Mrs. Cody's mind was clouded with disbelief and distress as she grappled with the news of John's death. Standing by the window, her gaze lost in the distance, she couldn't shake off the haunting repetition of those words, "He is dead." Each time the thought crossed her mind, it felt surreal, impossible. "How can John be dead?" she murmured to herself, her voice echoing with disbelief. "John can't die. He shouldn't be dead."
Her thoughts swirled with uncertainty, torn between the urge to confirm the news herself by traveling to Silvervale and the hesitation of waiting for more information. "Or maybe I should go to Silvervale to find out for myself. Or should I wait?" she pondered, her internal monologue reflecting her turmoil.
Frustration peaked as she attempted to reach Andy for updates, only to be met with silence on the other end of the line. With her concentration shattered, she found it impossible to focus on her work any longer. Resolutely, she gathered her belongings, determination fueling her steps as she made her way out of the office.
Encountering Anderson at the door, their simultaneous opening of the transparent barrier hardly registered in her distracted state. She glanced at him with a tired expression as he offered an apology, his concern evident in his question "are you going somewhere ma'am?.
"Yes, I am going home," she replied, mustering the strength to maintain composure in the face of her inner turmoil. With a firm resolve, she strode past him, masking her inner turmoil with a facade of strength. Can I come with you ma'am? Anderson's offer to accompany her was met with a swift refusal. "No," she insisted, her voice firm, "stay in the office and take care of the pending issues."
Along with her thoughts, Mrs. Cody made her way home, each step weighed down by the heavy burden of uncertainty and grief.
Anderson immediately sprang into action, calling Joe to have the car ready as Mrs. Cody made her way downstairs. By the time she descended, her car was waiting, and Joe drove her directly home.
Upon arrival, she wasted no time, heading directly to the bathroom, where she shed her clothes and stepped into the shower, tears streaming down her face as she grappled with the overwhelming loss. "Oh John, why?" She lamented her resolve as she vowed to uncover the truth behind his demise. "Whatever happens, I will find it... this I promised you."
After a cathartic release of tears, she emerged from the bathroom, her maid awaiting her with a knock on the door. Puzzled, Mrs. Cody furrowed her brows, unable to recall requesting anything. Sensing her confusion, the maid quickly explained " Oh sorry ma'am Mr. Anderson called and instructed me to bring warm milk for you, He said it could help you sleep better." Relenting, Mrs. Cody accepted the offering, retreating to her room, closing the door behind her.
Alone, she decided to call Andy, reaching for her phone as its light illuminated her face, a stark contrast to the darkness that had engulfed her emotions. With a sigh, she dialed, and Andy picked up on the second ring.
"Hello, Andy," she greeted, her voice tinged with weariness and longing for answers.
"Hello, Mrs. Cody," Andy replied, his tone conveying his own sense of urgency and determination.
"I called earlier," she began, her voice trembling slightly, "have you found out anything? What happened?"
Andy reassured her, "No, Mrs. Cody, I'm on it."
In a moment of reflection, she added, "Also, find out where he was buried. I would like to come pay my respects tomorrow."
"Okay, I will do that tomorrow," Andy affirmed.
With a heavy heart, she ended the call, grasping the warm milk and consuming it in one swift motion. Exhausted from the day's emotional turmoil, she lay on the bed, her eyelids heavy with fatigue as she succumbed to sleep, hoping for solace in dreams yet haunted by the unanswered questions that plagued her waking hours.
After the call with Mrs. Cody, Andy felt a sense of urgency to gather more information about John's death. He decided to head to the police station to obtain John's death certificate and any other relevant documents.
As he exited the hotel, Andy noticed a group of young men trailing him. He couldn't fathom why anyone would be following him, especially in Silvervale where he hadn't made any new acquaintances. Determined to confirm his suspicions, Andy continued walking, subtly checking over his shoulder to gauge their movements.
Realizing the young men were indeed tailing him, Andy devised a plan to shake them off. He swiftly turned a corner and entered another street, quickening his pace. Spotting a nearby shop that sold antiques, Andy dashed inside and positioned himself near the glass window, pretending to browse the merchandise while keeping an eye out for his pursuers.
Sure enough, the two young men rushed past the shop, scanning the area frantically. Andy observed them from his vantage point, noting their puzzled expressions as they failed to locate him. He watched as they pulled out their phones, presumably making a call to report their lost target.
Andy remained vigilant, realizing that his investigation into John's death had attracted unwanted attention. With a heightened sense of caution, he resolved to proceed with even greater discretion in his quest for answers.
After his encounter with the tailing incident, Andy decided to take refuge in the antique shop for a while. Once he felt it was safe to leave, he stepped out onto the sidewalk and dialed a contact named William.
"Hey, William, any recent movements from General?" Andy inquired, hoping to shed light on the suspicious behavior he had encountered.
William confirmed that the General had been occupied with his fish farm.
Why are you asking about General, William asked?
Some guys were following me, he replied, if it is not general who could it be?
seemingly ruling him out as the culprit behind the tailing. However, Andy couldn't shake off his suspicions, especially considering General's involvement in referring him to Mrs. Cody.
William asked, "Who are you recently working for?"
Andy replied, "Oh, it's Mrs. Cody from Cody Enterprise."
William's response was revealing, "Oh, that woman. She's known for her dirty games. You didn't ask about her?"
Andy explained, "Nope, General referred me to her."
Realizing the potential implications, William assured Andy, "Okay, I will find out who recently activated anything on you, whether General is involved or not."
"Thanks a lot, William. I appreciate it," Andy expressed his gratitude before ending the call.
