Chapter 9 - Fazed By An Unknown Monster

"What the heck is that?!" he exclaimed, quivering and sweating in position.

He submerged fully into fear upon seeing the dreaded beast that stood before his very eyes.

He slowly moved his gaze downwards, and he saw the raggedy, worn-out skin the creature wore. It put on a sad look; its eyes as though they were about to descend.

Ambivalence drowned Levi, as pity for the creature slowly approached Levi's mind. But, alas, its destroyed, degraded, sad, and tired look was only a facade covering its inner appearance.

The mask it wore was only a trick. A carefully executed trick to win the hearts of any weak opponent.

The demon, in its still state, still radiated eerie chills, regardless of its pitiful state. That alone, transformed Levi into a brutal person.

"I can't fall for such a monstrosity as such. Rather, I shall kill it holding back no strength," he muttered, although inaudible to others.

He hopped to his side, evading the demon that seemed to embrace him. Suddenly, his eyes were flooded with a mix of colours, he was immediately aroused by the odd sound the creature produced.

Hgrhh!!

The strange sounds echoed continuously, frightening Levi as he was stuck with the demon in the small confinement.

Its height was roughly the same as the elevator, standing as tall as 6-7 feet. Just, seeing the size of its shadow instilled an immeasurable fear.

At the moment Levi fell to the ground, dipped in fear, he deduced that the demon-possessed greater strength than all he had fought.

As his eyelids clung to each other he thought, "System, where are you?" he asked, "Won't I get any information?"

A few seconds in the elevator, he felt a touch on his body. He sprung up, afraid of the demon, ran, and clung to a wall.

He wished that he could escape, but he was powerless in this case.

He continued staring at the oddly sized creature that stared lifeless back at him. It approached Levi, with a staggering gait as though it would trip with every step.

Levi took the opportunity, grabbed onto the creature's deformed scales that stretched like skin and paced in the opposite direction - the exit.

As his body made its way outside the elevator, he sighted a strangely long leg in front of him. It was the demon's leg.

The legs retracted, and expanded with full force. A circle of dust formed around the area of impact, and with Levi's abdomen compressed, he flew to a wall in the large room.

The only occurrence that proved beneficial after the strong kick, was that he landed on a light switch. The lights turned on, and he could not see any other demon.

"I'm lucky, but doesn't this demon count as one demon?" He asked while still on the ground, "Then I'll have to check other floors?"

He flipped his body up, grabbing a stick and utilizing it strangely - as a sword.

The heavy broad piece of wood that descended from above was swung effortlessly by Levi. He placed his hands at its edge, swung it to his left, and pa,ced towards the demon.

It stood still, maliciousness raging in its eyes. As it saw Levi pacing towards it, locomotion of its legs commenced. They moved as though they were parts of a robot.

It had no hair but half-shredded skin on its head extended, creating a strange image of hair.

Levi was still pacing in an attempt to close his distance with the demon as it matched eloquently towards him.

An inevitable outcome waited patiently, to be revealed in the aftermath. Levi knew his inescapable fate. One that posed imminent harm to him. He was unsure he would escape alive.

All those fears failed to make his resolve waver.

He ran with even more speed, raging and screaming with every passing second. His resolve and confidence shone through the room easily felt by all its inhabitants.

The demon noticed his burning goal to eradicate it, but although it couldn't utter words, Levi could hear a cold voice.

"Eternal chill...."

He heard a whisper, ominous and malevolent. He declined while loosening his grip as the large piece of wood descended heavily, echoing a loud thud.

Suddenly, his arms and legs shivered due to an eerie chill that surrounded and enveloped the entire room if not the building. As his teeth jittered, he looked towards the demon who froze in place.

"No, no! It couldn't be! It can't be the demon's words," he thought.

His knowledge abilities made him frightened as it would infinitely boost the demon's powers.

"If that was the demon's ability, then I have only witnessed an ounce of its full power."

Levi quickly grabbed the wood and shielded himself with it. At the moment its wide edges shielded him, he felt a sudden shock in his arms.

His eyes saw the plank, as heavy and dense as it was, split into two, and at its heart were the retched feet of the demon.

At the sight of the repulsive, shed, and frightening part known as its foot, Levi sprung up, away from the demon, and sought shelter at a corner.

From there, he stared at the demon filled with fear and cold, his heart pounding endlessly.

Levi was still baffled at the sudden surge of cold winds on the floor, and most especially, the malevolent whisper he heard. His mind was lost in a sea of thoughts as to the source of such words.

Only the demon was present, being the only possible source but Levi failed to believe that the demon uttered such words. Mostly because he feared the capabilities of the demon if it could command such eerie chills in the atmosphere.

He sunk in the soft embrace of the expiring walls of the building, as he readily embraced his fate. Although he knew his fight was a mismatch with the demon as the advantageous entity, he dared not surrender to the demon's powers.
