Chapter 112 - Finally, A New Quest!

"Another dimension?"

When Mahiro showed up again, he found himself at Kuoh Academy in another dimension. Though the scenery had changed, he was still inside the Occult Research Club.

"Everyone, I'm honored to be the referee for this match. I'm Grayfia, the maid of the Gremory Clan."

Grayfia's voice suddenly echoed throughout the dimension.

Mahiro immediately recognized this as the official announcement kicking off the match.

"This time, the venue is a replica of Rias-sama's school in the human world, Kuoh Academy. Both participants have arrived at the arena. There are ten minutes left before the match officially starts, so both sides should wrap up their final preparations."

"That's all."

Grayfia's no-nonsense style was clear in her brief but straightforward instructions.

[Ding! New quest available!]

[Generating quest...]

[Ding! Quest generated! Host, please check.]

A familiar system prompt sounded, bringing a grin to Mahiro's face. After Grayfia's announcement, the long-awaited system notification finally popped up.

Considering this was a major turning point in the anime, Mahiro had been wondering why there hadn't been a quest for so long. He didn't expect the system to be so damn precise with its timing.

He opened the system panel and quickly glanced at the mission details.

===

Main Quest: Rias's Engagement

Mission Requirements: Defeat Riser Phenex in the rating game, earn the approval of everyone in the Underworld, and completely resolve the mess of Rias's engagement.

Mission Difficulty: Normal

Mission Rewards: Two lottery draws.

===

"Two lottery draws? That's pretty generous," Mahiro mused, raising an eyebrow.

After checking the system, Mahiro didn't stick around in the ORC. Instead, he opened a window and jumped out.

The sky above the entire dimension shimmered with a distorted brilliance, instantly making it clear this wasn't the real world. High above, a big digital clock displayed "8:50," with the numbers ticking down.

It was the countdown to the start of the game.

In large-scale team battles like this, participants are usually teleported in advance to get familiar with the environment and plan their strategies.

"More than eight minutes left..."

For Mahiro, knowing the terrain wasn't necessary, nor did he need to come up with some elaborate plan. After glancing at the countdown, he looked away and started wandering aimlessly.

Kuoh Academy's grounds were as vast as any typical campus, fitting for a fancy academy.

Although Grayfia mentioned that both he and Riser were teleported to opposite ends of the arena, their exact locations were unclear. Tracking down each opponent one by one would be a pain in the ass.

In that case, it was better to make himself visible and let them come to him.

Principal's Office, Kuoh Academy

This spot had been chosen as a stronghold by Riser and his peerage.

Riser lounged in a leather office chair, surrounded by his peerage members, some of whom were doing unspeakable things with him.

"Brother, the game starts in eight minutes. Don't you want to plan a strategy?" Ravel Phenex, Riser's sister, asked, clearly disgusted by her brother's behavior.

"A lot of people are watching this match, even the Satans are paying attention. If something goes wrong, it could seriously screw up the Phenex Clan's reputation," Ravel added.

"Screw up? What could possibly go wrong?" Riser scoffed. "This time, the opponent is just a human. I could win with my eyes closed."

"As for strategy..." Riser sneered. "It's not us who need to strategize; it's that human."

"That human is strong. If you lose, don't expect me to comfort you," Ravel said disdainfully.

This fake sister!

Riser glanced at Ravel helplessly but had to agree. "You're right. There's only one human, and while he might have the strength of a High-Class, he's still alone. His most likely move will be to launch sneak attacks and pick us off one by one."

"In that case, it's easy to counter. Yubelluna and I will stay at the base, while the rest of you split into groups of four or five to search the battlefield and find that human," Riser quickly assigned the teams.

Eight pawns, two rooks, two knights, and two bishops.

The pawns were divided into groups of three and two, led by the rooks or knights, while the bishops were randomly assigned.

The pawns had the strength of Middle-Class, while the rooks and knights were High-Class.

Once the teams were organized, Riser continued, "Try not to go alone. When you find the human, engage him immediately and don't let him escape. The rest of the team will back you up as fast as possible."

"Understood, Riser-sama," the peerage members replied.

"Isabela, let's get out of here first. If we stay any longer, the stench will make us sick," Ravel said coldly, causing Riser's mouth to twitch in irritation.

'If she weren't my sister...'

"Yes, Ravel-sama," Isabela, one of Riser's rooks, replied sternly. She was dressed simply, wearing an iron mask, shorts, trousers, and armor covering vital areas, with simple gloves on her hands.

"Let's go," Ravel commanded. With that, she, Isabela, and three pawns left the principal's office and began patrolling Kuoh Academy.

"A school in the human world? Looks kinda interesting," Ravel mused. As a devil, she'd lived in the Underworld most of her life and rarely visited the human world. She was curious about human schools.

The rest of her team followed closely, acting as her guards.

"What's that?" Isabela suddenly exclaimed.

"What's wrong, Isabela?" Ravel asked curiously, noticing Isabela's reaction.

"I think I've found the human," Isabela said with a weird expression.

"So soon? Where?" Ravel's eyes lit up with surprise.

"Over there," Isabela pointed.

Ravel looked in the direction she indicated. In the distance, on the playground, a figure stood openly, making no attempt to hide.

"What is that human doing?" Ravel asked, puzzled as she saw Mahiro standing there.

"Maybe he's given up and decided to expose himself?" one of the pawns, a blue-haired, cat-eared devil, guessed.

"Bullshit. He knows that losing means death. He'd struggle no matter what," another pawn, a brown-haired, cat-eared devil, countered.

"Ravel-sama, should we go over and check it out?" Isabela asked.

"Yeah, let's see what this guy is up to," Ravel nodded, intrigued by Mahiro's bold stance.
