After washing her hands, she dried them in the dryer and left the restroom.
"Humph!"
Just before she could take a step from the closed door, her back collided with the wall beside the door, with her two hands pinned to the wall above her head.
The familiar mint scent filled her nostrils before she even looked up. And then... She felt it.
She felt the bone-weakning tingles from her wrist which was pinned above her, down to her toes, her knees threatening to melt like butter. She felt her pulse accelerate, but she pretended like she didn't feel anything and made it look like was because she had just been ambushed by a stranger.
She deliberately acted like she was scared; she would rather he saw her as being startled by him than being affected by him. She would rather burn herself to ash than admit to those feelings. She wondered why the moon goddess chose to do this, was her life a sort of game to her?
"Who are you?" His voice was menacing.
Alpha Lake was stumped, not in his wildest dreams did he prepare himself for the electrifying spark he felt the moment his hand touched her skin, he got more curious about who she was, and what she did that made his wolf go crazy, he was an Alpha, he knew what these feelings implied but he tried his hardest to ignore it, even as his wolf threatened to break free.
He would never be mated to an ordinary human, and surely not one that was a spitting image of the person he hated the most in the world.
He assured himself that she couldn't possibly be his mate, because her scent was different from the one he was searching for, being this close to her confirmed it. It was as if she had no accustomed scent, just the smell of a flowery perfume that assaulted his nostrils.
He hated it.
Audrey felt the urge to kick him between his legs, but she controlled herself and slowly looked up at him, flashing him her best smile.
"Your new Secretary, Sir." She spoke calmly, looking into his gray eyes, and regretted it immediately, the feel of his skin in hers and the proximity made her breath hitch.
Alpha Lake was irked, he did not like the tone and attitude he received from the woman in front of him.
He was unconsciously expecting her to be docile and weak like Audre, but he saw a totally different attitude. And, he was strangely disturbed by the sound of her voice and eyes, in short, he was disturbed by everything about her. Why should she be a replica of the person he hated the most?
"Listen to me,"
He used his thumb and index finger to raise her face to him.
He felt those electrifying tingles seeping from her chin into his skin, his eyes darkened, and Audrey realized at that moment, that he felt the same way as her, she decided to be calm, she knew her chances of exposing herself at the moment were very slim, her wolf was almost in control, sensing that her mate was very close by.
Audrey felt conflicted within. She felt the urge to snap his neck and the urge to wrap her arms around it, she needed to get away from him as soon as possible.
"You will stay away from me." He whispered lowly into her ears, noticing the way she shrank away from him.
'Good'
He thought to himself. He thought she shrank away from him because she was scared of him, he was glad she was just a human and could not feel the palpable force of attraction drawing him to her. He would ignore it, as long she did not feel it too, he would keep it to himself.
"Do not even think of seducing me, I don't care what you planned with Russell, trust me, it won't work. Just stick to your job and we'll be fine." He flung her face to the side and turned to leave, but the next second, he felt his back hit the wall and two slim arms went around his neck.
Audrey brought her face so close to his, their nose almost touching as their breath got mixed up, none wanting to be the first to back down.
The sparks were now exploding in her body, she did not mean for her heart to start beating like crazy, making her want to do things she did not know she was capable of doing. But, she was determined. She looked into his deep grey eyes, hoping she appeared as stern as she imagined herself. She wanted to make her thoughts as clear as the day to him.
Alpha Lake was flawed, no one, absolutely no one had ever taken him unaware, but here she was, doing it so effortlessly. Normally; she would have been pinned to the ground on her belly with her hands behind her back, but he felt no urge to fight her, no matter how he claimed he hated her; he was by all means very relaxed at the moment, happy, even. And that was the dangerous thing about this strange woman, why was he heavily affected by her? He felt drugged.
"Think well, before you speak, Mr. Lake. Don't you think people would say you're the one trying to seduce me? Seeing you followed me to the female restroom. Don't be hypocritical." She enunciated each word without breaking eye contact.
She secretly pleaded with her heart to calm down, it was getting more erratic with her proximity to Alpha Lake, and feeling his breath on her skin was taking things to another level.
Her heart was beating uncontrollably, she feared he would hear it and assume something else, he was an Alpha wolf after all.
She did not want him to realize that being close to him affected her, she did not like the way her body acted funny near him, and her wolf, Avery, was overly excited as she ran around and jumped from one corner to the other in her head, planting evil juicy ideas everywhere.
Alpha Lake saw the truth in what the little woman said but he would never admit defeat to a useless woman and, a human at that. He just relaxed on the wall, unconsciously looking into her eyes, he felt something very familiar about her stare but he pushed the possibility aside.
He suddenly got angry at himself for putting his guard down with her, he swore never to let that happen again.
He would watch her carefully until he found out what she had planned with that cunning boss of hers.
There must be a purpose why Mr. Russell had to send one of his minions to him. He would keep her close and watch every step she took.
"Just stick to your job and we'll be fine." She whispered incredibly close to his ears then calmly walked away.
She high-fived herself in her head for putting up a good cover-up shield.
Alpha Lake watched her walk away, her hips swayed in that sexy gown she wore, and her exposed waistline was calling to him to wrap his arms around it, bend it over and... He angrily shook his head, dismissing those sensual thoughts from his mind.
He gritted his teeth, angry as he watched a person who had just called out his shit walk away, scot-free.
