Chapter 8 - To lie low during the day and come out at night

Every evening, Su Nian would make a trip to the supermarket. In order not to appear too out of the ordinary, besides snacks, she would also buy some other items.

Initially, when stocking up, Su Nian bought a lot of rice and flour, as well as instant noodles, but she didn't buy dried noodles. Now, Su Nian had stocked up on them to some extent.

Although the taste of dried noodles was not very good, they had the advantage of being long-lasting, and she could use them in front of others in the future.

The city where Su Nian lived was not far from the capital and was also a first-tier city. There were countless malls and supermarkets of all sizes in the city. Su Nian would go to a different place every evening, buying different types of items each time.

After getting to the car, she would put away most of the items into the space and only carry the rest back home, without arousing any suspicion. After all, in the current situation, there were many people like Su Nian who bought supplies home every day.

It was already mid-September. In previous years, by this time, autumn clothing would have already been on the market, and winter clothing would be gearing up. But this year, even wearing short sleeves and shorts made people feel hot.

When going out at night, Su Nian saw many stores selling autumn and winter clothing at clearance prices. Su Nian had already stocked up on many of these clothes, but they were all for her own wear.

Looking at the various styles of clothes in the store, after hesitating for a moment, Su Nian still walked in.

In her previous life, Su Nian struggled to survive alone in the apocalypse. There were men who approached her, but all of them had various ulterior motives. Su Nian was not foolish and naturally wouldn't be with such people, so even after ten years into the apocalypse, Su Nian remained alone.

In this life, Su Nian was uncertain whether she would still live alone forever, but as the saying goes, it's better to be safe than sorry. Since she encountered it, she bought some clothes as backup. If she really needed them, she wouldn't be without.

If she didn't need them, she could keep them for herself!

With this mindset, Su Nian bought a lot of men's clothing, all in sizes 185 and above. Su Nian felt that she was still quite picky when it came to men. Men who couldn't fit into size 185 clothes couldn't possibly become her boyfriend!

Su Nian's car was parked outside. After paying, she ran back and forth with two store clerks several times before finally putting all the clothes, shoes, and socks into the car. Fortunately, the car had enough space; otherwise, she wouldn't have been able to fit everything.

Su Nian drove back to the underground parking lot of the residential area. After parking the car, she carried a bag of snacks and entered the elevator.

As for the clothes, they had been stored away by Su Nian long ago.

When the elevator stopped at the first floor, the door opened, and two middle-aged women came in. Both of them were carrying large bags, their faces red and sweaty from exhaustion. After standing still, they didn't forget to chat.

"We need to quickly fill up everything at home that can hold water. Water supply will be limited starting tomorrow. We need to store enough water in advance. It's so hot these days; how can we live without water?"

"Exactly! My grandson wants to be in the water all day long. It would be impossible without water."

"First, there was limited electricity, and now there's limited water. Why does life seem to be regressing more and more? My son said many people online are saying the end of the world is coming!"

"I don't understand all this talk about the end of the world! But stocking up on food and drinks is never wrong!"

Su Nian stood behind the two women, silently listening to their conversation. After a while, the elevator reached their floor, and the two women got out, leaving Su Nian alone in the elevator.

She had been busy shopping and hadn't checked the neighborhood group messages, so she didn't know about the notice of limited water supply.

Back home, after closing the door, Su Nian immediately stored away the items she was carrying and took out her phone, opening the neighborhood owner's group. As soon as she opened it, a notice popped up, informing everyone about the limited electricity and water supply.

After reading the message, Su Nian slowly breathed out and closed her phone. While there was still water available, Su Nian quickly took a shower, returned to her bedroom, and turned on an air cooler.

The temperature at night was only around thirty degrees Celsius, so Su Nian usually only used one air cooler. After filling up the 1000 water tanks and 1000 water buckets she had purchased earlier, she had ordered an additional 200 of each. During this period, all of them had been filled with water. Now that she knew there would be limited water supply, Su Nian wasn't worried. She didn't lack water, but she also didn't intend to waste it. She used the water used for laundry and washing vegetables to flush the toilet, which was a two-fold benefit.

Su Nian believed that after the limited water supply, many people would do the same as her. Being thrifty was essential; otherwise, life would force you to be thrifty sooner or later. However, Su Nian also knew that this method was only temporary. As time went on, with water resources becoming scarcer, even drinking water would become a problem, let alone flushing toilets, which would be considered a luxury.

Later on, when water was scarce, even flushing the toilet would create noise that could cause trouble for oneself. In her previous life, after water scarcity, many people stopped using toilets at home and went to public toilets. Some even found secluded corners to relieve themselves.

There were also some people who lacked public morality and relieved themselves anywhere. Su Nian didn't want to recall the experience of accidentally stepping on a "landmine" in the dim light at night. To avoid experiencing the embarrassment of finding a toilet, Su Nian had specifically searched on the internet.

The result was pleasing to Su Nian. Apocalypse enthusiasts had their own set of solutions for various natural disasters. After reading several posts, Su Nian learned about a magical tool—cat litter.

Su Nian had never raised a cat, so she didn't know about cat litter. But after learning about it, Su Nian couldn't help but exclaim repeatedly. It was truly a great invention!

Su Nian contacted two major cat litter manufacturers and ordered fifty tons of cat litter. Boxes of cat litter were now stacked in a corner of her space, towering high and giving Su Nian a sense of security.

This was the magical aspect of her space. Su Nian could stack things together until they touched the top of the space. The items wouldn't collapse, and those underneath wouldn't be crushed. This ensured that every inch of space could be fully utilized.

Su Nian lay on her bed, enjoying the breeze from the air cooler, lost in her thoughts, until she fell asleep.

When Su Nian woke up again, it was already six in the afternoon. The afternoon sun was still scorching the earth. Su Nian only

opened a small slit in the curtains, took a peek outside, and instinctively closed her eyes against the sunlight. Now, everyone was accustomed to hiding during the day and coming out at night. They slept when dawn broke and woke up when the sun was about to set.
