The boat rocks fiercely from side to side. I knew the risks of boarding a fishing boat, but for a moment, I wanted to assume the journey would be like my previous ones.
The waves crash violently against the sides of the boat, each one seeming stronger than the last. The sky above is an ominous shade of dark gray, with thick clouds blocking out any hint of moonlight or stars. The crew is tense, their faces set in grim determination as they battle the storm.
As I cling to the railing, the boat lurches again, and I peer out into the roiling sea. That's when I see it—a massive shape moving just beneath the surface. For a moment, I think it's just my imagination, a trick of the storm and the darkness. But then it emerges, its long, sinuous body cutting through the water with an eerie grace.
