Chapter 20 - Fate

He hailed a cab and headed to the police station on getting there,he observed the environment. The police station was a formidable building, its exterior decorated with imposing columns. brick walls and a prominent entrance guarded by uniformed officers. Through the windows, one could catch glimpses of officers bustling about, and the occasional flash of blue and red lights from patrol cars parked outside. Upon entering, the atmosphere was serious yet organized, with officers stationed behind a central desk and various rooms branching off for different purposes, from interrogation to holding cells. The air was tinged with a faint scent of disinfectant.

As he entered the precinct, Andy's gaze scanned the room until it landed on the counter. Straightening his posture, he approached confidently, his query directed at the officer behind the desk, "Is Detective Davies around?"

The officer met his gaze and shook his head slightly, "No, but he will be here soon. You can wait for him over there," pointing to a seating area with a nod.

"Thank you," Andy acknowledged, a small smile playing on his lips as he slid his hands into his pockets, sauntering over to the designated spot.

Time seemed to drag on as Andy waited, his patience waning after almost 30 minutes. Restlessness creeping in, he shifted his weight from one foot to the other until he overheard the officer's voice, announcing Detective Davies' arrival.

Turning towards the entrance, Andy's expression brightened as he spotted Davies. A grin spread across his face as they locked eyes, the familiarity evident in their greeting. They embraced warmly, hands clasping and backs patting in camaraderie.

Davies, with a chuckle, teased, "Oh my god, Andy, what brings you down here?"

Andy's smile widened as he replied, "It's been a while."

Yeah!

"Gosh it's good to see you, a fond gesture of his hand touching his chin, I went out for this... Have you been waiting long?" Davies asked.

"Hmm, like 30 minutes." Andy shrugged.

"Alright, come on, let's have a chat," Davies suggested, gesturing for Andy to follow him outside. They headed to a nearby coffee shop.

He stepped away to order coffee for Andy, he called out to Andy, "still cappuccino?"

Yeah Andy replied.

As they settled in, Davies leaned forward, his gaze curious, "What brings you to Silvervale?"

"Investigation!"

Andy's response was immediate, as he mentioned "Investigation!"

Davies chuckled softly, his gaze fixed on Andy, as he replied, "Hmmmm, I know you need something from me. You wouldn't have bothered to call me or check on me?"

A knowing smile played on Andy's lips as he responded, "Common, I was a little busy, but I could have called you though," his hands gesturing as he crossed them over his chest in a relaxed manner.

Davies nodded in understanding, his demeanor lightening as he said, "Okay, if you say so," defusing the slight tension in the air.

Shifting the focus back to the matter at hand, Davies queried with a serious expression, "So, what can I help you with?"

Andy's face grew solemn as he explained I need all the investigation material on John Johnson's death and a copy of his death certificate.

Davies' expression softened, a hint of sadness flickering in his eyes. "Oh, John Johnson," he murmured, "That young man's death was a cruel one."

I investigated the case myself but found no foul play. However, we can revisit the site of the incident. with his curiosity piqued, he questioned Andy, "Who sent you to investigate this?"

"His mother." Andy replied simply.

His fingers gently rubbed chin as he mulled over the information.

"Anyway, where are you staying? Let me bring you the investigation material.

"Victoria Charm Hotel, but I intend to move to an apartment.

Do you know any agent I can call?" he responded

Davies nodded in acknowledgment,

"Yeah, I know someone we can call," he said, retrieving his phone to retrieve the contact information.

Excusing himself briefly, Davies made the call, his expression focused as he arranged for a viewing of an apartment for Andy. Upon his return, he relayed, "The guy said there is an apartment, so we can check it out tomorrow if you are not busy."

"Ok, that is fine. The material I will get today, right?" he confirmed,

Davies reassured him, "Yeah, once I'm finished, I will bring them over to your hotel."

With their plans in place, they finished their cups and left the coffee shop.

As Andy bid goodbye to Davies, he didn't head straight to the hotel. Instead, he decided to take a leisurely stroll around the area. Eventually, he pulled out his phone to check Google Maps, searching for Ana's Bakery. Upon finding it, he hailed a taxi to a nearby street, opting not to walk directly to the bakery to see what he could gather.

The taxi dropped him a few shops away from the bakery, and with his hands in his jacket pockets, he strolled casually towards it. When he finally spotted the bakery, it's quiet and inviting ambiance drew him in unknowingly. As he opened the door, a welcoming sound chimed, alerting Alex and Dalia to his presence.

"Welcome," Alex greeted, "what would you like to order?" Andy lazily scanned the surroundings, subtly searching for Aliana. His eyes caught sight of a slightly ajar door, which he presumed led to an office.

Meanwhile, Alex attempted to grab Andy's attention, but his focus was momentarily elsewhere. Suddenly, Ava, Aliana's daughter, darted out from the office and collided with Andy, who effortlessly scooped her up, smiling warmly. Aliana followed closely behind, calling out to Ava to refrain from running around the bakery.

Spotting a stranger holding her daughter, Aliana hurried over, apologizing profusely. "Ava, what did I tell you about strangers?" she reprimanded gently, her concern evident in her tone. Andy couldn't help but smile, captivated by the beauty of the young woman and her daughter.

The warmth in Andy's smile and the gentle way he held Ava conveyed his friendliness towards kids in general.

Aliana's protective instincts and quick response to her daughter's actions revealed her caring nature.
