Hayazaki stood before the entrance to the Undawild at the farthest edge of the Outer Rim. Unlike the other ornate portals scattered throughout the city, this entrance bore a stark simplicity—almost crude in its construction, as if something massive had violently torn its way out long ago.
He descended the familiar rough-hewn steps into the grand cavern systems below. The network of elaborate burrows stretched before him, and in one of the entrances, he discovered recent signs of habitation: discarded weapons, abandoned guns, and spent ashern lanterns. Deep grafts scored the burrow walls, where embers still smoldered. By any normal measure, these would indicate recent activity—yet Hayazaki's Axis Terminal system reported these embers had been burning for thousands of years.
