Chapter 1: Glitz
9 pm, Classics Hotel.
"You seemed to have gained a bit of weight Lily. How did you do that?"
"Oh, I really think that she lost weight."
"No, You look thick!"
Voices sounded from all over as Lily could only smile, acknowledging every single individual present.
This was it, so annoying, she thought, keeping up with the fake smile on her face.
"Give me a second!" She said, excluding herself to go to the bathroom.
Lily walked the way through the passage with a heavy heart as she wondered when all of these judgments carried out against her would stop for good.
Slowing down, she walked carefully so she wouldn't get noticed.
Reka was then coming towards Lily, seeing as Lily was coming closer and looked like she was in an absentminded state, she bumped into her with full force.
That was no surprise for Lily as she dodged it, splashing her drink right all over Reka's face, she had long been used to schemes like this.
"Ahhhhhh!" Reka screamed in fright. She didn't expect that Lily would see through that. She had really underestimated her.
Lily had always hated bullies. Whenever she found one, she would be sure to put them in their places.
Looking at her, "Hope we're good to go now!" She asked with a slight smile on her face.
"Lily you..."
"You what? That serves you right. When next you see my boss, be sure to be careful." Jane said appearing from nowhere.
"You..."Reka almost spat out blood.
"Just let her be," Lily said as she turned and went towards the upper part of the building.
"Everyone keeps ruining my mood." She said to herself.
Lily stood at the top of the building as she stared into the city. She was at the heart of the city, Times Square, the largest and most influential American metropolis, the most populous and the most international city in the country.
From the rooftop of the hotel building, she could picture the whole of New York City as she watched the scenery. New York is known for its towering skyscrapers, famous districts, and endless energy. From baseball and pizzas to Times Square to yellow cabs, there's a lot to explore in the Big Apple. Amongst the metropolitan boroughs, New York is also famous for its nature including Thousand Island and Finger Lake regions. From where she stood, she admired the sight of it all.
"Can I have my phone?" She said to her loyal assistant who never left her side
"Yes ma'am." bringing out the phone from Lily's purse, she handed it over to her. Smiling she took some pictures of the scenery while she sipped her wine beautifully.
William sat on a large couch inside the luxurious building as he admired the beautiful damsel that stood at the balcony seeming unbothered with the judging sights all over.
Seeing as she was taking pictures, he smiled as he looked at her deeply.
There was something about her that made her so exceptional.
The confidence that she wore and her voice added cheer to the most dreary moment. Her skin looks so soft and white. Her hair was long as it curled down to her waist. She looks great every single time he sees her. Admiring every inch of her, he took out his phone and took a few pictures of her drawing the attention of a few people who wondered why he would take pictures of her. It could be because she was from an influential background, they thought, minding their business.
"Lovely is such an understatement for the perfection that is you, Lily!" He said as he soaked himself in the adornment of her. She needed no much makeup. She was already so naturally beautiful even as the touchups on her face were so light.
Standing up, he tried to head towards her direction.
"Boss! I think grandfather wants to speak with you." Jane's voice sounded, as she handed another phone over to Lily.
Distracted, he knew this would not be the right time. He needed more patience, he thought.
"Lily where are you right now, and why haven't you been picking up your calls?" Grandfather's concerned tone came through immediately when she picked up the phone.
"I decided to join the meeting tonight, so I could make more deals if possible."
"You make deals daily dear. You know just how much I am proud of you dear."
"Grandfather,..."
"Lily listen, you know the situation the family is in right now. I really think you should slow down, it is for your mental health."
"Grandfather, the deal with Zale corporation was already on before we all got into this situation."
"Where are you? I will come pick you up."
"You don't have to stress yourself out grandfather. I will come home right away."
"Alright, dear!"
Lily hung up the phone in her hands as the sadness in her heart grew. That's all she could do. Act strong.
Inside Lily's heart was in a state of melancholy as she held it like trying to protect it from falling out.
She hated this conversation. It reminded her of her most painful loss.
She felt that headache kicking in. She had to massage her chest for a while before taking it up to her forehead.
"Why did you go? Why so soon?" She whispered to herself sadly. He had left her with a heavy heart. Who was going to cure her of this? She thought. She wasn't sure of how she was going to come out of this.
"Boss, you need to rest. I will help you to the car." Jane said appearing stronger. She could feel Lily's pain. Her boss had gone through a lot already, despite her young age.
Forcing out a bitter smile, "I'm fine Jane. We should leave now." Lily said as her heart softened. At least someone cares. She then took in a deep breath and left the rooftop, entering the elevator under everyone's gaze.
Immediately the door to the elevator closed, Lily fainted.
