Cedric was long gone for his work while Eve sat in their large bed and opened her email. There used to be a long list of invitations and role offers for her in the past. But now, as she scrolled down, she only found a handful one. Her eyes stopped on the Clestermier Gems brand ambassador role offer. They had still not accepted Cedric's rejection and they wanted her to reply in person.
They had given her one more week to consider the offer and reply. If she accepted it, she was invited to their New York office for negotiation. Eve closed her eyes. The ringing of the phone startled her for a second but her eyes narrowed when she read the name on the screen. It was her sister. She had not contacted Eve since she had returned. They told her she still needed time to adjust in their life. But she had already attended a meeting and signed a deal with her husband. Ha!
She stared at the screen with a conflicted gaze until it stopped blinking. She closed her eyes again. But the phone rang again and this time it was her mother's number showing on the screen.
Eve realized it was not going to end. The only way is to get over it. Taking a deep breath, she picked up the call.
"Hello."
"Eve, how can you ignore your sister? Do you have no bonding for the family at all? Or is it because you are the rich madame of the Weildmer family that we did not mean anything to you. Hmmm?" Her mother's raging voice almost burst her eardrums. She kept the cell away from her ears for two more minutes before bringing it to her ears again.
"Tell me, why are you silent now? Are you finally regretting your selfish actions?" yes! She had always been selfish because she had refused her mother to steal the jewels from Cedric's house or buy extravagant gifts on her birthdays.
Eve had never purchased something expensive for herself. How could she do it for her mother? Cedric had always been kind and had given her a black card. But her mother-in-law takes her as a greedy woman so she never dared to spend extravagantly.
But still, she had many expensive things. She had a closet full of jewels that Cedric had brought her. He always brought her a gift no matter where he went and for how many days. She had always taken this as a gesture of his love for her. But now.
"Eve!" her mother's shrill voice brought her back to the present and she sucked in a deep breath. For two days she was lost in her past too much.
"Mother, I was in the washroom. The moment I returned I saw your call. I did not notice his sister called me. How is she now?" The words appeased her mother instantly and her voice went normal.
"Oh, so it was just a misunderstanding. I knew Eve, you would not ignore your sister. After all, she had been in a coma for two years without us knowing. Though Cedric had paid all the bills claimed by the hospital. She is still too sick to be ignored, she needs a lot of love and attention so be nice to her. Okay?" When Eve smiled and replied affirmatively, Diana Wanhart passed the phone to her daughter.
"Hello, Eve. I hope I am not disturbing you." The voice was so sweet and gentle that it could create a ripple of happiness in the mind of the listener. But Eve only felt gloomy for some reason.
"Not at all, sister. I wanted to talk to you the day you returned but Mother told me you are still disoriented. How are you feeling now? I hope you are prepared for the party tomorrow." Eve forced the best voice she could. She held her dress tightly in her other hand.
"Ah, about that. You know Eve. It has been a long time since I have been to the hospital. All my old dresses do not fit me anymore. I have lost so much weight and.." so she only wanted a new dress. The thought somehow relieved Eve. "Father is always too miser when it comes to spending money on appearances. Haha. you know better than me now." Eve smiled too. She had missed this simple conversation with her family.
Perhaps she was too nervous. Too lost in holding Cedric tightly in her grip. She knew that Cedric wanted to marry her sister. She had only chosen him because he believed that she had died in that accident. It was not her sister's mistake. It was hers!
"Yes, I know. I remember how he refused to pay my fees when I entered college because he thought I would not clear the exam anyway." which was strange. Because she was a bright student. Yet, her father was always so sure that she was going to fail.
"Yes. I remember. We have cried tons to convince him." Eve heard a deep sigh on the other end and took it as a longing. She wanted to say something sweet. That she was there and Elene could come to her any moment. "These words slipped from my lips when I was in a meeting with Cedric earlier. I do not know Eve but I ended up telling him and he took me shopping. He brought me tons of dresses, not just one. All that time, I was in a daze as she brought jewels for me that I could not refuse. He even remembered my favorite brands and the colors I used to like.
Even if I did, he did not listen to me, and now it feels strange to sit in a house full of expensive gifts, Eve. I do not know what to say and how to react. So, I thought it would be better to inform you and ask for your advice." the voice went silent, probably waiting for Eve to respond. But how? How should she respond to that? Her husband had always brought her gifts. But it was just one or two. And sometimes they were too random. But for Elene. "If you want, I can send all those things to you. After all, you are his wife now."
