Running through the trees. The dark sky obscured her vision yet the girl's figure rushed forward in haste. Dragging her injured body was hard, blood dyed her face and her clothes. They were all hers, the several cuts on her skin showed where the blood had come from.
She held her breath and her dislocated arm, looking behind her occasionally at the group of men dressed in black giving her a hot chase from behind. In the end, fate got bored of the endless chase. Luck played an accomplice to put the night fiasco to an end. How unfortunate that neither of them were on her side tonight.
Her feet tripped over a tree root. She lost her stance and went tumbling to the ground. Her body rolled on the grassy floor, rolling down the hill till eventually she ended at the edge of the hill. Just an inch from falling down the tip. Perhaps luck had chosen not to kill her at the last second and stopped fmher from falling over.
Her sight blurred. She tried to sit up but her hands and legs refused to respond. Her joint twisted out of place from the fall. The pain of having her limb disconnected was nothing compared to the pain of choking on her own blood. A small broken branch extended out of her chest side like a second hand. In no time her lungs was void of oxygen. Slowly she began to loose her consciousness.
In her blood filled gaze, she saw the men in black surround her on every side. Her heart raced in fear and despair.
Why was this happening to her?
This was supposed to be a perfect night. She was getting engaged to her childhood friend who had just confessed his feelings for her two nights ago. Who would have thought that on her way to her dream engagement, her car would be ambushed, her best lady was shot in the chest right in from of her eyes. Her uncle...
Her pitiful uncle had sacrificed himself to help her escape into the woods. A shot to his head was all she saw before she ran away. In the end she too was about to meet her demise...but for what reason.
"Why do I have to die now?" She muttered weakly. At least she thought it was weak, but the night was quiet so the people surrounding her could hear what she had said.
"Because you have to" A sinister female voice rang out. The crowd of bodyguards parted and a slender young lady walked out from behind them.
Esmeralda squinted her eyes. Blood obscured her vision but after a few coherent blinks she was able to push the blood aside and see the face of the person that had arrived.
Seeing who it was, her heart went cold. "Keisha?!"
"Mmm? You're not dead after all. You can still see me" The pretty young lady said in a spiteful voice.
This felt like a dream to Esme. She wanted to believe it was a dream but people don't feel pain in dreams. The pain slowly swallowing her body quietly hinted her of the reality of the reality she was in at the moment. Still...
"Why?" She asked. A slight tear finding it's way down her eyes.
She had known Keisha since she was a baby. Their mother's were not only sister's but they had also grown up like sisters. It was them against the world. Or was it all in her head? Did she imagine the twenty one years of sisterhood?
"Why are you doing this?" She asked again.
The other girl snorted and turned her face away. Her pearl like eyes that Esme had once known to be filled with love and care was devoid of any human feeling and rather was filled with an undisguised hatred and scorn.
"Because of you my whole life as destroyed!" She yelled in Esmeralda's face. "My family, my mother. They all lost their lives because of you and your heartless mother!"
Esme shook her head "that's not true...how can that be true_"
"What? You think I'm lying?" Keisha scoffed "To protect her stupid legacy, your mother had used my family as a Cannon folder. What sisters? my mother was just a homeless little girl, her family had picked up and trained as a slave and puppet."
"What?_" Esme was shocked by the revelation. Uncertainty took over her face. Of course she didn't believe this girl's words. She had watched how her mother treated this girl's mother. They were like five and six, inseparable and Loving towards each other. To say she was a slave to her mother was a far understatement.
Keisha continued "you don't believe me? I'm not surprised, you've lived in your world as a much protected princess that you couldn't see the truth of the world around you. I stayed by your side all this while knowing you were like the heavens while I would always be the planes far beneath the ground. I wonder why my mother couldn't see this. She thought she was equal with your mother, she deceived herself that she was special to your senile grandparents but in the end, they gave her a mission that was equivalent to her death. I begged her, I pleaded with her to not go but she was determined not to disappoint your mother. As a result she died and all they could give me as compensation was a stupid rusty cabin? Why?! Why should I be content with a stupid house when you get the title, fame, power and authority under your name. I should get something better!" She roared and stomped towards Esmeralda. Her feet Ross and stepped into one of her dislocated legs.
"Argh!" Esmeralda shouted at the top of her lungs. The pain shot into her brain like cocaine.
"I waited 15 years for this, to tear you and your family down completely. Killing your mother was not enough for me espeywhen you were there to carry on the family's name. I wanted you gone and eventually my patience has finally paid off" Relenting she took her foot off esmeralda's leg and walked back to the guards. One of them came forward and wrapped a furry coat around her shoulder.
Esme looked at her. Resentment rose in her heart.
She killed her mother?
Remembering how her mother got weaker and weaker each day, slowly losing her vitality till she could no longer keep her heart beating. The resentment rose even further and turned to anger.
"You wench!" She yelled with all her might.
Keisha laughed "save that name for your mother who had a child out of wedlock and boldly used her family's name to force her lover into marrying her"
Her eyes flung open. What did this mean? She wasn't her father's daughter?
"That_" she couldn't even refute the statement. Her father's attitude towards her in the past seven years really proved that he hated her for reasons she did not know. She had thought he could not deal with her mother's death and thus pushed her away since she was a splitting image of her mother. Even when he had brought a strange woman back and declared her and her daughter his family, she had said nothing and waited at the sidelines quietly hoping that one day he woutooen up to her again but it was all a lie? She wasn't his daughter after all.
