"Oh, so you are going to be the boss's sister-in-law?" their eyes widened with admiration, jealousy, and imagination.
"No wonder the boss treated you so well. I always thought he was biased." another secretary added, making Eve frown. She did not remember being treated special. But the women speak as if Cedric was pampering her.
But it did not cross their mind even once that she could be in the photograph. She shook her head and looked at the screen again when one employee came forward and placed a file on her table.
"Boss had asked you to check the data and report to him in half an hour." Eve frowned as she looked at the file and then at the clock.
This project was with Sharon, not her and it will be lunch in fifty minutes. If she went to discuss it after half an hour, she would miss lunch for sure. But more than that, she did not want to see his face. She had already given him divorce papers. What else did he want? After the events of the morning. He had shifted work from home to the office too and now he wanted to.
She looked at the file with misty eyes. The first two points were noticed by other staff too. And the look in her eyes was grieving.
"Oh, do not be so disheartened, if you missed lunch, we will bring something for you to eat later." She looked at their worried faces and smiled gratefully.
However, she was not closer to them because she was afraid that her secret would be out. The staff here had been kind to her. They always support her and help her. Perhaps knowing her as one of them helped. If they had known about her identity, they would have treated her like her house staff. She shook her head and opened the file.
Half an hour passed in a moment. She stood up and dragged herself toward the door. Her eyes were already burning but she told herself that she was not going to cry in front of him. So, when she opened the door, her face was cold again.
"You are finally here." she flinched at the cold voice. He only spoke like that when he was truly angry. In their long marriage, he had never spoken to her like that. But she had seen him speaking like that with his distant relative and that was the last time she had seen that woman. She still did not know what she had done but she was gone for good.
She gulped her saliva and took hasty steps toward the table.
"I apologize, sir, I have been told to enter after half an hour only. If I had known.." but before she could speak, he stood up from his table. His one hand opened the buttons of his suit while his other hand grabbed her arms in one swift motion.
She yelped and the file fell to the ground. Her eyes widened and snapped toward the door. But it was tightly closed. Windows were curtained and… she was alone with him here. She gulped again.
His eyes were so cold and his touch was so rough.
"I.. sir.."
"Stop it. Will you?" she forgot to speak, forgot to breathe. He looked like he wanted to devour her soul at once. Could it be that Elene had refused to divorce so he was planning to kill her?
"Cedric.." she called for him. But he pinched her hard as if telling her she was not allowed to speak and he would not bear disobedience again. She was shocked by his actions and in the next moment he took her lips.
Her eyes widened by the development. Her hands moved to his chest and she pushed him. But he was strong and sturdy. He had been to the gym every single day and worked on his abs.
