Chapter 7 - Mother's Love

Mrs Cody couldn't sleep throughout the night, she tossed and turned until it was 4am, she stood up and She silently left the room, entered the study, sat down, opened the drawer, and retrieved a cigarette. In the dim light, she carefully lit the cigarette, exhaling a sigh as the smoke curled in the air, shrouding her in a moment of introspection. As the embers glowed, she gazed out the window, lost in thoughts that lingered in the tendrils of smoke, contemplating a story only known to her.

A subtle unease settled within her, a feeling of disquiet she couldn't pinpoint, yet it lingered, casting a shadow over the tranquility of the moment.

What could have gone wrong?

Her maternal instincts heightened, her heart carried an unspoken worry, a protective pulse echoing concerns for the one she holds dear, weaving an invisible thread of connection between her and the one she loves.

Beneath the veneer of coldness, a tender flame flickers for her son, a vulnerable ember illuminating the depth of a mother's love, untarnished by the stoic facade.

As dawn approaches, she gathers herself, preparing for work.

Infused with a newfound determination she stepped out with a resolute spirit repeating her mantra

" I am Mrs Cody, the iron lady of the business world"

she fortified her solve, channeling strength from within herself, with a unwavering confidence, she affirmed "nothing I cannot conquer" embodying the indomitable spirit that had propelled her through countless trials in the demanding landscapes of the business world.

Today she optioned for a black suit trousers, a symbol of her professional armor,

she called her driver,

Mark is the car ready?

Yes ma'am, also Mr Anderson is here.

Anderson, did something happen?

Mark opened the car door for her,

Anderson took the key from Mark and told him to bring his car to the office.

As Anderson steered the car towards the office,

her gaze, reflected in the rear mirror, and met his eyes he coughed and said, it is about the project we are bidding for...

Tell me the details,

her tone a blend of curiosity and business acumen, ready to engage in the intricacies of the project discussion with Anderson.

He began detailing the project.

It is about the new urban transportation system.

After he was done with the details she asked him to give the person in charge some wine.

Such details shouldnt be confirmed with me, she said.

Yes ma'am.

Also you have an interview with an international media.

Ok can we reschedule that one? I want to meet the PI first.

Yes ma'am we can.

Good then.

They got to the office, she headed straight to the private elevator which takes her to her floor.

Entering the office, she seamlessly transitioned into the rhythm of the day, heading to her meeting with a blend of determination and poise, ready to navigate the discussions that awaited.

In the conference room, she presided over the meeting, her sharp intellect guiding discussions. Amidst charts and presentations, she steered the conversation with a strategic vision, leaving an indelible mark of leadership on the leaderships.

As the meeting concluded with a sense of accomplishment, decisions had been made and strategies aligned, she left the room, prepared to tackle the next challenges that the business world would unfold.

As they walked outside,

Anderson whispered into her ears that Mr Andy was waiting in the lobby,

Then bring him to my office.

She sat while waiting for Mr Andy.

Andy a tall lean man displayed a noticeable muscular build, indicating physical strength and a robust presence like an ex-marine that he was.

He wore a suit a jean and looked quite observant behind his sunglasses. He exudes professionalism with an air of secrecy suggesting experience in uncovering hidden truth.

Mrs Cody observed him, and couldn't help but think, "he looks too young for this" a subtle surprise marked her expression, contemplating his youthful appearance in contrast to the seasoned expectations associated with the profession.

A smirk played on his face, in response to her observation, a knowing expression that hinted at a blend of confidence and amusement, as if acknowledging the contrast between appearance and expertise.

With a knowing tone, he voiced,"I may look young and handsome, but rest assured, my skills go beyond appearance.

"The smirk persisted, carrying a sense of assurance that transcended the initial impression.

Observing his somewhat confident and cocky demeanor, she couldn't help but scrutinize his behavior.

Maybe , just maybe he might be better than I thought. His self assurance mannerisms left an impression, prompting her to consider the nuances beneath the surface of his outward expression.

The whisper of his unpredictable nature lingers in her mind…..

She gestured, "please have your seat",as she gracefully walked towards the sofa.

As he settled into the seat, she took her place across from him,

She began,"I need you to find my son"

Leaning forward slightly Andy responded, I will do my best. Can you provide any details or leads that might help in locating him?

Yes please, signaling Anderson to bring the postcards, she handed them over to him.

We last received this 5 years ago.

She handed over the postcards and pictures to him

Andy furrowed his brow, concentrating on looking at the picture.

My son and I have a strained relationship.

"I see" he acknowledged, but can you share more about the nature of the strain and any events that might have contributed to it.

She blinked, swallowed, and drew a deep breath, a sequence of movement that conveyed a mix of emotions which did not escape Andy's eyes.

It all started when his father and I separated…

She told him all about it…. And ended with

It wasn't my fault I don't know why he held it against me. Do you understand me?

Yes I do,

So you have been sending people to secretly take pictures of him, ever since right?

Yeah I only required photos and information on his whereabout,

And where was he last seen?

He was last seen in Crestwood. Here are the postcards, that was 5 years ago.

Andy brought out is pen and paper to jot down,

When he realize you where tailing him, he disappeared

Yeah!! ever since my guys haven't been able to get hold of him.

What is his name?

But he will likely go by the name John Johnson.

Alright

Can I have both the postcards and photos?

Not a problem.

She handed them to him.

If you need anything, just give me a call

Call me directly, I could prefer that.

Ok I will, he collected them.

So don't worry, I will pay double your service charge.

He smiled

He strode out of the office with purposeful steps, a silhouette of determination, he descended the stairs with a deliberate pace, he continued his departure, he smoothly entered the SUV, a versatile travel vehicle that promised both comfort and mobility for the journey ahead.
