Chapter 15 - SHARED TEAMWORK

"Yue er, do you want to join my car?" Xin Lang asked his sister as they prepared to leave. Xin Yue had her own plans after the presentation and shook her head.

"Chang Yi will drive my car; I have plans afterward. We'll meet at Jin Yuen Office," Xin Yue stated, firmly grasping Chang Yi's hand. With a flustered expression, Chang Yi followed Xin Yue's lead.

"Yue er, why were you so subtle in front of Xin Lang?" Chang Yi asked, feeling uneasy as Xin Yue held her hand tightly.

"I know him. If anyone captures his attention, he'll do his best to pursue her. I just wanted him to understand that you're mine. Don't you see?" Xin Yue explained, her tone determined.

Chang Yi responded slowly, gently caressing Xin Yue's back in an attempt to calm her. "I think he was just being polite and practical since we're going to the same place, right?"

Xin Yue's gaze sharpened as she looked at Chang Yi, sensing her lover's emotions. Chang Yi embraced her, trying to soothe her worries with a comforting hug.

At last, the three of them arrived at Jin Yuen Office and began preparing their presentations. As predicted, Xin Yue smoothly delivered her presentation, leaving Jin Hao, the chairman of the company, impressed. He even jokingly suggested that Xin Yue work at Jin Yuen as a COO rather than in her own company.

"Ms. Xin, I think I should create an office over here to make it easier for you with this project, and you can help me with matters at hand as well. What do you think, Mr. Xin?" Jin Hao teased, a playful glint in his eyes.

"Haha, I don't think you can handle Xin Yue's stubbornness, Mr. Jin. She can be hard to please when it comes to work. Let me ease your burden by keeping her under my wing," Xin Lang joked, winking at Jin Hao.

Xin Yue felt a sense of familiarity talking with Mr. Jin Hao, similar to the conversations she used to have with her own grandfather, who had passed away. "You better listen to what my brother said, Mr. Jin. Even he can't handle my head that well, despite us working together for so long. But I guarantee you, that's what got us to where we are now," Xin Yue said proudly.

Seeing Xin Yue so happy, Chang Yi couldn't help but smile, feeling grateful for this moment of joy and success.

As the knock echoed through the room, Chang Yi hurriedly tidied up the documents, her focus interrupted. When Mr. Jin's acolyte entered, Chang Yi's heart skipped a beat. She raised her head quickly, her eyes meeting the familiar gaze of the woman before her. Their eyes locked, a silent exchange of recognition passing between them. Chang Yi's heart sank as she saw the pain reflected in the woman's eyes.

Meanwhile, Mr. Jin and Xin Lang remained oblivious to the tension in the room, focused on their discussion. However, Xin Yue noticed Chang Yi's sudden stiffness and glanced sharply between the two women. "Ah, Ms. Xin, this is Ms. Wei Han," Mr. Jin introduced. "She will be assisting me with the budgeting plans and expansion for this project."

Xin Yue extended her hand to Wei Han with a polite smile. "Nice to meet you, Ms. Wei. I'm Xin Yue, the COO of my company. I believe we'll have a good collaboration for the success of Jin Yue Mall." Wei Han, her head spinning with emotions, reciprocated the handshake, struggling to maintain her composure in Chang Yi's presence.

Mr. Jin expressed his excitement about the upcoming project and Xin Lang nodded gratefully, his eyes reflecting his appreciation for Mr. Jin's trust in their company. He shook Mr. Jin's hand with both of his own, a gesture of respect and gratitude.

Beside Mr. Jin, Wei Han seemed visibly uncomfortable, her eyes darting nervously between Chang Yi and Xin Yue. She remained silent, unsure of how to react in Chang Yi's presence. When Mr. Jin mentioned another meeting, Wei Han's lips pressed together tightly, her expression unreadable as she stood beside him.

With Mr. Jin's departure, Wei Han was left with no choice but to accompany Xin Lang and the others downstairs. Xin Lang, oblivious to the tension in the air, engaged Wei Han in small talk along the way. Despite his attempts at polite conversation, Wei Han's responses were polite but distant, her mind clearly preoccupied with other thoughts.

Xin Yue's heart clenched with jealousy as she observed Chang Yi and Wei Han together. Despite her desire to stay close to her love, she recognized that they needed a moment alone to talk. Suppressing her unease, she suggested that she want to use the restroom, providing them with an opportunity to catch up.

As Chang Yi and Wei Han left together, the tension between them was palpable. Chang Yi broke the silence by cautiously asking, "How are you, A Han?" Her eyes reflected a mix of longing and pain.

Wei Han, avoiding Chang Yi's gaze, replied curtly, "I am good," before lapsing into an awkward silence.

Unable to contain her emotions, Wei Han finally blurted out, "Is she your girlfriend now? How dare you to have one."

Chang Yi chose not to respond to Wei Han's accusation and instead inquired about her family. Wei Han's face flushed with emotion as she revealed the hardships her family had endured.

Feeling a pang of guilt, Chang Yi reached out to grasp Wei Han's arm, apologizing sincerely for the pain she had caused. Wei Han's heart raced at the sound of her name on Chang Yi's lips as she pulled away, acknowledging the apology with a nod before walking away, leaving Chang Yi staring after her.

Xin Yue, who had been observing from a distance, couldn't help but wonder about the complexity of Chang Yi and Wei Han's relationship, uncertain of the full extent of their history.

She wondered if there was still a chance for reconciliation between those two persons, or if the wounds were too deep to heal. Xin Yue felt a pang of sadness for both Chang Yi and Wei Han, knowing that their bond had been strained by misunderstandings and unspoken feelings.

As she watched Wei Han walk away, Xin Yue couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to their story than met the eye. She made a mental note to reach out to Chang Yi later and offer her support, hoping that maybe, just maybe, they could find a way to heal her lover broken heart.
