Chapter 29 - Box's Words

"You don't know that," Levi said, doubting Box's words.

"Maybe I don't," Box replied, picking up a stone and skipping it across the little pool of water. "Maybe I do, but it's the truth."

Box continued, "But what would be good for us is finding a way out of here before Robert gets tired of waiting."

Levi squinted his eyes in confusion. He noticed he had started to feel his legs a little and he was getting better. "Why should he get tired of waiting?"

Box laid a short glance on Levi, before returning to his little game. He searched the ground for a perfect pebble to skip. "Have you wondered why we all academics are never allowed to leave the institution unless on occasions like this?"

Levi only stared. Yes, he has wondered about that, he has wondered about a lot of things to the new place he woke up to. Itching for answers, Levi beckoned on Box to continue.

"We are like assets to them. They wouldn't want their assets roaming the four wings freely and using our abilities to commit all sorts of practices. So, they put a spall in our heads, you don't know about that?"

Levi nodded, but of course he knew about it. The second thing Director Robert had threatened him with after the raeger.

Levi pondered on Box's words, it made a lot of sense to him. What was the true agenda of The Academy? They wouldn't just go around, finding teenagers with special abilities, feeding and catering for them just for charity sake, right?

Levi imagined the hundreds of academics on surgical beds, surrounded by doctors with masks, about to fix the tiny object in their brains. It was an awful thought, knowing that a lot of lives are at the sake of a simple button. Shivers zigzagged down his spine as he realised his head could be blown into pieces any moment from now. Unfortunately for him, Lexi says she can't do anything about it.

"I bet the only thing keeping him is the two last golden academics with us, Robert wouldn't want to loose them," Box added.

Levi looked at Box and scrutinised him. You could never tell his emotion, he talked firmly and yet his words featured anger. Levi wished he could be that way, to be able to show which emotion he wants to at any given point in time.

He thought of asking Box about his origin and how he came to be in The Academy, but he hushed the thought. Someone that doesn't want to publicize his real name would definitely have nothing to say to his questions.

Levi took another look round the cave, it was taking a reddish-orange colour. He wondered how Abby was fairing and yeah, Brody too. He didn't think too much about Nate and Jamie, they were goldens after all.

The spot where he and Box camped was quite large, it gave them a safe feeling. But one could see darker spaces, leading to unknown voids of the South Wing.

Levi looked at his body, his bruises were healing up extraordinarily. His legs were taking back shape and he could feel himself whole, little by little.

Levi noticed Box was staring at the wonderful feat. The outstanding blue veins surfaced over the bruises and wounds, healing it with a burning effect. Box nodded and went back to his skipping. "How long has the voice been in your head?"

[Covalence completed]

[Full health restored]

Levi raised himself to his feet and dusted the dirt off his bunt uniform. "Since the day we fought," Levi replied, rushing to the little pool of water.

Without hesitation, he dipped his palms into the water and took a huge gulp. Blech!

Levi tried to gag out the large amount of water he had already drank. He looked up at Box with his eyes wide. "What the fuck?! What is this?!"

Box folded his arms, leaning to the walls of the cave. "Did you think that the water in the South Wing would taste alright?"

[You could've just asked for an artificial rehydration, Levi]

"Well you didn't tell me that was possible!" Levi hissed.

Box started to walk towards the dark, with his hands in his pockets.

Levi furrowed his brows in confusion and called out. "Where are you going?" He asked.

Box turned around, "Well, you wouldn't wait here expecting some miracle to happen would you? Remember, our heads are ticking." He resumed his movement and litted another ball of fire above his hand as he approached the dark.

Levi stood contemplating, he hoped some miracle would happen. Loras is dead! Who knows what lies beyond that dark. And how would he protect himself now he can't merge with Lexi until after a while?

"You can't just go in there where no one has ever been, you don't know what awaits!" Levi yelled.

Box turned again, almost shadowed by the dark. "Do you know why the South Wing was nicknamed The Cavern?"

Levi shook his head slowly, "No."

Box spread one arm, presenting the cave. "The South Wing used to be abundant in Meetegen, the underground caves where the site for the mining. Now, there's no Meetegen left. And who knows what...." Box continued to say, turning around and walking into the dark, his voice trailing off with an echo.

Levi quickly dashed to where Box had disappeared into. He knows a lot that he isn't telling and Levi knew it.
