Chapter 57: The Silhouette
A new approach had taken hold of Aubrey's heart—an approach of kindness and gentleness. Each day, she would scoop Kenneth up in her arms, whispering sweet nothings and cooing to him, and he would giggle with delight, his little face creased in a smile.
She had resolved to take good care of him, from bathing him to feeding him, and even taking him on little walks. And slowly but surely, Kenneth's trust in her began to grow.
"You are growing more fond of the baby," Enzo seethed, his words laced with jealousy as he watched Aubrey dote on the young Kenneth.
Aubrey, her heart still encased in a layer of ice, was quick to shrug off his concern. "It's only a matter of strategy," she hissed, her eyes never leaving the giggling child. "The more he trusts me, the more vulnerable he becomes." She thought.
