Chapter 11 - An extra's story; determination of a warrior

Two days before the war....

The sun was emitting a redish-hue that gave a soft glow to every surface it's rays touched, the beautiful scenery of the setting sun that the elves would gather together to watch, where children would play and the adults bicker playfully with one another ,was now quiet and void of people, there were barely anyone out and about.

With the announcements of the upcoming war,the citizens of the elven kingdom, those who couldn't contribute to the battle in anyway, were given the order to pack their most valuable possessions in a small scale and head to a secret safe location where they could be safe from the vice of war and a way of escape if the worst indeed happened. The younger adolescent elves on the other hand refused to escape like refugees and volunteered to fight for the kingdom, afterall they couldn't just stay hidden and watch from the sidelines as their 'loved ones' went to war on their behalf, the hot blooded ones chose to stayback and fight with the thought that 'if the empress herself would be fighting instead of escaping,we would fight alongside our ruler' . With that, most of the elves at the early adulthood joined the war, helping with whatever role each were given.

In a small house not far from the town square, was a woman who stood at the entrance to her home. The woman looked to be in her prime even though that wasn't the case, the elves in general had longer life span than that of the typical normal human. Well past the age of fifty, she looked like a woman at the ripe age for motherhood even though she already had a son of 'above twenty years'. Lines appeared on her forehead as she was anxiously looking about, she was obviously waiting for someone or something.

"We need to leave now Reina" a voice said from the innermost room. "He would have been here earlier if he wished to see you.....at least for the last time " the voice continued with a harsh tone.

"My son won't just leave without saying anything to me,he would definitely come, leave if you want, I'll wait a little more..." She said back in lowered tone, hoping that her words were indeed true but history said otherwise. Reina was a normal woman with a handwork of making pots and other household items, though with little income, she was living a simple and fulfilling life, the man with the harsh tone was her husband,a strict man who valued principles and was reliable in every sense of the word. He was an old man who worked in his own little workshop as a tailor. The couple were late in giving birth but they eventually had a son...a son who was extremely stubborn and did whatever he wanted even from small.

They were supposed to head to the dedicated safe location as ordered by the Empress herself, but as they were packing, their son all of a sudden decided to join in the war and fight for the race. Normally, the parents were to be proud of their child for making such a big decision only that....the son chose to do this for different reasons, and what better reason than to rebel against his own father.

Elroy was a rebellious child from small, from seeking trouble with other kids,to making large decisions especially when warned against that particular order. This made he and his father not see eye to eye on any issue no matter how small it was,it always ended in a big disagreement. This was to be expected as the father was a man of principles and son was....otherwise.

"He didn't even listen to your pleas, sneaking out to join the army,he won't be returning, not until he lost an arm or a leg" Argon's tone became even more chilly.

"Isn't it your fault!,you had to scold him every now and then,do you even love him any bit?" Reina said even more sad that the father wasn't showing the least bit concern towards their son.

"I clearly told him not to think about joining the battle just because others were doing so,that rascal just as usual wanted to prove himself unnecessaryly, and for what.., JUST TO PROVE ME WRONG!,that selfish bastard, always thinking only about himself...." The man couldn't help but shout in anger as he packed the last of their little luggages. "we need to leave now Reina,if he has joined the battle legion,we can't force him....."

Just then they both looked out the door to see a silhouette approaching their house,at first they thought it was a watchman who enforced the order their Empress gave for the immigration, but then...the closer this person got,the more familiar they became.

"Elroy!" Reina couldn't help but be overjoyed, her only son wouldn't just run from home and take a large responsibility without her consent....no matter how rebellious he acted,he was still her child afterall. Running towards the 'once looking stubborn child now dressed as a militiaman ' the mother didn't care if she startled other people at all,not that there were anyone around.

WHOMPF!

The mother pulled the young sturdy man into a bear hug that was so tight Elroy had to gasp for air. The mother being emotional was expected of him but this much strength....it was surprisingly overwhelming. "Mom..." he muttered in a low voice,he must have made her worry alot even before the real battle in two days time.

"I'm sorry for going ahead with this without your blessings mom" he said in pained voice knowing well how much she cared for him...her only child.

"It's okay, you're here now right?, there's nothing to worry about, we'll leave here together-"

"I can't mom,.... I'm really sorry,I can't go back with you..look" separating from her briefly,he showed off his new attire, the cloth was skin tight to a comfortable degree allowing fluid movement without any disturbance, with little armor covering vital spots and on the center around the chest area was the elven kingdom's insignia along with an additional bow and arrow symbol. He was able to successfully join the ' archery legion'. Both the mother and the silent father's heart skipped a beat...'He was able to pass that absurd test?'
