They had continued down the cave for a while before it merged with another path. Choosing to explore it before they pushed on. They realised it was the left side cave path they previously skipped.
Resting for a while to get their mana up, Frey took a look at his skill upgrade.
(E-rank) Unique Growth skill: Looter
Besides the increased currency drop-chance, it now allso gave a small chance to loot additional item drops. Meybe thats why he got the Warriors Ring from the goblin warrior?
He had given it to Chioma, to boost her offensive power as it provided +2 to the strenght attribute. She had allso spend her attribute points in agility to be more nimble, fighting the goblins.
Rolf had ofcourse spend his in intellect. With a few minutes fighting, he would have regenerated enough mana to cast 4 fireballs each fight.
"Okay! Are we ready to continue?" Rolf gave Chioma a hand as she stood up, while he had a firm grip on a goblin club in the other.
I had tried to use my skill on the weapons, but they were just normal daggers and clubs.
I grabbed the spear i had taken from the goblin warrior. It felt light in my hand, though it was made of heavy wood with an iron head.
"I dont know for how long we can continue like this, Rolf. My fatigue wont go lower than 56. Im starving. And you two look even worse."
Chioma put her two daggers in the sides of her pants. "I learned how to ignore my hunger from a very young age. Just focus on our goal. The end of this cave. Occupy your mind. Distract Yourself. Let's go."
Rolf and Frey gave each other complimentary looks, shrugged and followed her.
The cave started to widen. Scratching sounds and rumbling noises started to emerge from the far end of the tunnel.
"There is activity down there." Rolf told them to sneak closer.
The path led to a large cave, illuminated by a lot of green plants. A small waterfall sprung from the left side where a huge stone protruded from the cave wall.
Three groups of goblins was occupied with activities in the left, right and center part of the cave. In the far end a taller, but much too skinny goblin, paced back and forth. It was walking in front of a huge stone chair, carrying a wooden staff.
"I bet that's the dungeon boss!" Rolf laughed enthusiastically trough his teeth, as to not make too much noise. "And there beside the stone chair, do you see it? That's our reward for killing it!"
I thought he reminded me of the joker, such a big smile should be illegal. I shook my head. Rolf certainly was exited for this.
"It looks like a chest. Do you think there will be more coins in it? Or what's the big deal?"
Chioma looked confused, not understanding what boss and the reward meant. Yet she smiled. Rolf's enthusiasm clearly affecting her.
"In the games Rolf used to play. Sometimes chests would appear. They could contain items and gold. There were even some that were traps, disguised as chests, damaging or killing the greedy." I told her to speed things up.
I continued, "Rolf and Chioma. If you don't mind. I want to test myself. I've slowly accustomed myself to my stats. I should be 5 times stronger than i normally was. I think I've been holding back. Being afraid."
They looked at me curiously, but yet firmly. Chioma was the first to speak.
"I get it. I felt the same. Every time we fight these creatures, we are putting our very lives on the line. It's not easy to let go of fear. Yet that fear also keeps me from fighting properly. If you want to test yourself, I won't stand in your way."
Rolf put a hand on my shoulder. Looking into my eyes.
"You know I never had any children. Never wanted any. But you are the only family I have left. You have a striking resemblance to my little sister. Your mom. I can't watch you get hurt Frey."
My eyes bore into his, "I understand, and I feel the same uncle. No need to explain further. But I must do this. As Chioma rightfully said, this is life or death. And we need to adjust to this new reality."
I grabbed the minor mana potion from my inventory.
"I have already decided. I need to find Aya. Nothing else matters. I must become stronger! So, take this mana potion and stay here with Chioma. If things go bad for me, you'll be able to rain fire on them as I retreat."
Rolf knew Frey was beyond serious. He had seen that look in his nephew before.
Ten years ago, Frey had been in deep trouble with drugs. Addicted to them. He used to be a kind, charming boy. Handsome and upright. But as the drugs took hold, he saw the boyish features disappear. His personality became harsh and secluded. Things happened. Things his mom wouldn't forgive and he became isolated.
But one day it all changed. Frey had met this Aya girl. Rolf had never met her personally. But from pictures, videos and facetiming with Frey, while he ate with Rolf, as he often did, had given him a clear judgement of her. She truly was a selfless and kind young women. And beautiful too, Frey had certainly hit the jackpot.
That's when Frey had made the same expression. He wanted to change. Everything. And he had done just that. Rolf felt certain, looking at him now, that he needed to do this.
"Allright Frey. Fuck them up then."
He smiled as he let go of my shoulder and turned around to hide with Chioma.
I walked to the edge of the cave, holding my spear. The three goblin groups was about fifty meters apart. And the same distance from the center group to the tall, but skinny boss goblin in the end. It was too far away, for me to inspect it with my skill.
The groups each consisted of 4 scouts and 1 warrior.
My plan was easy. There were none.
I took a firm hold of my spear. Like in the spear throwing sessions in gymnastic class, back in the day, I took aim.
Focusing all my concentration into the aim and power of my throw, I let the spear fly, directly at the goblin warriors head.
Luck was on my side. A scout had annoyed the larger goblin, and it had picked it up with one hand around the throat, hissing at it fiercely.
But the hissing came to an abrupt stop, as my spear pierced the scouts neck and emerging trough the warriors hand. The force of my throw was so powerful, that it directly continued to pierced the warriors forehead, the spearhead reemerged on the other side of its skull.
As they dropped dead, I had already closed the gab between me and the nearest scout. It had a confused look as I twisted its dagger wielding arm, killing it in one swift movement.
I was scared, adrenaline pumping in my veins. But I chose not to let it control my movements anymore.
I let go of my emotions, my desire to grow stronger drastically overshadowing my body's fear and urge to run away.
Before the other two goblin scouts had a chance to react, I grabbed my spear. With a forceful twist I split the goblin warriors skull and posed myself with the spear free.
I took a deep breath, letting my instincts rule. I sensed the two other groups of goblins had become aware of my attack, and slowly picking up speed towards me.
A club was swung at me. I didn't need to dodge. A quick stab with the spear and the goblin fell. I pushed forward, slamming the wooden end of the spear across the other goblins face. Grabbing it as it stumbled I broke its neck with my bare hands.
A goblin warrior from the left side threw its spear at me, I caught it midair, spun around and sent it right back. I was getting rather good at spear throwing. It caught the warrior right through the heart.
Four scouts encircled me and attacked at once. I slashed and stabbed with the spear. Two goblins fell.
The other group had reached me. I could sense them around me. A goblin pierced my left leg with a dagger.
I gave a raging scream of pain as I took hold of its head and crushed its skull into the cave floor.
Another stab. A spear was firmly burrowed into my right shoulder. A club smashed into my face. My nose broke.
I managed to quickly stab another goblin with my spear before a dagger was piercing my belly.
3 fireballs in quick succession came flying, devouring each their goblin. A blue flash streamed before my eyes and the goblin warriors ribcage burst.
I gained my thoughts as I had fallen down on one knee. I pulled the spear out of my shoulder as I saw Rolf and Chioma finishing off the last goblin.
But just as it fell, Chioma gave a loud screech.
"It got me! The root! It's twisting my ancle!"
I looked at her foot as green vines was crawling up her leg, holding her in place.
Rolf had a fierce expression as he emptied the mana potion and let loose a fireball over my head.
I stood up and turned around. I didn't notice the goblin boss had approached from behind. A wall of vines grew instantly before it, absorbing the fireball before burning to crisp.
I grabbed my spear and charged at it, but it conjured a fireball and I barely dodged it by rolling to the side. The fireball continued on its path however, catching Rolf directly in the chest.
Chioma had slashed herself free with her daggers, and ran to Rolf as he fell down with a pained cough and scorched skin.
"Leave him Chioma! I'll get its attention. Try and find an opening!" I yelled at her.
Circling around the boss, it fired another fireball. At this close vicinity I hardly dodged it again, it scraped and burned my injured shoulder as it went by.
Chioma was furious, and took advantage of the boss's fixed attention on me. She landed both her daggers into the boss's lower torso.
It screamed and rooted her instantly, swinging its staff with force right across Chioma's face. She lumped to the ground. Motionless.
A fireball hit the boss in the head. Rolf had managed to fire a last one, as he lay on the stone floor.
I spend all my willpower to stay calm and focused. A path unveiled itself in my mind. With my spear I followed my senses, dodging a vine trying to grab me. I reached the boss and penetrated its skinny chest area. Its eyes burned red with fury as it staggered and died.

I gazed over the battlefield as time started to slow down. Chioma was passed out cold. Rolf was moving, holding a hand to his burned neck.
"I think I'm being pulled to the wheel!" I managed to call out.
Rolf gave a quick nod, he stumbled forward as time slowed to a stop. Everything went dark.
