Ken paced back and forth in the hospital waiting room, his heart heavy with dread. Every passing minute felt like an eternity as he waited for news of his father's condition.
Finally, the door to the waiting room opened, and a weary-looking doctor approached them. Ken's stomach twisted into knots as he braced himself for the worst.
"Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, I'm afraid I have some difficult news," the doctor began, his voice gentle but grave. "Your husband's injuries are extremely severe, and there are complications that we didn't anticipate."
Ken felt his heart drop at the doctor's words, a cold shiver running down his spine. "W-What do you mean? Is he going to be okay?"
The doctor sighed, his expression sympathetic. "I'm afraid not, son. Due to the extent of his injuries and complications from smoke inhalation, your father's condition is critical. We've done everything we can, but I'm afraid there's nothing more we can do."
Ken felt the world spin around him as the reality of the situation sank in. His father, the pillar of their family, was fighting for his life, and there was nothing they could do to save him.
"But... but he's going to be okay, right?" Ken choked out, his voice trembling with emotion.
The doctor shook his head sadly. "I'm sorry, but given his current condition, I'm afraid he only has a few hours left. I suggest you spend as much time with him as you can."
Tears welled up in Ken's eyes as he struggled to process the devastating news. His father, the man who had always been there for him, was slipping away, and there was nothing he could do to stop it.
As they made their way to his father's room, Ken's mind raced with memories of happier times—family dinners, weekend outings, and late-night talks. He couldn't bear the thought of losing his father, of facing a future without him by his side.
When they reached his father's bedside, Ken's heart broke at the sight of him lying there, pale and frail, hooked up to various machines. He reached out and took his father's hand, holding it tightly as tears streamed down his cheeks.
"Dad, please don't leave us," Ken whispered, his voice choked with emotion. "We need you. I need you."
But as he looked into his father's eyes, clouded with pain and uncertainty, Ken knew that their time together was running out. And as he watched helplessly, he realized that sometimes, even the strongest bonds of love and family were powerless in the face of fate's cruel hand.
