?
If word got out, people would die laughing.
"They actually got taken away..." Rias watched the departing police car, equally stunned.
Mahiro shook his head. "Didn't you set this up? You really went all out."
Rias rubbed her temples, feeling that the church duo had just lowered her expectations of human intelligence.
Honestly, she never thought Irina and Xenovia would actually get taken away.
She just wanted them to be more vigilant, especially since Kuoh Town had been chaotic these past two days.
Even if it didn't make a big difference, it could help a bit.
But she didn't expect the church duo to be this clueless.
Weren't those officers just doing routine checks?
They couldn't even handle that...
Rias was truly speechless.
"Darling, what should we do? Are you going to help them now?" Rias asked.
"Let's let them stew for a bit," Mahiro shook his head. "Let's continue with our plans."
"Alright, Akeno interrupted us yesterday, so today is our date—just the two of us." Rias's eyes sparkled with a sweet smile.
At the Kuoh Town, Police Station.
"Xenovia, didn't you say we'd get food here?" Irina clutched her stomach; it was completely empty and kept growling.
"But why hasn't anyone paid attention to us?" Irina complained.
It had been almost three hours since they were brought to the station. Aside from being asked a few questions at the beginning, they'd been left alone, locked in an office.
They'd tried to get someone's attention, but the officers seemed too busy to care.
"How should I know?" Xenovia was feeling frustrated too.
Growing up in the church and trained as holy sword wielders, they'd had no distractions other than their faith.
They weren't as naive as Asia, but when it came to social interactions, they were almost clueless.
Their original plan was to get a meal at the police station and then sneak out.
But upon arrival, they found that not only did they not get food, but escaping was out of the question.
"Irina, what do we do now? I lost all our documents, and we can't contact the church. Are we going to be locked up here forever?" Xenovia said tearfully.
Contacting the overseas church was out of the question.
In Kuoh Town, a priest was supposed to have come ahead to scout, but when they arrived, they found he had disappeared.
Most likely, he'd already been killed.
"If there's really no other way, we'll have to break out." Xenovia gritted her teeth.
