Chapter 15 - A Tough Decision

Lily sat down next to her mother's bed, and she took her hand. "How are you feeling, Mom?" she asked, her voice full of concern.

"I'm doing well, dear," her mother said, patting Lily's hand. "The doctors say I'm making good progress. I'm just glad to have you here with me."

Lily smiled, and she leaned in to give her mother a hug. "I'm so happy to be here, Mom," she said. "I'm going to be here for you, every step of the way."

And in that moment, Lily knew that and in that moment, Lily knew that she was exactly where she was meant to be. She was there for her mother, and she was there for herself. She had faced her fears and come out stronger on the other side. She was ready for whatever life had in store for her. And she was grateful for the strength and resilience that her mother had taught her.

As they sat there, talking and laughing, Lily felt a sense of peace and contentment that she had never felt before. She was so grateful for her mother, and for the bond that they shared. And as she held her mother's hand, she knew that no matter what happened, they would always be there for each other.

Just then, the door opened and a doctor walked in. "Good morning," he said, smiling at them both. "I have some good news to share with you."

Lily's heart leapt in her chest. "What is it, Doctor?" she asked, her voice full of anticipation.

"Your mother's test results are back, and they're excellent," the doctor said. "She's making remarkable progress, and we think she'll be able to go home soon."

Lily's eyes welled up with tears, and she hugged her mother tightly. "Oh, Mom, I'm so happy!" she said, her voice trembling. "This is the best news we could have hoped for."

Her mother smiled through her own tears. "I know, sweetheart," she said, her voice full of love. "This is a dream come true. I can't wait to go home and be with you again."

The doctor cleared his throat. "There is one more thing," he said. "There are some conditions attached to your mother's release. She'll need someone to stay with her .

The doctor continued, "There are some conditions attached to your mother's release. She'll need someone to stay with her for the first month, to help her with her recovery. I was wondering if you'd be willing to do that, Miss Lily?"

Lily didn't even have to think about it. "Of course I will," she said, without hesitation. "I'd be honored to help my mother in any way I can."

The doctor smiled. "That's wonderful," he said. "I know this will be a big responsibility, but I'm sure you'll be up to the task."

Lily's phone suddenly rang, breaking the silence in the room. She glanced at the screen and saw that it was Chris calling. She answered the phone, and his voice came through the line. "Lily, I need you to come home right away," he said, his voice urgent. "It's an emergency."

Lily's heart raced. "What's going on?" she asked, her voice shaking.

"It's hard to explain," Chris said. "Just please, come home as soon as you can."

Lily's mind raced, trying to think of what could be so urgent.

Lily tried to explain to Chris that she couldn't leave her mother's side, but he wouldn't hear it. "No, you need to come home right now," he said, his voice rising in frustration. "I've sent someone to pick you up. Just pack a bag and be ready to go when they arrive."

Lily's hands were shaking. "Chris, I can't just leave my mother like this," she said, her voice rising to match his. "She needs me here."

But Chris wasn't backing down. "I'm sorry, but this is more important," he said, his tone brooding. "I can't tell you any more right now, but I promise I'll explain everything when you get here. Please, just trust me."

Lily was torn. She knew that she couldn't just abandon her mother, but Chris sounded so desperate. And the unknown was gnawing at her, making her anxious. "I... I'll be there as soon as I can," she said, her voice trembling. "Just please, tell me what's going on."

"I can't right now," Chris said, and the line went dead.

As Lily sat there, her phone pressed to her ear, she heard the sound of a car pulling up outside. She looked out the window and saw a black sedan parked in front of the house. Two large men got out of the car, and she recognized them as the bodyguards that Chris had hired a few months ago. She felt a knot of fear in her stomach.

The two men approached the front door, and one of them rang the bell. Lily's heart was racing as she went to answer it. As she opened the door, the two men pushed their way inside. "Ms. Lily, you're coming with "Ms. Lily, you're coming with us," one of the men said, his voice firm. "Mr. Chris has asked us to escort you home, and we're going to do that."

Lily's mind was racing. She didn't know what to do. "I can't just leave my mother," she said, her voice shaking. "She needs me."

But the men were not budging. "I'm sorry, but we have our orders," the other man said. "We're not leaving without you."

Lily felt like her world was spinning out of control. She didn't know what to do. If she went with the men, she would be abandoning her mother. But if she refused, she didn't know what they would do. She felt trapped, like there was no way out.

"Please," she said, her voice breaking. "Please, just give me a few minutes to talk to my mother. I need to explain to her what's happening."

The men looked at each other, and then the first one nodded. "Okay," he said. "We'll wait outside while you talk to your mother. But then we're taking you back to Mr. Chris".
