As Lewis and I turned to leave, the air thick with tension, Lala's laughter sliced through the silence like a blade, chilling me to the bone. I spun around, my heart pounding in my chest, as he sauntered towards us with a menacing grin.
"Do you know what you've done, stepping back here?" he sneered, his voice dripping with malice.
I exchanged a wary glance with Lewis, a sinking feeling settling in the pit of my stomach. Lala's laughter echoed in my ears as he continued, his words a damning indictment of our past.
"You thought you could escape your sins, Dianne," he taunted, his eyes glittering with dark amusement.
"But the blood of the innocent cries out for justice, and it always finds a way to catch up with you."
My breath caught in my throat as his words washed over me, memories of a past long buried rising to the surface. And then he said it, the accusation that hung between us like a guillotine blade.
