My eyes roamed the busy ship. I'd been at it for hours now, showing the sketch of the suspect to anyone who looked like they might know something. Yet, one by one, all the passengers responded in the same disinterested or apologetic tones. The steady rhythm of their denials was starting to wear on me

"Uhhhh, no. Sorry," came the reply of another group of passengers as they hurried past me, eager to return to their vacation routines

I sighed and ran a hand through my short-cropped hair. This cruise ship, with its endless array of decks, restaurants, bars, and lounges, was turning into a maze of dead ends. Every question met with a shake of the head. It was frustrating 

"Hey" Laura called as we met up "Any leads?"

"No. You?"

"Same. I've got nothing. Everyone I've shown the sketch claims not to know anything. Maybe we should take a break," Laura suggested.
