"Miss Elizabeth Adling?!" A suit man asked.
"Yes,"
He opened the file in front of him. I came to be hired as a high school teacher..
Yes, I know I can easily find a well-paying job. But I have no interest in money. Just looking for a quiet place.
"Your resume is fantastic, Miss," said The principal.
"Thank you very much,"
He closed the file.
"You understand the salary of a teacher is not very high?!"
"Yes sir. Money is not important to me,"
After an hour of interviewing, I was hired as a chemistry teacher at an elites high school in Portland. All teachers have PhD here. Of course, none of them are as good as me.
I worked in a government laboratory in New York for a year. With that money, I let a normal apartment in the west of the city. The distance from my house to school was half an hour.
I hired some people to pack my things inside the apartment.
I stood in front of the window. The view was relatively good. Several small and large apartments made an attractive view at nights.
I changed. It wasn't long before my doorbell rang. Who is this?! My parents?! No, they don't know where I live.
Looking out of the hole. A young girl was standing with a plate in her hand. It was 2PM. I opened the door.
"Can I help you?!" I said.
"Hello, my name is Atoosa, your neighbor. Nice to meet you," She pointed to the side unit.
Looking at her. Normal height and smooth skin. A little stress was in her eyes.
"Hi Atoosa, nice to meet you too. I'm Elizabeth. I just moved her," I smiled at here.
"I see," she gave me the plate,"take it. I'm sure you didn't have time to prepare food,"
She was kind. Wearing a funny t-shirt with a picture of a tomato.
"Thanks Atoosa, There was no need for this," I taked the food,"wanna come in?!" I asked.
"No, thanks. You just got here. Probably tired,"
How understanding. I like this girl.
I was closing the door that she said:
"It just…,"
"Yes,"
"Come to my place for dinner. If you want,"
"Of course. I'll see you tonight," I closed the door.
...........…
It got dark. I was excited to go to Atoosa's house. It was to reason. First, the food she gave me at noon was delicious and second, I enjoyed talking with her. She was kind. No fake acting.
I bought an expensive wine, knocked on the door.
It's interesting that this time I was stressed. No one has ever invited me to their home. I'm so soulless.
Atoosa opened the door. tieing her hair and eating an apple.
"Elizabeth,hi. So on time. Dinner is almost ready," She said smiling, eating the apple.
I came in. The house was beautiful.
"Sit please," she said.
"Wine," I gave her it.
"Thanks girl," she came close and smiled,"If my parents come sometime, don't bring wine. They are Muslims," he said in a fun tone.
"Are you Muslim too?!"
"No I'm not,"
Atoosa went to the kitchen, I sat on the sofa, looking at the house. There were interesting panels. Definitely not American. a colorful carpet was under my feet.
But my attention was more drawn to a blue necklace. I mean, it was blue but a special blue. It was on a book.
I stood up, moving towards it. Its plate was a blue stone.
"What is this?" I asked.
"What?! Oh…This is a necklace my parents sent me. For my country. Its name is turquoise stone,"
"It's so special," I picked it up, saying with surprise.
"Yes it is.This color is very rare,"
I was looking at it. Couldn't look away. She came to me.
"You know what?! I give it to you," she said.
"What?! No, it looks very expensive," I didn't accept.
"Take it. It's only a stone to me. It's worth less than our friendship,"
Interesting! We hadn't really met yet But she easily gave me her expensive necklace.
After many insistences of Atoosa, I accepted the necklace.
"Turn around, let me put it for you," she said, I did with smile.
The food that Atoosa prepared was fragrant and colorful. I almost went crazy when I took the first bite. It was delicious. And fresh of course.
We became close that night, so much so that she asked me to go to a club with her.
This was the first time that she had dated a boy since her migration, they were supposed to meet at the club.
She was very stressed, asked me to go with her to relieve her stress. I accepted it as a friend. I hope she can find the love of her life.
