Chris' POV
I rushed towards Lily, dropping to my knees beside her as I cradled her head in my hands. Her skin was damp and cold, her lips pale and colourless.
"Lily, please wake up," I pleaded, my voice trembling with desperation.
But Lily did not stir, her body limp in my arms. I felt her pulse, a faint vibration beneath my fingertips and immediately I wrapped my arms around her, holding her close.
The house was silent, the world outside seemed to have stopped, the only sound I heard was the soft breathing of the woman in my arms. I stroked her hair, the silkiness of her locks like a lotion for my soul. Was I in love with his woman? No. I was only doing all of this for the marriage to work. I didn't love her, I couldn't love anyone. I scooped Lily into my arms and carried her out of the bathroom, her body light as a feather in my arms.
