CHAPTER 3
Narrator's POV
'STOP!' Alpha Brenna shouted. 'What do you think you are doing June?' She asked. She was surprised with the sight she stumbled upon. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. Was June about to strike a person who was in capable of defending herself? What was she even doing in this part of the territory and yet was not among the warriors?
She needed to know what had really transpired before she took matters into her own hands. Who better to fill her in than Jordan, her Gamma who was among the first people present during the incidence.
She turned to Jordan for an explanation and after being filled in on what really happened, she felt sorry for the still form on the ground. She needed to get her to the hospital before dealing with June.
'Take her to the hospital, she seems to be loosing a lot of blood,' Brenna commanded her warriors who had been listening as the Gamma explained what really transpired a few minutes earlier.
'But Brenna you can't…..' June went to object only to be cut off with a very angry growl that had everyone on their knees and necks shown in submission.
' It's Alpha Brenna to you and everyone else here. You are not my equal for you to address me in such an informal manner,' Onyx voice could be heard booming angrily throughout the forest and back to the mansion. 'Next time you address me in such an informal manner in front of my pack, I will forget that we were once friends. Furthermore, you don't have the authority to dismiss my direct order.' She added.
June felt humiliated, she had been terrorizing the pack members making them do her biddings. No one was ever brave enough to go against her because they all thought that she was the Alpha's mate. She felt like she had to do something to save face.
'Alpha Brenna, how can she be taken to the infirmary and not the rogue cell or killed on spot like we normally do? What's so special about her that you are not granting me permission to kill her as is my right to do so. Was I not the one who captured her?' June asked angrily.
Something wasn't sitting well with her and the situation too. Why was Brenna not following their stated rule? She had a right to execute the rogue or did she not?
Lost in thoughts and confusion, June failed to notice how fast their Alpha had moved and was now stood in front of her with a very angry face and dark red eyes boring holes in to her.
The warriors present were feeling the negative pressure emitted by their Alpha, they understood why she was furious with June. The girl on the ground was seriously bleeding out and immobile yet June only cared about showing her dominance.
Looking at her, they knew that the girl needed medical attention before anything else could be said or done. She looked like she was running away in her state. She may have been a rogue but a rogue with the marks of injections on her hands and the smell of the wolfs bane? It only increased their curiosity on the girl rather than their stated laws. Wolfs bane was banned.
Feeling the amount of anger and disgust projected in the pack link, they knew that it wasn't their Alpha in charge but her wolf. Everyone feared for their lives. They knew what normally happened when Onyx took over from her human and prayed that Milo doesn't wake up because it will cause a nightmare.
'I will say this one last time, I give the orders. Whether she is a rogue or not, she needs medical attention before anything else. We will treat her and then find out why she crossed our borders and who has injected her with wolfs bane. Remember, everyone knows it's a death wish to be in possession of wolfs bane. This is the last time I am addressing you June. Don't make me make an example out of you.' Onyx angrily growls.
June could do nothing but nod in agreement, she knew she had overstepped but didn't want to accept her mistakes.
Once Onyx retreated back, everyone released the breath they were holding and rushed to do as instructed by their Alpha
Alpha Brenna on the other hand was confused on why she felt the need to defend the rogue. Onyx was jittery and anxious in her head especially with the scent of wolfs bane. It hid the wolf's scent beneath and she wanted to unearth her.
Her nerves were too much that it woke up Milo from her nap. Milo had no idea of the happenings around her or to her companions. What they all didn't know was in the next couple of days their world was going to change.
Earlier that day…..
She was in her office with her Beta, Chase and his mate, Chastity. They were both her friends and close confidants. They were busy writing some invitation letters to other packs for the summer super bowl that usually happen after every two years.
This was not her idea, it was her parents' and the council members. They felt that its about time they host a bowl and in doing so, she might meet her mate. They stopped hosting any bowls or conferences after an incident that happened eight years ago at the Light Moon pack.
To them, time was running out for their future queen and so she had to find her mate before her twenty fifth birthday which was in a month's time.
She was supposed to take over after her parents as the queen of all the supernatural but she can only do so if she has her mate by her side which of course she didn't or she hadn't met them yet.
So here they were on a bright Saturday morning, writing invitation letters to a bowl that will only disappoint her again or so she thought.
They were half way through when she got an alert. A rogue had intruded on their land. She ordered her warriors ahead while she and Chase followed behind to go and subdue the said rogue and find out why they had trespassed on their land.
Even though her parents hadn't stepped down from being the rulers, they had given her the reigns to rule the pack and learn more about her people. So she was in charge of the pack and the territory.
On their way to the location, she got a mind link from her Gamma Jordan that the rogue had been caught but she was unconscious, bleed, smelling like wolfs bane and in need of a serious medical attention.
She asked what had happened but her only answer was that she needed to arrive at the scene to see for herself.
Running as fast as she could, with Chase close behind her. She arrived few minutes later to the East side of the border and to say she wasn't prepared for the sight before her would be an understatement.
On the ground was a tall female, seriously injured and bleeding out. She looked dead if not for the slow rising and falling of her chest, she would have assumed so herself. Hovering above her was June, claws drawn out, angry face ready to tear out her throat.
She stopped abruptly in shock which almost made her Beta run in to her. She was speechless for several minutes. Why would June try to kill a defenseless person? They normally killed rogues yes, but not without trial first and not when they can't defend themselves.
She had to act fast and prevent spilling of innocent blood. Hesitating for a minute Onyx took the opportunity to take control before all the commotion escalated and woke up Milo. Onyx knew that things would not look pretty if Milo is awoken up from her nap. Milo hated how out of hand June had gotten. She had even suggested that she's sent to the academy for a year or so to help straighten her up but everyone thought to give her a chance, a chance that she was seriously wasting.
It took longer than planned but once she was sure everything and everyone was set in their place, she followed the warriors to the hospital wing in the mansion to check on their new guest.
The wing of the hospital was buzzing with nurses and their assistants. Jordan was in a conversation with Jodie who happens to be her twin sister and also the hospital nurse assigned to the rogue.
Jodie was in the middle of explaining the health status of their rogue friend. Brenna made sure her presence was known. Curiosity getting the best of her, she had to know the problem with the patient.
'How is she Jodie? Will she regain consciousness anytime soon?' she made sure to ask politely even though both Onyx and Milo were demanding her to burst in the room and see for herself.
'Nice of you to join us Alpha Brenna,' Jodie acknowledged her presence. 'As I was telling the Gamma, her vitals are stable but we had lost her once and had to resuscitate her. Her breathing is irregular which could have been caused by a number of things. Either her damp clothes or the wolfs bane. We also need to do more tests to her and determine the real problem because she doesn't appear to be healing as fast as a normal wolf does yet we've taken the wolfs bane and silver out. Unless she is a hybrid of which I am highly doubtful about, we will need to consult High priestess Amaris about this case.' She adds.
She was alarmed already. Why would they need to consult the High Priestess? She was never summoned unless it was a matter of life and death situation or when it involves the Myths and prophecies. She had to find more before she brought the matter to the council.
'What do you mean she's not healing as fast as a normal wolf does? Why would we need to summon the High Priestess Amaris for this? I thought she only had a head injury from the fall and the wolfs bane. Is there anything else that I need to know about?' she inquire.
The warriors earlier never mentioned her sustaining any more injuries. Did June do more damage before anyone else arrived at the scene? She couldn't put it past her. She's known to be violent against any female members of the pack or outside the pack. She believes that scaring them away, will pave way for the alpha to notice her .
She turn to the Gamma the question hanging in the air. Milo was itching to punish June, she hated mistreatment of any kind to anyone. She knew of Junes' tendencies. Even though she had issued several warnings to her, she never heed to them. But before she could even ask, Jordan beat her to it.
'No Alpha, June didn't do anymore damage than earlier reported. I arrived just as she had tripped her and stopped her before you arrived,' She said truthfully. Before she could speak, Jodie spoke again.
'Alpha, from my observation, it appears that the patient is completely human. How that is possible, I cannot say until I have performed a blood work on her. Until then, we will keep her with us but am going to request that the High Priestess be summoned as fast as you can. I fear, the dark days are upon us. Wolfs bane and silver is not a joke Alpha. It could have killed her but she lives and this still baffles me.' She said before she excused herself and returned to her patients.
What she said had Brenna's fur itching, "the dark days are upon us" what did she mean by that? Was there a war coming their way? Whoever had the wolfs bane definitely knows it's not allowed. She had more questions than answers and it seems like the Gamma wasn't fairing that well.
She was brought out of her musing by the arrival of Chase who by the look on his face, wasn't baring any good news at all. This was the kind of face he usually made whenever they had a meeting with other Alphas, there's a rogue attack or they had a pending meeting with the council members. More precisely, whenever they have been summoned before the council.
Could the day be any worse than it already was? Chase uttered four words that made her wish she had never woken up early on a weekend.
'Alpha, we have been summoned!'
How I hate Saturday mornings! Was her thoughts while exiting the hospital.
