Chapter 46 - Ancient God (Spirit King Excerpt)

January 14, 2022

Words: Pyramid

Hidden buried underneath the dunes of Spikinsle, spared from the hellish heat above, was an ominous structure forgotten in time. Hiding inside a cave tangled with twists and turns, a massive pyramid stood firm despite the passage of time illuminated by luminescent insects and the shine of moss and fungi.

Legends say that ancient treasures are locked away within the structure. In truth, the only treasure protected by the spirits guarding the pyramid was the tomb of a legendary warrior and his mighty sword.

The legendary warrior, lost in history, was once revered as the God of War. Although the man himself never truly gleaned for war between formidable forces of Spikinsles, he yearned to perish to the hands of a worthy opponent. He was a warrior in both heart and soul. Regrettably, he did not achieve his wish and died by the inevitable end of his lifetime.

A pyramid was made in respect for the warrior. The structure was constructed by his devoted followers, who admired the warrior's resolve from afar. It was made with smooth limestone and ancient materials that are not used in the present.

Unfortunately, over time, the pyramid was buried in sand. The spirits who served the warrior reconstructed the surroundings into a convoluted cave. Intruders would be confused while allowing travellers to visit the revered God of War.

His sword was guarded by the spirits. The blade emanated with their power, a power enough to even challenge the gods above. The spirits believed that the blade should be passed down to a being far more impressive than their master. Centuries passed and yet, the spirits remained dedicated to their deceased master.

Alas, the time had come.

There was a man in search of a weapon that would aid him to defeat unworthy gods. When he set foot inside the ruins, the warrior's loyal spirits felt his presence. As soon as the man stood upon the entrance of the ancient structure, the entrance that cannot be opened welcomed him with open arms. Upon the sight of the man, the spirits were overwhelmed by the immeasurable amount of spirits that served him.

The spirit king came to plunder the god slaying blade.
