Audrey froze when she heard Alpha Sebastian call out her name.
She heard his fast-approaching footsteps behind her, and she knew the moment he came to stop directly at her back that things were not going to go as smoothly as she had thought.
She sat still, playing dumb to gauge if she had been busted or if he was just guessing because she still looked a little like her formal self (Okay, it's just the hair that changed...and her physique.) She should have expected this kind of thing to happen. Who was she kidding? Wolves were smart creatures, they could not be easily fooled, and after all, she was still herself, just because she changed her hair color and personality did not mean she changed her whole features.
She had to thread with caution.
"Hello, Mr. Sebastian. This is my secretary, Catherine." Mr. Russell stood from his seat and went over to Alpha Sebastian and shook his hand. Audrey secretly let out a sigh of relief, thanking her boss inside her head for taking her away from the spotlight, he chose to introduce her at the right moment.
Alpha Sebastian stood there, confusion swirling in his mind. The girl sure looked like Audrey, but he did see their distinct differences. He felt a completely different aura from the girl in front of him, and he believed that Audrey would never have had the mind to return to this pack, that is; if she was even alive. He also noticed the girl had a well-defined sexy body and her midnight-black hair looked very rich as it flowed down to her waist.
Audrey had red hair and was slim as a stick. He concluded that this was just someone who looked like her. A clone. He looked over to Alpha Lake and Andrew and shook his head, clarifying to them that it wasn't Audrey. He turned to face the girl who was now standing before him.
"Good evening, Mr. Sebastian." Audrey smiled politely at him.
"I'm sorry about earlier, I mistook you for someone else." He said bashfully. "I get that a lot but that's okay. Nice meeting you." She offered her hand and he shook it enthusiastically.
"Pleasure is mine, Catherine." He held her palm in his for some time before he subtly let go.
"I'm glad you've met each other, it won't be awkward later." Mr. Russell said as he linked Audrey's arm to his.
"We were just about coming to your table. Why not take her with you, ill be with you shortly, nature calls." He pushed Audrey into Sebastian's arms and rushed to the restroom.
Audrey was alert like she knew this would happen. But she still played a damsel in distress, that's how a normal woman would act. She purposely lost her balance and fell into his chest, pretending to be shy about what had just happened. If she was still the girl she was one year ago, she would be swooning by now for being that close to the guy she had a crush on. He was one of the very few that were nice to her. She won't forget that.
As for that asshole, She could feel his piercing gaze burning her sides. She felt the anger emanate from him as he looked at her and she wondered why he was still angry even after Alpha Sebastian had confirmed she was not the person they had thought she was.
'A devil will always be a devil, he hates me and anybody that dares to look like me right? Get ready Lake. This time, it's me who'll be winning.'
She thought to herself, smirking.
Alpha Lake sat there, witnessing everything that had happened. He did not know why he didn't feel happy when Alpha Sebastian told him that the girl was not Audrey.
He felt a little bit disappointed inside, he believed he felt disappointed because he would have loved to punish her more for the sins of her mother, but his wolf did not agree with him, his wolf was sulking at the corner of his head.
'Poor Audrey. I miss her.' Regal complained sadly.
Alpha Lake ignored his wolf and watched her interaction with Alpha Sebastian. He did not miss her! Period.
He didn't care whether it was Audrey or not, he hated anything that would remind him of her, he needed to find his mate and fast, that could not be far away from him, he was sure of that.
He would focus on finding her, instead of thinking about that stupid girl and her useless clone.
He was starting to free his mind of her, but here came a copy of her, to keep reminding him of that ugly witch.
"Lake, this is Catherine, Russell's secretary. Catherine, these are Lake and Andrew." Alpha Sebastian introduced them casually, not wanting to expose they were werewolves.
They all thought Audrey was just a normal girl with a good body and face. Audrey felt the Alpha's eyes bore into her soul like he would get all his answers if he looked deeper into her eyes.
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Lake, Mr. Andrew." She offered Andrew a handshake then Alpha Lake.
Alpha Lake reluctantly took her outstretched hand, the moment their hands touched, Avery threatened to break loose and Audrey retracted her hand immediately.
Alpha Lake was sure he felt something a second before she retracted her hand from his, if not, his wolf would not be uneasy and threatening to break loose.
He was right from the start, the strange girl was indeed hiding something, something did seem off about her.
"Mr. Lake, I see you've met your new secretary. No need for introduction then." Mr. Russell came back from the restroom and stood beside Andrew.
He smiled proudly at Alpha Lake, happy that he kept to his word about helping him find a good replacement for his secretary, he hoped he would start seeing him as a business partner soon.
Andrew stared at Audrey, astonished. He never believed someone could be an exact clone of somebody else.
They all sat around the table, Audrey was made to sit next to Alpha Lake, and he was yet to say something after Mr. Russell introduced Audrey as his Secretary.
Audrey prayed within her for him to accept her, accepting her meant she would be one step toward her goal.
"Allow me to pour everyone, our Company's finest and newest wine, just like the name implies, it's indeed Golden." Alpha Sebastian poured a glittering golden content into their wine glasses.
Audrey felt a little uncomfortable about the name of the wine. Why would he name it 'Gold-rimmed?' She wondered if Alpha Lake had already known about her gold-rimmed wolf and now, he was pretending not to know and was gauging her act by naming his new wine as the description of her wolf.
She shook her head, it was impossible, only her sisters from the Secrete Coven knew about her gold-rimed wolf.
"Don't let me down." Mr. Russell whispered to Audrey. Audrey found it comical because she knew everyone at the table heard him.
"Tomorrow by 6:am." Alpha Lake stood and walked away from them.
"Andrew?" He called without turning back.
"Understood sir," Andrew replied
immediately, leaving everyone confused about what they were talking about.
Audrey excused herself and went to the restroom, and Andrew watched her openly as she walked away.
He wondered if the moon goddess had seen how in love he had been with Audrey and decided to give him an upgraded version of her.
He kept on looking in the direction she went and did not realize when Mr. Russell stood in front of him.
"If you want her, I can give her to you... on one condition." Andrew heard Mr. Russell's sinister voice.
"And what could that be, Russell?" Andrew asked, playing along with the crazy man. He knew he was a psychopath and he wanted to have solid evidence on him.
"How about we discuss this later?" Mr. Russell went back to his seat and drank his wine leisurely.
Andrew just nodded, sharing a meaningful look with Alpha Sebastian.
