Chereads / Her Only Hope / Chapter 10 - : Contract Of Lies

Chapter 10 - : Contract Of Lies

"In addition to the rules about public and private behavior, there will also be rules about finances. The parties will share living expenses, such as rent and utilities. However, they will maintain separate bank accounts and will not be responsible for each other's debts. They will also not have any joint ownership of property or assets."

Lily gulped and Chris continued reading, "Okay, great. Now, let's talk about the consequences for breaking the contract. If either party breaks any of the rules or terms of the contract, there will be financial penalties. The exact penalties will be outlined in the contract, but they may include things like a fine or loss of assets."

Lily was lost for words at the content of the contract.

She took a deep breath and tried to clear her mind. She thought about her mother, who was depending on her to get the money she needed for treatment. She thought about herself, and how she wanted to be able to live her life on her own terms. She thought about the contract, and how she didn't want to be bound by its terms. And then, she thought about Chris.

She looked at him, and for the first time, she saw him not as a powerful and intimidating man, but as a person who was just as scared and vulnerable as she was.

As Lily nodded, she felt a sense of relief. She had made a decision, and now she just had to live with the consequences. She knew that this wasn't going to be easy, but she felt like she could handle it. She was strong, and she would get through this.

"I understand," Chris said, his voice gentle. "I'll make sure that we both get what we need from this arrangement."

Sometimes, the reasons behind someone's actions are not as important as the actions themselves. Lily had made her decision, and now she just had to focus on the task at hand.

She looked at Chris again, and he gave her a small smile. "Let's just focus on what we need to do," he said. "We can worry about the rest later."

Lily nodded, and for the first time, she felt a glimmer of hope.

As Lily lay on the bed, she felt a sense of exhaustion wash over her. It had been a long day, and she was ready to sleep. But as she closed her eyes, she felt a sense of peace. For the first time in a long time, she felt like she could relax. She didn't know what the future held, but for now, she would just focus on getting a good night's rest.

As she drifted off to sleep, she wondered what the next day would bring. But for now, she would just rest and let the world take care of itself.

Meanwhile, Chris was having his own struggles. He picked up the phone and dialed his mother's number. He took a deep breath, knowing that this conversation was not going to be easy.

"Hello, Mother," he said, trying to sound cheerful. "How are you doing?"

His mother's voice was cold and dismissive. "Christopher, what do you want?"

"I have some good news," Chris said, trying to sound upbeat. "Lily has agreed to marry me."

There was a long pause on the other end of the line. When his mother finally spoke, her voice was full of disbelief. "Are you sure?" she asked. "Are you sure you're not being played?"

Chris felt a wave of irritation wash over him. "I'm not being played," he said, his voice tight. "I know what I'm doing."

"I'm just worried about you, dear," his mother said, her voice full of concern. "I don't want you to get taken advantage of. She could be after your money, you know."

Chris sighed. "Mother, you don't know anything about Lily," he said. "You can't make assumptions about her without even meeting her."

"I'm just looking out for you, dear," his mother said. "I don't want to see you get hurt."

"I'm not going to lie to you, Mother," Chris said, his voice weary. "But I also don't want to tell you everything. It's not an easy story to tell."

"I can handle it," his mother said, her tone firm. "I just want to understand what's going on."

Chris sighed again. "I'll tell you as much as I can," he said, "but please don't judge me. I'm doing the best I can."

His mother was silent for a moment. "Alright, dear," she said, her voice softer now. "I won't judge"

Chris took a deep breath and began to tell his mother the whole story. He told her about how he had met Lily, and how he had fallen in love with her. He told her about how he had tried to convince her to marry him, and how she had refused. And then, he told her about the deal he had made with her - a deal that he now regretted.

As he spoke, he could hear his mother's silence on the other end of the line. When he had finished, there was a long pause.

"Oh, Christopher," his mother said, her voice full of compassion."I'm so sorry you're going through this," his mother said, her voice full of concern. "It must be so difficult for you. But I want you to know that I'm here for you, no matter what. You can always come to me, and I'll always listen."

Chris felt a surge of gratitude for his mother's words. "Thank you, Mother," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "I really appreciate your support."

His mother's voice was gentle. "You're welcome, dear," she said. "I just want you to know that you're not alone"

As Chris hung up the phone, he felt a wave of guilt wash over him. He had lied to his mother, and he knew it. He had left out the most important part of the story - the part where he had blackmailed Lily into marrying him.
