Daphne
"I need to see Miss Daphne," Tony said.
"No." Nanny Elina said sharply. "She is about to get married, you are not allowed to see the bride or talk to her until the wedding is over."
"What the hell," Tony mumbled under his breath. He was afraid to say curse words in front of Nanny Elina. She forbids everyone in the family gang from saying horrible words in front of Daphne.
Daphne's late father, Tucker Martin, had given nanny Elina, the right to take care of her. Even if it meant giving his men orders.
"I'm not the groom, why can't I see her? There is something I must tell her."
"You may not be the groom, but you are a hooligan."
"Let him come in," Daphne said. She let out a tired breath. Weddings were supposed to make a bride feel excited, but in Daphne's case, she felt mentally drained. In feel minutes she would be married. She was getting married to a man that she didn't love, but she had known Noah Dutton, all her life. He was slightly older than her at the age of 32 while she was 25 years old. Marriage was all about understanding right? As long as Noah cared, respected, and understood her then everything should be okay. Her late father trusted him, so it was okay for her to let herself do the same. After all, she wasn't in love with anyone.
Falling in love with boys had always been hard for Daphne. Almost everyone around her knows that her family were mafia. If anyone tried getting closer to her, they were in danger. Daphne had long given up on trying to get close to anyone who wasn't a part of the family. And Noah was part of the family, so he was a good choice.
"Miss Daphne I d_"
"It's okay Elina. It's not as though I'm nervous about the wedding. Tony can come in." Daphne lied. She was nervous about starting a new life with Noah. Elina knew that but Daphne wanted to be strong, no matter what.
Daphne was in the marriage hall, she was in a room that gave her a few minutes of privacy before the wedding.
"A strange man in a bike gave this to me." Tony handed a huge envelope to Daphne. "The man was wearing a helmet, so I didn't get the chance to see his face. But he said that this is urgent and you need to have a look at it before you decide to marry Noah."
Daphne looks at the envelope with caution. She thought of how dangerous it was to take things from strangers. It could be a bomb. But if Tony was the one who gave it to her, then it could be okay. A lot of her father's enemies wanted her dead for revenge even though her father had tried hiding the existence of her birth. Daphne opens the envelope. The first thing she took was a note that said;
"I couldn't save your father, but there's still time to save you. The man you are about to wed is the same man who killed your father. The only reason he's marrying you is because of your father's will. I know it feels like your father already left everything for you, but there's something else. Something hidden, your father demanded that it won't be revealed until after your wedding."
"Run away from Noah. Please save yourself. I'm sorry for letting your father die. This is the only way I can atone for my sins."
"What is this?" Daphne asks as she reads the note again. Even though she could read the words, she still couldn't believe it. Noah is her father's best friend, they did business together and there have been some situations when her father would have died if Noah didn't save him. Daphne couldn't count the number of times her Dad had praised him in front of her. In those days she used to be jealous because Noah was a son her father didn't have, for him to have been interested in the family business was a plus one in gaining more of Daphne's dad's affection.
Daphne dropped the note and looked more into the envelope. Her heart seized when she saw a picture of Noah with a gun pointed against her father, who seemed to be already wounded, they had multiple pictures and a voice recorder that was clear enough to state Daphne's father's last words. But the recorder proves that there was indeed something Noah was trying to get out of her father.
Tears poured out of Daphne's eyes as she listened to the recording again and again.
"That bastard." Tony goes over the note and the pictures that have fallen out of Daphne's hands. "Ever since the day our boss, introduced him to the gang, I have never trusted him. He always had this image as though he was perfect, but that bastard is worse than a snake." Tony cursed without caring about whether nanny Elina could hear him or not. "I'm going to kill him."
Nanny Elina stopped Tony from going out the door. Though she appeared calm she was as angry as Tony, but she needed to calm down for Daphne who was broken by the news. "I'm not saying that Noah shouldn't be killed, but we need to think of Daphne. We need to get her safely out of here. The pictures look like they had been taken from a far distance and the recorder is barely audible. That means Noah still doesn't know that there's evidence against him."
"I was about to marry the man who killed my father." Daphne couldn't move from the chair she sat in. If only she could call the police and hand over the evidence she had to them. But she could not. Daphne was aware of how much the cops couldn't be trusted. Her father taught her that. In her world, evidence given to cops could be easily erased.
"Miss Daphne, Daphne..." Nanny Elina called out to Dalpne, she had been calling her name for a while, but Daphne looked completely out of it. Lost in thought. "Daphne!" She shakes Daphne and calls her one more time. "We need to leave, even though he doesn't know we have this, I'm sure his guards aren't down. We need to get out of here."
"No, I don't want to leave. I want my revenge." Daphne stood up with tears in her eyes.
