Chapter 41: Selfish Desires
"Do you have a son?" Zana asked, his eyes darting back and forth.
"A son?" Kiara stammered, placing her hand over her mouth. She seemed to be trying to remember something, but it was as if her mind was a blank slate.
"Yes," Zana said, his tone urgent. He needed to find out what was going on.
"No," Kiara said, her voice shaking. "I don't have a son." Zana's heart sank in joy.
A feeling of relief washed over Zana as he heard her answer. She wasn't the mother of any little boy, so that means she can be his mother for life.
"What's your name?" Kiara asked, her eyes locked on Zana's face. It was like she was searching for something there, something she couldn't quite grasp.
"My name is Zana," he said, his voice soft.
"How old are you?" she asked, her gaze unwavering. Zana smiled broadly. "I'm five years old," he said, his voice full of pride.
