They all watched him like he grew a head. Even the people of interest was surprise by his relax behavior and easy acceptance. As much Mr. Briar appear as a calculative man, Eva knew he won't take a decision who was against the benefit of his son even if profitable to the company as a whole.
His wife shot him a glare not amused a bit by his words. It was their son future they were talking about. She has always appreciated Eva but she can't let her enter her family in such a way. Not when there weren't only absence of love between the two but also hate.
"Why are you so against? Let them be. They are choosing to get marry let them make their own choice. They know what they are doing."
"I don't think so," she was doubtful.
"You don't have to worry," he comforted his wife and turned to Eva, "you know you have always be my first choice to be my son wife but given your relationship I thought Elsa will be the best choice. I didn't know about your share but as Klaus explained that alone made you a better perfect candidate than your sister. If you really want to enter out family, you are welcome," it was the same either way for him but at least Eva was his son choice.
"This can't be! Elsa is the one supposed to enter the family,"
"Sorry mother but it's either you let our marriage go or you can give up on any form of link with the family,"
"We agree," Nathan accepted. "We will let you guys get marry," her father acceptance without a resistance weary Eva who eyed him strangely, waiting for him to add something but nothing came. It was a huge surprise and relief for Eva, she wouldn't have to argue about it anymore.
"It's set then. We will set a date for the marriage,"
"The earlier the better, to be over all of this as soon as possible," Eva said.
"I agree. The sooner the better" Klaus agreed.
"Are you sure? Let set it in a month for you to think this through and have time to change your mind," Mrs. Briar said still not convince. It was still not understandable to her. To no one it was.
"No. I want it to be done this Saturday," Klaus said.
"That leave us with less than a week to have everything done,"
"It don't have to be something grand,"
"Of course it will. My only son is getting marry. It should be as big as possible and a week isn't sufficient to have it ready,"
"Then have it reduce or have it be set for next Saturday then. Any objection?" he asked Eva.
"Not on my part"
"It's set then," he crossed his leg. His gesture made every mouth shut, it meant no further word in the subject as the decision was already been made, no other objection will be accepted.
"Since I have nothing more to do here" Eva stood up, "I will take my leave," she said.
"Not resting for lunch?" Mrs. Briar asked.
She took a quick look of her family and the dark face of the women of the house made her refused to even think of staying for dinner. Her food may be poison for her to die and Elsa can take her place as Klaus's wife. Yes, she was exaggerating but still, she won't be able to stomach anything if dark eyes was on her.
"I have work to do," she declined her offer. It touched her, a stranger care more about her going empty stomach than her mother. For her defend, she had better things to think at the moment like the fail engagement of her daughter.
"I will go with you." He joined her standing.
They bid their farewell, and left together. Looking at them walking beside the other, they appeared odd together and at the same time looked perfect. Unlike Elsa and Klaus who looks like the perfect couple coming straight of a book with their perfect look and calm conversation. Eva and Klaus looked more realistic together, more real. A better couple.
Mr. Briar stared at their departing figure with his lips slightly lifted up. He knew what was really happening, they thought they have fooled everyone but they didn't. His son didn't fool him and he perfectly knew why each of them insist of getting married even though knowing the other party hated them to the core. He decided not to intervene and let the drama unfold. He was happy for his son who finally got what he always wanted.
.
.
.
"Why did you accept to marry me?" Eva asked as they wait for their individual car to be drive to them. They were standing by the house front. The new formed couple was standing beside the other. The tall, strong man was a great contrast the short and thin woman, but their aura matched to perfection. No doubt they were made for the other.
"Do you have auditory problem which rendered you unable to hear my earlier words?"
"Those were nonsenses words. The real reason is what I want to know."
Their car come to their view.
"That is a secret," he replied.
"If you don't want to tell me, fine hubby," she said and was going to enter her car but Klaus hold her wrist.
"What did you call me?" he asked looking at her.
He was still holding her, waiting for her to brush in off or even react like how she did during Melissa birthday but she didn't. She looked straight in his eyes and repeated,
"Hubby," she said, watching his reaction but she saw none.
"Hearing that affect you? Perhaps the reason behind your agreement to this marriage was that you have feelings for me?"
"Keep on dreaming Farewell," he let go of her hand, "think about what you are getting yourself into because once you signed those documents there will be no way out," he warned.
His words weird her out. She stare weary but Klaus had his cool face on, with his signature smile on his lips. Eva could see nothing in him to put out a judgement.
"Divorce exist if I remember," she said after consideration.
"We, Briars never divorce so think well. Drive safely wifey," with those words he was gone into his car who drove off immediately he entered.
Eva remain in place perplexed by how the situation unfolded. Coming in her parent house, she already had her plan in mine and was ready to stay on her ground even with Klaus rejection of her proposal because she was sure he would have refused without a second thought and it will have end up with neither her nor Elsa getting married but Klaus respond gave an unexpected turn of event.
She agreed and in two weeks, they were going to be husband and wife. It's what she wanted but it felt strange how easy it went. She had her reason, why she wanted the marriage to happen but what about him? Why was his reason to accept to marry someone he hates?
She breathed out heavily before getting in her car. Unlike Klaus, she drove herself here, does has to drive herself back. She left her family property and was on the road when her phone rang. She stopped by the road before answering it. It was Noah.
"So how was it?" he asked.
"Well, not as they planned" she answered struggle to hide her smile. He will be shock when he will know what actually happened. She didn't told him what she was planning to do.
"What?"
"I'm getting married to Klaus," she announced and the other line went quiet. No sound could be hear.
"Are you serious?"
"Totally,"
"How?" she told him how the even unfolded and saying he was shocked was an understatement.
"So that is it? You took your decision, you are really doing it?"
"Yes,"
"Are you sure about this Eva? You know I love you and would always support you whether ever you decide to do but I plead you to reconsider your decision." She remained quiet.
"You may end up hurt in the process and not only you. I don't think it's the best way to go with things."
"Maybe but it's the easier. We being married will make it easy for me to get what I want,"
"Yes but have you thought about the cause of all that? Have you consider the fact that thing may not go your way and how it may end? I don't think it's the best idea really,"
"Noah..." she called with a sad voice.
She get him, she totally understand his point but she won't back off. She has for a long time back off in fear but now she can't anymore. She will stand on her ground and what will happen happened.
"Find! Do as you want. I will be there if you need anything even if it end up backfiring on you. I will be there,"
"Thank you,"
"Always", he said and end the called.
His words brought doubt in Eva mind. She knew it was close to mission impossible but she still held hope she will be able to complete it. The call ended, she continued her way to the orphanage but first went to the organisation fir some document signing.
Upon arriving in the orphanage property, she was surprise to see a familial car parked at the entrance. She stopped her car and got out. She knew trouble was waiting for her.
"Eva!" a loud voice called her.
Yep, big trouble was coming her way in the name of Alicia. Arms folded, frowned on the face and her foot impatiently hitting the ground. She was standing a distance away from her.
Eva sighed, already knowing the reason behind her arrival. Someone has tattle tale on her. She locked her car and walked to her furious friend, standing by the entrances.
"Let me guess, he told you?" she asked her friend squeezing her eyes from the sun ray.
"What is the meaning of all this Eva?" She asked instead.
"I was on my way to pay a visit to my single friend whom I haven't saw in a while, when I received the news about her marriage! You can't really be thinking of marrying Klaus Briar!" For all the years she has known Eva, the latter had never hide her animosity with the guy. And now she was going to marry the same man?
"The thing is I-" she wanted to tell her the truth but she cut her off. And the courage vanished.
"No! There is not valuable reason who could explained the fact that you are getting married to the person you hate the most. It's insane Eva and I wonder how he could agree to such a thing. You guys can't stand each other, how do you expect to marry?"
"I have to Alicia," Eva said.
"You have to? Is anyone forcing you into this?" Now she was worry, but at least it would explain her decision.
She shook her head, "I decide it on my own,"
"How could you think of this? I know that friend of yours is all for it but, I tell you Eva it's a bad decision. You will regret it," She knew for sure Noah would go along with whatever she planned but she would not. Not when her happiness and wellbeing was at risk.
"Maybe, or maybe not."
"There is no maybe in this. A marriage base on hate has no way to go. We aren't in a novel here. It won't end any other way than a divorce in a couple of years. If it even reach there." She took her phone out of her bag, "Call and tell him that after reconsidering everything, you don't think it was the best idea and you are ending it!"
Eva frowned, not liking for the least the words coming out of her mouth but she reminded herself she was just look out for her and acted like this because she was unaware of the truth behind her decision. Though, she wasn't sure she will supported her either way. She remained calm and said,
"I don't ask you to be ok with it but just be by my side, ok? I need you by my side," she pleaded.
Alicia sighed, "Ok" she won't be able to win anyway.
If there were one thing she hates and loved about Eva was her stubbornness and determination. Once she set herself on something, nothing and no one can make her do otherwise. To do so, one has to go true a lot of effort to convince her otherwise.
"So you are getting married," she said half-heartedly.
For her, the marriage had no sense and no one would be able to convince her otherwise but if Eva insist on this, it meant she had a plan and was aiming for something. Not sure what it was but she would be her friend and support her as much as she could.
"I'm getting married," Eva said. Not believing those words herself.
And that was how the once best friend and now enemies got married. Was a happy life waiting for them? Only the future would tell
