"Eve.." Eve closed her eyes and tried. It was difficult to smile today. "Look at your face, what happened to you? Are you still facing a hangover?" David looked at his good-for-nothing daughter and regretted saying he did not care whom Cedric would choose.
This one is just too foolish. He quickly strides toward Eve when she does not turn to meet his eyes.
"We both are already out of the building. Why are you ignoring me then? No one would recognize us here." he spat with rage. To think that his daughter did not want to recognize him publicly had already given him a sense of humiliation. But he had always consoled him that no one knew she was Cedric's wife too. This woman was utterly foolish not to claim her place.
"Because of your privacy to live freely, so many women had been in the arms of your husband and had flirted with him in front of you." his voice went cold and he looked at her disgusted as if he was ashamed of her presence.
Eve had left the building thinking that Cedric would be busy with her father. She had applied for half-day leave so that she could rest and clear her mind but who would have thought her luck was so bad?
How many daughters would be there who felt hurt just by looking at their father?
"Father.." she forced a smile on her face, "I mean Dad, how are you?"
"Tch. You are talking like we are strangers. Where are you going?" he noticed the bag in her hands but Cedric was not there.
"I… I was planning to.."
"If you are taking leave, come with me. You have not visited home to meet your sister."He took a step forward, sure that she would follow him. But Eve did not. She did not want to meet her sister again. She did not want to blame Elene but hell, her heart wanted to rip that woman apart.
When David did not hear footsteps behind him, he frowned "Are you so cold that you do not care about your family at all?" his voice went harsher as he held her arm and started dragging her with him.
"Do not make the scene in public as if I am forcing you to come to your own home, Eve. It is degrading. Just because you are the wife of a rich man, you look down on us so much." Eve hissed in pain as his nails dug into her skin. She was already under the weather and now this.
"Dad, you are hurting me. Let me go." she whispered but the man did not listen. "Dad, let go." She struggled this time getting the attention of many in the parking lot.
They looked at her in concern. David noticed that he was being misunderstood. His eyes went cold at once and he pushed her away.
"You.. they did not know who you were!" he felt his chest heaving with rage. Just now, a woman like him was forcing a young woman into his car. "Do you want to end my career with your viciousness?" he spat but Eve did not hear him. She rubbed her injured hands and sighed.
Her mind was a mess. She should go and sleep. She needed time to collect her thoughts. David fumed when she ignored him again. She should have been begging him to forgive her.
"Eve, you will regret your actions. If you think that we are too poor for your care, then you will regret it badly. Cedric still loves Elene. He can abandon an arrogant woman like you anytime and when that happens, do not dare to return home." he pointed at her and spoke in a low voice but she knew how raging her father was.
He was only making sure that no one would hear them. But the cold threat left her in a cold sweat.
David did not wait for her reply. He already had enough humiliation. He entered the car and it sped away. Eve stood there alone in the parking lot. The guards were staring at her with concern. She knew what they had thought about it.
But she did not have the strength to explain them. Not that explaining would help. She wiped her tears and went to her car. But she did not feel like driving it. She sat inside for a long time and stared at the distance.
"Miss Winhart, if you are not feeling well, shall I call a cab for you?" the guard finally came to her and asked in a low voice. He looked worried. "Or my son is here, he can drive for you. You live near a university right?" She remembered the guard. They both had been appointed the same day.
That day, he had asked about her, and she had given him the address of her own house. One she had brought on loan. She was not even sure why she had brought it since she never went to live there.
But now that he mentioned it, "my son is returning for his classes there. It would benefit both of you." he added but she knew he was only caring. The man had always smiled at her and treated her like his daughter.
"Thank you, that would be helpful." his smile broadened and he waved for his son.
"Noting to mention it. You should take care of yourself. You know our boss is a righteous man. Not like other rich men. So, if you are facing trouble with any client, you should talk to him. I am sure he will help you. He would help anyone. But he is close to you, miss Winhart." Before she could ask what he meant, a young man ran to them. He was wearing a white shirt with blue jeans and had headphones around his neck. He smiled at her and then glared at his father.
"Come on, kid. I have arranged a big car for your commuting, you should be thankful." The man patted the shoulders of his son affectionately that made Eve's eyes dimmer.
If her father had smiled like that. Would anyone have misunderstood their relationship?"
