Chereads / Ultimate Periodic Spell System / Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

"Please choose from the following classes!

Trapper - White Rarity

Labyrinth Dweller - White Rarity

Combat Engineer - Green Rarity

Poison Mage - Green Rarity

Gamer - Blue Rarity

Periodic Spell Caster - Gold Rarity - Unique/Godly"

Ryu immediately discounted the first four options while looking at the additional details provided by the system on the last two classes.

"Gamer - Blue Rarity - A class characterized by the system analyzing a great deal of this worlds video games, This class is a rare growth type class that will evolve and changed based on the skills the user selects, how he "plays" the game of survival, as well as a good bit of luck. It has an infinite number of ways to "play" as there are an infinite number of games for the player to pull skills, loot, talents, and other needed methods of survival from.

Examples of this class include players starting as a Gamer who uses heavy weapons and plays aggressively while listening to heavy metal. Once the Gamer reaches level 20 they are offered the Gamer - Slayer evolution class upgrade.

Periodic Spell Caster - Gold Rarity - Unique/Godly - This is a one of a kind unique class that has no match in the multiverse. It starts off so strong, if used correctly, that it comes with several perks as well as several demerits that are the system's poor attempt at bringing balance to a class that by all rights had such a small chance of being offered as to be nearly impossible to get. All periodic spells that do damage, heal damage, or cause periodic effects are included in this system.

Any skills, talents, or items you gain will be modified to be periodic or to affect periodic spells. None of your periodic spells cost any resources to use nor is there a cast range limit (if you see it you can target it with your spell casts) but they do have cooldown timers. All damage, heal, and effect stacks are set to 1 to start with unless upgraded through rewards, equipment, and upgrades within the system. All periodic spells have infinite duration once cast on a target.

For example, you cast Renew on yourself. It heals for 1 HP per tick, ticks 1 time a second, and lasts forever unless you willingly dispel the effect. You cast Magic Shield on yourself. Magic Shield in other classes grants 80 points of damage protection that are used in place of your HP until exhausted, costs 50 MP, has a 3 min cooldown, and can only be used on yourself. However this spell, converted to the periodic spell caster class costs no mana, has a 1 min cooldown, can be cast on any non-hostile target, grants a stacking 1 point of damage protection per tick with no upper limit, and ticks once per second.

At first look Ryu felt that the Periodic Spell Caster class was extremely weak compared to the growth potential of Gamer but after thinking about it for a little while he started to feel that while it looked weak on the surface it could easily be a super broken way for him to survive. Depending on what buffs and heals he gets he could potentially turn himself into an unkillable behemoth not to mention being able to cast damage over time spells on any enemy he can see without range limitations could make him the ultimate magical sniper.

Even though his spells would do very little up front damage any enemy with 100 hp would still be dead in under two minutes and that doesn't even include if he has the ability to stack the same spell multiple times or even just get a bunch of different ones to all tick away at the same time.

Gamer looked better on the front end, especially with his gaming knowledge but while Periodic Spell Caster would be more effective as a stealth or cowardly player, as the Gamer class he will likely have to take more risks upfront in order to level it up plus it seems like there is a lot of variables that can affect how the class turns out in the future.

What if he wants to be the Doom Slayer but ends up being offered a Master Chief class instead? Or if he is trying to build into a certain game's Druid class but ends up getting a Stardew Valley farmers class instead? Too risky for his blood honestly which made his decision much easier.

"Ding! Congratulations on being the first user to acquire a Godly/Unique class in your multiverse! You have gained the achievement "Future God… If You Survive!" - This achievement grants you 5x the rewards that any other player receives from the system. 5x exp, 5x loot drops, 5x loot box rewards, 5x currency earned, 5x level up rewards, etc."

Ryu knew at this point that his decision to take the Periodic class had been the right one as he imagined the possibilities getting so drawn into his own fantasie that he didn't even notice the additional notifications popping up from his having changed classes. Well he didn't notice until he felt a shooting pain running through his body as the system forcefully applied the levels he had previously earned towards his new class at least.

He watched in horror as his muscles spasmed, squirmed, and reformed right in front of his eyes turning from being a very obese and sloppy looking young man into the exact opposite. It took several minutes for the process to complete and Ryu was writhing and rolling on the floor the entire time yet his strong will to survive gave him enough remaining presence of mind to force himself to endure in silence. He didn't want to attract any hostile attention to himself or his building after the efforts he had used to try and clear out nearby threats.

Once everything settled down and Ryu caught his breath he remained laying on the floor where he had been suffering so recently and mentally checked his stats to see what had changed.

The first thing Ryu noticed was that the achievement reward seemed to affect his assigned Level 1 as well as all of the rewards from his saved level ups! Ryu knew, from what other people shared, that most classes gained 1 stat per level and an increase of 100 HP per level. He now had x5 that amount ready to be used. The pain he went through must have been from his stats changing so drastically as the x5 reward was forcefully added. He made a mental note to apply stat points slowly in the future to avoid such debilitating pain.

Ryu slowly moved and looked around his room getting a feel for his new body and had to admit if he was a potential God… this body was a step in the right direction. He felt as though he could easily lift the front end of a car now or swing a heavy weapon against zombies for hours.

Ryu also felt as though his mind simply ran far more efficiently than before and that he could clearly recall more details from his memories and thinking back he could now see that, had he been less clueless, there were no less than three potential romantic partners dropping hints that he had totally missed out on.

Ryu didn't really feel anything from his spirit stat but one of the benefits of his class was that his spells didn't cost him any resources so maybe this was a stat he shouldn't pay much attention to. His newfound mental prowess however was warning him this view may come back to bite him as the Spirit stat may interact with his spells in unique ways.

Speaking of spells it appears he had been assigned two starter spells upon selecting his class and he went to take a look.

Stone Spike (DoT) - This is the periodic version of the classic mage spell Stone Spike. This spell will deal periodic internal physical damage to any target it is cast on. This spell can target specific body parts as well to allow its damage ticks to target critical weaknesses.

Stone Spike (DoT)

Cost - 0

Cooldown - 15 seconds

Stack Limit - 5

Damage per Tick - 1

Critical Damage per Tick - 2

Tick Rate - 1 per second

Renew (HoT) - This is a heal over time spell that is fairly common among most healer archetypes regardless of class or world. It has been slightly modified to better suit the Period Spell Caster class. This spell can be used on any target and can deal bonus damage to enemies weak against Holy and/or Nature magic.

Renew (HoT)

Range - Infinite

Cost - 0

Cooldown - 30 seconds

Stack Limit - 5

Healing per Tick - 1

Tick Rate - 1 per second

Element Type - Nature/Holy

Ryu grinned evilly and spent a few minutes stacking Renew on himself as a passive 5 HP per second forever was small but could be very powerful in time. While he was stacking Renew he realized two more important things.

First, the amount of exp he needed to level up went from 400 to 10,000 which seemed unfair as hell until he remembered the potential of the class as he realized leveling may be slower but he should be able to outclass enemies twice his level or more if he plays carefully. The second thing he noticed was that he had starter talents to choose! Mentally selecting the talents option in his status he started browsing through his options.

"Ding! Please select five starter talents from the following list! Additional talents can be gained as rewards or every 10 levels.

Machine Gun Ticks - Your periodic spells tick twice every time. Ex. Your spells tick once per second, with this talent they tick twice every second.

Heavy Weapon Ticks - Your period spells tick less often but for twice the effect. Ex. Your spells tick once per second, with this talent they tick once every two seconds but do twice the damage, heal, or effects.

Elemental Focus I - Choose an element type, that element is doubled in power. Twice the damage/healing/effect.

Stack Attack I - Passively increase the maximum stack of effects and spells by +3

Stream of Numbers I - Decrease the time between ticks by .2 seconds.

Dedicated DPS I - Increase the tick damage of all attack spells by +1 per tick

Dedicated Healer I - Increase the tick heal/effect of all heal and buff skills by +1 per tick.

Periodic Spell Focus: Spread - This gives all of your spells a Spread component that is based on the spell function.

Solo Player - You cannot form or join any party or raid groups,in return you gain the following permanent buffs. 25% damage reduction from all source, HP regen now heals per minute instead of per hour, your buff skills now have double the effect on you, +5 to luck, and you gain 10% to your Drop Rate.

Survival is a Team Sport - You gain far less from surviving alone, in return when you are in a party or raid you selection a function (damage dealer, tank, healer, support) and all skills related to that function have double effects.

Spell Focus I - Choose a spell that you currently have and it will gain strong benefits specific to its function.

God's Eyes - This talent gives you a customizable HUD that allows you to see a great deal of information that others can only guess at or slowly find out through trial and error. Allows you to see stats on creatures, players, the environment, and system items.

There were actually nearly a hundred talents to choose from but most of them seemed to be catch all talents that others might want to use instead like a bonus 100 HP or increases to stealth skills or the ability to silence all bodily noises such as farts, burps, sneezes, etc. Ryu immediately discounted such options leaving him with the list he would make his choices from. After deciding what kind style of spell caster he wanted to be he swiftly made his choices!
