Chapter 8 - New Ally: ancient lettres's argument

Syn and Ray sat down at the small bar where they had introduced themselves the day before, Syn made good on his promise to repay Ray for the drinks they had shared. As they relaxed and enjoyed their beverages, they couldn't help but notice the unusual emptiness of the establishment. Glancing around, they realized that they were the only patrons in the entire bar.Their curiosity piqued, they turned their attention to the bartender,a young man in his twenties with mid-length black and blond hair, his blue eyes partially obscured by his bangs. He wore an intriguing costume that hinted at a mysterious persona.

Intrigued by the peculiar emptiness of the bar, Syn and Ray approached the bartender, exchanging curious glances as they inquired about the unusual circumstances. With a cryptic smile, the bartender simply replied, "Welcome, enjoy your drinks"

As Syn observed the bartender, he turned to Ray and suggested they leave the matter be, assuming the bartender wouldn't engage in conversation. However, just as Syn began to turn away, the bartender surprised them both by speaking up, offering to answer any questions they might have.Syn seized the opportunity, his curiosity piqued.

"What is that aura flowing from your eyes?" he inquired, unable to contain his fascination.

The bartender responded with a cryptic grin, teasing Syn about whether his question stemmed from fear or curiosity before he could resume syn removed his cloak, revealing his distinctive white hair and crimson eyes,a sight that left both Ray and the bartender astonished.Ray, ever the joker, couldn't resist a lighthearted comment. "You're kinda hot, no?" he remarked, earning a chuckle from Syn.Unexpectedly, it was the bartender who responded next, his gaze fixed on Syn. "Yeah, he is" he agreed with a smirk, before introducing himself as Rhys Rive.

Syn reciprocated the introduction, revealing his name as Syn Sindares.

"sindares, huh?"

As Rhys began to speak further, his words trailing off as he caught sight of Syn's crimson glare, realizing he had touched on a sensitive topic. Hastily, he apologized.

"anyways, we want you to quit your job".

Ray's confusion was evident as Syn made the unexpected request of Rhys. Sensing Ray's perplexity, Syn clarified his intentions.

"i can see the aura flowinbg from you,we're embarking on a journey, one that requires your particular set of skills."

Ray's bewilderment deepened as Syn continued, his mind racing to comprehend the sudden turn of events. Yet, despite his confusion, he remained steadfastly by Syn's side, ready to support his friend in whatever endeavor lay ahead.

Rhys regarded them both with a mixture of surprise and intrigue, his curiosity piqued by Syn's enigmatic words. "What kind of journey?"

He inquired, his interest piqued by the mystery that surrounded them.As Syn delved into the history of the Sindares kin, Rhys listened intently, his curiosity piqued by the revelation. The mention of the banishment and the supposed curse intrigued him, prompting him to consider the implications of Syn's heritage.

"I've heard of the Sindares," Rhys admitted, his tone thoughtful. "But only in passing, never anything substantial. The notion of a curse seemed more like a superstition than anything else."

"It's true that our kin was once banished from the empire," syn confirmed.

Syn hesitated for a moment, considering how best to explain the origin of his crimson eyes to Rhys without revealing too much. Finally, he spoke, choosing his words carefully.

"These crimson eyes hold ancient power, yet their origin remains a mystery to me."

Syn reiterated his proposal to Rhys, urging him to leave his job at the bar to join their journey. However, Rhys hesitated, explaining that he needed the income and that he could balance both responsibilities.Rhys, ever practical, questioned Syn and Ray about the timing of their proposed quest. Syn considered for a moment before responding confidently,

"Tomorrow morning."

"Understood" Rhys nodded.

Syn turned to Ray and suggested changing into black clothes to avoid attracting attention. Ray's eyes widened with an idea, and he asked Syn for his black robe."Copy," he said, and a magic circle appeared, duplicating the design of the black robe. Then, with a swift motion, Ray edited the copied robes, adding a second-tier magic circle on the back of each one. The circle depicted three eyes red, blue, and purple contained within it.

Syn watched intently as Ray continued to edit the robes, adding the symbols of the Greek alphabet. As the final touches were made, Syn's eyes widened in astonishment at the sight before him,an array of Greek letters

Intrigued by Ray's selection of symbols, Syn posed his question, partly as a test, given his assumption that he was the sole individual in their era privy to the meanings behind these ancient symbols.Ray elucidated that during their combat, what Syn had referred to as the "secondary combination" comprised four slashes, each imbued with one of these symbols.Ray articulated that with the establishment of the "secondary combination" concept, logic inherently implied the existence of a corresponding "primary" counterpart.Syn provided further detail, explaining that the "primary combination" consisted of five slashes, each bearing the name of one of the first five letters of the Greek alphabet.

Rhys sought confirmation, querying,

"So the secondary combination comprises 'Zeta, Eta, Theta, Iota,' and the primary consists of 'Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Epsilon'?"

"Could you enlighten me on how both of you came to know about the existence of the Greek alphabet?" Syn inquired, his curiosity piqued.

Both of them retrieved books from their respective bags, each one showing signs of significant damage, rendering portions of their contents unreadable.Syn carefully inspected the pages of the two books before ultimately deciding to use magic to reduce them to ashes.

Both of them questioned Syn's actions as he retrieved the "Chronicles Of Mana."Upon seeing the book, they immediately questioned its origin, but Syn remained tight-lipped, refusing to provide an explanation. They requested Syn's permission to take and inspect the book, to which he acquiesced. Upon examining it, they discovered that it was written with the same letters they had been discussing.
